I'm not sure, given I'm not really doing much right at the moment, I'm simply putting it up for discussion.

I have no opinion either way as I'm not a trained professional.

"I've contemplated if I'd be better splitting like that" that is, I've thought about whether this is a "generally" good thing to do or not.

Ultimately what matters most is probably effort, but I'd rather hear that from someone who has the experience to make a comment .

Personally I've found the 3 day split to be the best. Easy to keep track of progress, and hits every group well. Obviously it's no bodybuilding routine, since the goals with such routines are aesthetics rather than strength and functionality...however if you're eating well and pushing every session, you'll get great results indefinitely.

While I was eating stupid amounts I was doing either 3 on 1 off, or just push/pull/legs/repeat until I felt I NEEDED a rest day. Think I went just a touch over 2 weeks without needing a day off haha

There's no perfect program. You're there to damage muscles as much or more than you did last time, so you can rebuild them stronger with food and sleep. Damage hard and don't think too hard about it.

got told off for doing pendlay rows today (with bumper plates), apparently I have to not have the weights hit the floor. Surprised I didn't get told the same thing for deadlifting.

135kgx10 squats were not a problem incidentally Birds, good suggestion, I'll do that for a week and then try 125x20x2 again. Did my first unassisted dips as well, so it's all progressing quite well.

Well done man! Why not try and build the 135 up a rep each session? Go for 11 reps next time. You'll have 135 for 20 x 2 in a month :)

Or try for 137.5 x 10...

Hundred ways to do it, as long as the intensity goes up :)

Interesting to be is the part about push/pull/legs.

I've always done full bodies 3x weekly (well not lately but usually) but I've contemplated if I'd be better splitting like that.

For anyone else who does that sort of split, what sort of exercises are you doing to fill an hour?

Before leg and back issues I was doing, squat, bench, DL, bent rows, weighted chins, weighted dips in that order.

Pretty much how my workout has always been structured. I fill in an hour easily. It takes me 30-40mins to complete first movement.

Dude at gym asks me how to improve his deadlift; says he's on a bit of a plateau. I watch him and he pulls 8 reps of 80kg, with perfect form...couldn't fault it. I ask him what the most he's ever pulled on deads is. He says about 100kg for one rep, back in the day...in a tone like it would be in his dreams these days.

I told him to take his gloves off, put some chalk on his hands in the other room and come back. He comes back and I've loaded 30kg extra on the bar for 110. Says he can't do that. I said yes you can. He locks it out with ease and I tell him to do another 2 reps. I said there goes your plateau. Do 115 next session.

And that's how it is...everyday...all over the world

Alrighty peeps, as a few of you may know I'm looking to buy all my own shit very soon. After asking around a little, I'm currently looking at the following shite:

"Complete" setup (thanks Dan):

http://www.cyber-market.com.au/cyberfit-power-rack-180kg-olympic-weight-flatincline-bench-p-592.html

I'm ever so slightly sceptical on the potential quality of the bar in this package given the price, as well as worried the plates aren't a large enough diameter (hence bar will be closer to the ground for deadlifts). If anyone thinks either of these worries are justified, I'd be looking to get just the bench and cage from that package then purchasing bar and weights separately - for example::

http://www.ironedge.com.au/store/weightlifting-bumper-plate-pack.html

Thoughts on this gear? Obviously the IronEdge shit in the second link is definitely good quality stuff, I'm more just concerned about whether the weights in the complete setup are acceptable.

Fanks :)

Before I get flamed, I posted that as being a bit better than the equipment I bought, I'm not saying it's the best or what should be purchased, just that it appears better than what I bought and I'd buy that second time round rather than what I got.

I'm sure there are much better setups out there and in this thread you always have to put a caveat on everything.

^^^ LOL of course Dan! Though you're right, definitely need to put disclaimers left right and centre in here :P

That being said, the quality of the rack and bench actually look to be quite good. I know I've seen some half decent gym setups here in Canberra using those exact same benches (so I'd also assume they were using the rack too), and for my level this stuff is well good enough.

Like I said though, bar quality and plate sizes are the only concerns at all - and even then I know they'd be fine, I'm just pedantic :)

Looks pretty good to me. It's home use, you don't need OTT.

I wouldn't worry about the weights, who cares, weight is weight. If the bar that comes with it starts bending buy a better quality one.

You don't need bumper plates.

lol gotta be more careful than a politician in a brothel here

Oh, I know I don't need OTT gear lol....just going with the "do it once, do it right" ideology :P bar definitely won't bend from what I can tell, especially with as much as I'll ever have on it - they loaded the fark out of it in the pics to demonstrate the sturdiness of the cage lol

So it seems nobody has any reasons NOT to go with that complete setup? If that's the case, I may very well go with it.

    • That is a lovely Volvo, just saying. Yes I should have got an 260RS when they were cheap. I do regret now.
    • ^ lots of good points made above. The thing is, "aggressive" or "flush" fitment is relative depending on how much you have been influenced by social media. My starting point is always "look at the Nismo RWD specs". That is where you should start, then start measuring as GTSBoy as sort of mentioned, because every car will be slightly different. My 8.5"+35/9.5+38 will not be "flush" enough for you because you want more "pumped" look, which is why you measure. Tyre sizes and brand/models also make a difference. Some tyres are more chunky/square, some are more rounded. That means you could get away with more aggressive offsets without rubbing. But then it also depends on your ride height. Also depends on how much your car copped damage before being shipped from Japan. So it goes back to measuring your car yourself and determining what can work. Those Nismo specs are used bacause it's a safe spec for standard car (suspension. body) with chunky tyres. But then I put 265/35 wide tyres on R34 GT-R wheels, and currently run 285/30 tyres on 18x10 wheels.
    • Sounds pretty awesome. I recommend creating a new build thread and posting all your goodness in there.
    • +1 for Jesse Streeter. Over the years I have got a bunch of stuff from him (usually wheels, but other parts like aftermarket braces and coolers). He was very good with shipping things to Australia. He may be able to send to other countries.
