that's actually a breach of contract and legally they have to honor it. they have verbaly given you approval without mentioning that condition and certanly if you have signed it then they have no choice but to honour it. I'd go to a manager or supervisor, the mistake was there's = there's problem. Hint at legal action as you have already covered certain expenses etc, think you'll find that they may come around. either way, you now have nothig to loose. Go Insurance Companies YAY!

rac has become full on nazi's recently . screw them . hbf came up with a quote almost half their price for insurance anyway so I have dumped them for everything .

IMO securing the loan with your car is dodgy , who is to say what the finance company may or may not do in the future at their whim . If you can its definetly worth the extra deposit/rate to have an unsecured loan .

If you have to get a domestic car , what about a 200sx . closest you will get to a domestic skyline , apart from a aus delivered r32 gtr . wrx is a bit dodgy , I have seen too many with chronic gearbox problems and modification seems to be quite expensive for the performance gains you get from them . Plus they handle like a front wheel drive with way to much understeer .

I was going to change my car insurance to HBF until I asked them about a front mount intercooler and a boost controller and they said it would void my policy. So after installing these and I had an accident and went and made a claim HBF could turn around and say sorry you voided your insurance when you fitted that stuff. I was already with RAC so I rang them up and checked and they are fine with those modifications. From stories I've heard the only people who are reasonable, when it comes to mods and picking who fixes your car etc is shannon's, but I think you have to be 30+ for them.

rac no longer insure imports . but their modification policy was good . I have spoken to shannons a few times and sometimes they give you a quote and other times they wont , claiming the only insure classics or weekend driven cars . Plus their premiums jump rapidly with each modification .

Dan, They said the same thing to me. They "found" me a VT SS, but if i wanted one, i would get one wouldnt I......

Out of all the stuff that has happened this week (and what a shit week), one thing is clear, RAC DO offer very good deals with certain cars etc. Repayments and interest rates are so much better than anyone else i've spoken to.

I paid over $3000 for insurance when i first got my R33. I was 18 and had 0% no claim. This was through RAC.

It was the cheapest i could get and i really wanted the car, so i can definatly understand people paying that much. If you love the cars and have no other choice...then you gotta pay it. Either that or have an uninsured car OR buy a crap car with no power.

I am now 21 and looking to buy a 89 GTR in the next year or so.... and yeah insurance is gonna be tough to find.

a few catches tho...i got it frm this broker in Vic Pk, Westralian Auto Finance, Steve was the dude and the catch was i had to get my car thru Skippers Performance Centre and the cars there although clean and nice, are friggin expensive.

well the price to pay for an import and needing finance at this age and havin no credit history and being here on a visa...

so he organized everythin, i paid 50% upfront and he orgranized the other 50% financed and i got my insurance and paying 2600 with HBF...pretty happy...SGIO quoted me 4+...

and now drivin away happily servicing the loan

=)

maybe give him a checkout if yr still havin problems

=)

just my 2 cents....

Streamer, sounds good but i ended up sticking with RAC finance and found a nice wrx (in my opinion).

On a side note, Skippers performance pushed to get me finance (and kept hassling for 3 weeks after) but IMHO car dealer finance is bad, VERY BAD.

For Example:

On a $25,000 Skippers car finance deal i would have to pay $120 a week over 5 years HOWEVER at the end i would STILL OWE just under $10,000. Thats the catch with a lot of car dealers. A massive balloon repayment at the end. Interest rates are huge. At first it looks fantastic, but its dodgy as.

With the RAC on a 25K loan, i pay $120 a week and i own the car after 5 years.

Included in that RAC loan are things like income protection and stuff (which bumps the loan up but it adds piece of mind). Skippers said they could offer income protection at an extra $18 a week. After 5 years, thats $4680. Thats a rip off!!

But yeh, im glad everything worked out well for you (and your insurance seems quite good).

How have you found the service from Skippers. They were far to pushy with me (like most car dealers) so im glad i took the risk to buy a car private sale.

Cheers

Mat

    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
