Yes it does. Depending on the track and dyno, I've got an pretty damn good "hit rate" on predicting ETs and trap speeds here. You guys just have weird reading dynos :ninja:

You guys use the Hub Dyno's... not the rollers :(

Not exactly, considering a stock turbo R33 will max push 200rwkw, and you can easily run 106-107mph with this power. I say the dyno is high or the driver is shit.

How does the MPH in the quarter mile compare to the RWKW (or AWKW) figure? Is that what your comparing?

Or are you looking at the MPH on the dyno?

I mean, if you got a really bad launch then wouldn't you not reach the same MPH?

Although it's not 100% accurate, there is enough data logged from drag racers all over the world in various types of race machinery to make a pretty bloody good estimate of power when you know the weight of the car and the terminal speed in mph. In general, it would take about 320hp (at the flywheel) to propel a car weighing as much as an ordinary R33 gtst to 106-107mph. That usually equates to about the 250-260hp at the wheels or about 190-200kW.

A bad launch will always result in a slower elapsed time but will sometimes improve the terminal speed. Don't ask me why because I haven't been able to get a definitive answer yet.

I have no idea how you guys get those kinds of times, but they sound extremely unrealistic most places. I reckon a high 13 at ~103mph with 190-195rwkw and maybe a low 13 with MickyT drag radials would be a decent target with a decent driver etc in any tracks/dynos I have come to know.

1.81 60ft on shitty road tires just messes with my head - I have no idea what you did there. Are you running 90:10s etc?

What you reckon is basically attached to being unable to drive a faily slow car off the line at the drag strip.

Ask him (2rismo) how to drive a car off the line, actually go to the drags and talk to people who race. They are friendly and believe me getting a 8 second car off the line and down the track safely and worse trying to run in a bracket involves far more skill than the slow 12/13 second cars lots of guy punt around in. They will point you in the right direction in no time. Then you just practice what you get told. It's instant improvement.

I was at the drags a few weeks back not racing and talked to a couple of young blokes with skylines and helped them both lop half a second off their times with one conversation after they had been running the usual 'forum expected' times all night.

The lessons are usually short and mostly it just involves using the two ears on your head. Biggest problem with guys racing thier street cars is that they talk amongst themselves about how to launch a car, it's a pool of ingorance. And on this forum it's been that way ever since. I remember copping all sorts of flak when I ran 13.8 in a fairly stock gtst on 205's and even more when I ran 13.4 on the same tyres, I seem to recall you gave me some of that flak back then too? :)

Based on non-wanker power numbers

170-ish rwkw is enough for a high 12 in a gtst

190rwkw is an easy 12, simple as that. And proven to boot.

Now why don't people start asking how they can do the same thing?

Your mph says you have an 11 second car there, so the good news is theres plenty of time to lose from your 13.3 :)

For reference, with just the cat back it was only running 93ish mph. Time after time. And the car itself seems very healthy. Has anyone else run around that MPH for the same mod?

I reckon 97mph

I really think your 60ft time is where most people need to concentrate on because I managed 104mph in my r32 but only a 14.3 sec quarter... and i'd estimate the power would have been around 200rwkw mark

EDIT: and your gear changes... 3rd is always a killer.

Nah tested my car then... only hitting .5bar in first. LAME.

Need a quick smart fix to happen before friday... the turbosmart single stage is sitting at home. Might rig that up

Hopefully it can hold the boost abit better, its still gonna drop, but right now im dropping back to stock

(and for those who want to know, right now ive tried to hold the wastegate shut for longer with springs lol)

I will be running Federal super steel 255/17s for these runs on friday, hopefully i can pull my 60ft down to close to 2

Any launch tips 2rismo?

Any idea how long you ride the clutch for in seconds off the line? how many revs do you launch from. im thinking around 4000rpm

yeah hook that up. wouldnt take much to do. or goto autobarn and get a 50$ GFB bleed valve lol....works for the pig granthem.

lol the silvia didnt hold boost. It would peak at like 17 then just start the downward spiral lol

yeah but like i said, it was coz the bleed valve itself was f'd... and probably the turbo hahaha.

when i first bought it it held quite well. especially between 7-12psi.. i reckon visit my link and do it proper.

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year. 
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
