my r32 has hicas (they all do, shit boxes :( ) and i hate it and need it gone. im yet to order a lock bar. the thing is i dont just want to lock it, i want to completely remove it, i weighed my car and it weighed like 1356Kg(full st trim with alot about 1/2 tank petrol), it needs to loose some weight, plus i hate having useless shit in it.

theres this article http://www.nissansilvia.com/forums/index.p...howtopic=185697 on how to remove it, and it looks abit technical, now dont get me wrong i love doing shit myself, but this might be something i just wont beable to do. so if anyone that knows what there doing and is willing to help me remove it, i would love it. or should i just take it to a workshop to do it???

so if you know what your doing, and you wana help a brother out, please let me know.

or if someone can let me know of a good workshop that would do it for me for cheap, as im a poor kent.

even when its completely ripped out you still need a lock bar in there.

i got a NV NO1(like in my sig) Lock bar bout $85 delivered at the time

got it installed by Wholesale Suspension in Blacktown.

mine was the first one they did they said it was TOO easy cost about $70 but i did get in installed along with alot of suspension components.

Yes they ripped all the lines out and re-routed the power steering pump(i believe it was)i just printed out the tutorial i found through NV NO1's for sale thread and gave it to the workshop.

Either way its recomended you get a 4wheel alignment after installing,so might aswell let the workshop do it.

i read in total its about 25kg, i didn't weigh it,but it looks about that.

thanks so much FATAZZ, i called a place up already and i got quoted 450$ just for labour, but if its only 70$ for hicas removed thats the way ill go.

yea i know you still need a lock bar even if you want to completely remove it. i just dont want to just lock it, i want to make sure the workshop completely removes it, doesnt leave no solenoid or anything, and redirects the powersteering fluid properly so it dont overheat and so the steering doesnt get heavy. did you buy the removal kit aswell? or just the lock bar?

You are getting a bit mixed up. A few of pointers.

The HICAS system starts at the solenoids etc that sit on the chassis rail next to the motor - near the oil filter. This is a heavy lump of sh!t that is actually tricky to remove.

Just removing the actual rear steering rack & replacing it with the lock bar is pretty easy. If you only do this you can just loop the oil lines.

If you remove the front solenoids etc then you can remove the rear section of the power steering pump. This will help keep the fluid cool. The other thing to do at this stage is to spend a little money on a proper cooler for the fluid. Nissans finned tube sucks badly.

oh ok ^^^ thanks alot for clearing that up.

because while im calling around i hear a few different things. one guy said its going to over heat and needs a new pump.... etc... others have said that they will take it out and redirect it so it doesnt even go through the rear pump as they take it out :laugh: .

called blacktown suspension wholesales and got quoted 250$ cheapest so far and they being suspension people i think it might be wisest to take it to them, i think its to much for me to do.

anyone wana give me courage :(

u can also just disconnect hicas on R32's pretty easily.

there's a plug on the left hand side of the engine bay near the bottom/middle of the wheel arch

i want to remove hicas so its more predictable, if i do what you say i should do, how much more predictable would it be :( lol hahahaha.

it was about 6months ago now i had it done,cant remember every bit.but i did print out the tutorial(with pics) and left it with the bloke at wholesale(blacktown) Ask him exactly what he removes and see if your happy with that.

mines the version where my dash hicas light stays on.you can simply remove the bulb but it doesnt faze me.

i havent had 1 over heating problem.Steering is perfect.

Nope,i just got the bar.

Edit: No more feeling like a forklift around round-a-bouts lol. Saying that it does tend to slip out abit easier.

I would rather get it done at a suspension place as youll need a 4wheel alignment straight away.

Does tha $250 include wheel alignment? check it out.

nah it doesnt include awheel alignment, but thats ok because my cousin owns a tyre shop so ill just get him to do it. plus i can tell him how i want it and he'll fix it.

the ~250$ is simply labour, i have to supply everything. i told them that its just the lock bar i will supply and they were ok with that.

the other thing is, is that im not sure what components are in the hicas system for an r32 gtst.

can someone send me a list or write me a list of whats in the hicas system for a 1992 r32 gtst skyline? so i dont get ripped and they leave something behind.

If you love having a go, you'll love the feeling having all the gear out on the floor. I vote you do it yourself. It’s shite easy. The hardest bit, as above, is removing sometimes dicky rod ends and adjusting them to the correct length to fit the lock bar back in.

A list? Hrrm…

- Solenoids

- Lines

- Rear hydraulic rack

If you do take it somewhere else, just ramble off that you have a mechanic mate that’s sticking all the gear in his XYZ Nissan, as his car was damaged in a crash; they aren’t going to steal your gear if you have a mate that knows what’s required ;)

i was thinking of giving it ago the other day, but i was looking under it when i got my exhaust fitted and it looked like a big job, not so much taking it out, but looping the lines at the front.

after some harder driving, i thought i may keep it for longer then i 1st expected.

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed 
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
