Changed the O2 Sensor after finding Code 33 after the paper clip short trick! Used the EL Falcon one as promoted so widely on these forum. A friend has also just done this and had no issues.

Had to slice and crimp wires to use Standard plug. All wires were same colour so just hooked up white/white, black/black and white white. Ran a little worse initially and so I pulled the paper clip out and the code (33) is still flashing!!!

Is there anything else I am supposed to do? I've scanned through the (25 page!) sticky but don't know if I have done something wrong... Some posts have suggested resetting the ECU but I thought the paper clip short did that upon restart anyway!!! I don't really want to disconnect the battery and stomp on the brake pedal etc etc as I have my hks ebc and Apexi RSM set up nicely!!!

Please, ideas! Thanks in advance!

Have you checked the code again since you reset the ECU, as it might be an error leftover in the memory from before you changed the sensor. Reset it again and see.

Also, if u start the car immediately after resetting it without turning off ignition, it will go into O2 sensor mode, flashing the checklight on and off, depending on lean or rich, cant remember which way, but you will quickly see if its working when you drive it, after it has warmed up.

note, the pic is of an R34 terminal, S2 stagea is upside down in comparison.

If the paper clip shorting out trick resets the ECU then I have already reset it, if it doesn't then I may have to do the battery disconnect thing!?! It felt the worst immediately on the 10 minute run hone after checking for codes in the fuse box! Seemed to run smoother and boost cleaner in the next 20 minute run into town...

I'll go out to the car now and check for codes again!

OK! So I just checked for codes again and it is flashing 55... which, from memory, means there are no errors!?! So it should be A.O.K??? Is that what the 5 long flashes and 5 short ones means???

I hope so! Shame the kids are asleep or I could go for a spin and check for sure!

sounds sweet, 55 is all good, check it again after a few days of driving, but the Bosch EL was the way to go, done it myself.

Like I said, it will store the fault code indefinitely until the ECU is reset, which might be months or years for some cars, even though the fault was fixed long ago.

Thanks heaps Chook! Is it still worth doing that Heated Oxygen Sensor Monitor test? Or do you think that will just reveal the typically rich ECU standard pattern???

it should alternate when you are under load/off throttle, even cruising, not that useful and not really sure of the purpose, suppose it just lets you know that its reading.

Then it's NOT AN O2 SENSOR PROBLEM!

Any monitor will only alternate rich - lean - rich under static throttle conditions, ie cruise. It will simply go RICH under load / accelleration, and ultra lean under off-throttle.

    • Welcome to Skyline ownership. Yes, it is entirely possible parts websites get things wrong. There's a whole world of inaccuracies out there when it comes to R34 stuff (and probably 33 and 32). Lots of things that are 'just bolt on, entirely interchangable' aren't. Even between S1 and S2 R34's. Yes they have a GTT item supposedly being 296mm. This is incorrect. I would call whoever you got them from and return them and let them know the GTT actually uses 310mm rotors. Depending on where you got them from your experience and success will obviously vary.
    • Hi...a bit a "development" on the brakes. I spoke to the guys where i get brakes from...and they are saying that 296mm EBC are for R34 GT-T. I then went to their site: https://www.ebcbrakes.com/vehicle/uk-row/NISSAN/Skyline (R34)/ and search for my car(R34 GT 1998 - it has GTT brakes) and it show me this USR1229 number and they are rly 296mm rotors... So now iam rly confused... The rotors i have now on the car are 310mm asi shown... So where is the problem? Does the whole EBC got it wrong or my calipers are just...idk know what?

    • This is a recipe for disaster* Note: Disaster is relative. The thing that often gets lost in threads like this is what is considered acceptable poke and compromise between what one person considers 'good' looks and what someone else does. The quoted specs would sit absurdly outside the guards with the spacers mentioned and need  REALLY thin tyres and a LOT of camber AND rolling the guards to fit. Some people love this. Some people consider this a ruined car. One thing is for certain though, rolling the guards is pretty much mandatory for any 'good' fitment (of either variety). It is often the difference between any fitment remotely close to the guards. "Not to mention the rears were like a mm from hitting the coilovers." I have a question though - This spec is VERY close to what I was planning to buy relative to the inboard suspension - I have an offset measuring tool on the way to confirm it. When you say "like a mm" do you mean literally 1mm? Or 2mm? Cause that's enough clearance for me in the rear :p I actually found the more limiting factor ISNT the coilover but the actual suspension arms. Did you take a look at how close those were?
