Oh, just got my renewal from LSV. Was very happy with them before ($20k, 786 premium, moderate eccess), got the renewal - $15k value, $1256 premium, $750 excess. Rang them, have a good conversation, basically they are changing directions and not interested much in insuring us anymore.

Oh well, time to shop around.

I just got my renewal from LSV

went from $750 premium $500 excess to

$1798 PREMIUM $500 EXCESS!!!!!!!

for $10k

I have no problem with them going in a new direction.

They should just not offer me a renewal

"we dont insure that type of vehicle anymore, sorry" would have been adequate

they're obviosly trying to get rid of me, why do they have to insult me in the process. douches

:P

Holy shit.

I just got a price for the stag if I add another driver, a 19 year old female to the insurance.

Went from $1400 or whatever to $3500 or so... She did have one minor bingle early this year - I suspect that drove the price up. The premium drops to $2400 if I have a $1700 excess instead of $600. So assuming I didn't claim in the first year then I'd come out ahead with the $1700 excess. She turns 20 in 3 months though so I thought I might wait till then.

i know its a bit old but i added my gf onto my policy and told them that she didn't drive it much and it was only for emergencies - added her on at no extra cost and she's 18

just for reference, justcar - rs4s (they didn't have it in their system but took notes of what it was) valued at 17,500 - ~$1400 a year with pay by the month (would be cheaper for one off lump sum)

just got me wondering if they do glass cover, will check it out and see

yeah justcars didnt have a m35 in their system too they called it a rs4 or something like that too..

i tried to tell them my spec. leather navi and all that and they wouldnt allow it since they said the arx is the only one with leather and navi..

clearly not the case haha.

Interesting, I have also just taken out another policy at $1600 a year, pay by the month. Rs4 at $17.250.

JustCars gave me the best price so far, Shannons wouldn' touch it due to the number of mods I've done.

Agreed value $34,000, premium $600 annually for full comp... it would've been in the 7's though I opted to increase my excess... the figures on that depends on what you're claiming but ranges from $1000-$1400, the only thing I didn't like about the policy was no windscreen cover, not even optional.

bugger, i was gonna call up and ask about that cos i've got a few chips from driving to tas :D

may still call up and complain that they are underwritten by aami and they offer it

They will beat it. . . but not Kill it. . .

Mine with Shannons is $1535, Sydney, rating 1, over 35+ . . I am on month to month until I find a cheaper one. .

^ same. I'm with Shannons and over 25 and my insurance is $1200. I did an online quote with Just Cars and it came to $835. I rang them to check if the online quote was accurate and the guy went over everything I'd ticked etc and said it was all cool - they just heavily discount it if you do it on the net. It will always cost more over the phone even if the details are exactly the same.

I asked Shannons why my insurance went up from $886 to $1200 in 6 months and they said that Stageas are considered high risk vehicles....

'they said that Stageas are considered high risk vehicles....'

I was fed a similar line when I asked about the increase, something like: "Import turbo Nissans are a high risk category". Seems like a very silly generalisation to make.

I wonder how many Stags are written off (On a percentile basis) in comparison to Silvias, 180s, Skylines, which are RWD turbo 'sports cars', as opposed to AWD turbo 'touring wagons'.

perhaps it is more to do with how many are written of V's how many are insured?

That is the difficulty of owning an unusual (less volume) car like the Stagea.

I have certainly read about a few C34 and a few M35 that have turned up at the auctions as insurance write offs.

I once rang Famous Classics and they told me "sorry, we will not ensure Stageas because they are high risk vehicles." then she goes on to say "we insure many imports like SUPRAS"... as if a Stag is less risk than a Supra.... I'm sure a Supra would be much easier to write off...

:) thats what i said here:

I still think, per capita, that stags would be less written off less often. It's not infallible, but compare the amount of wrecks in each forum classifieds, we have 4 a year, they have 4 a fortnight :P

I could just be throwing a tanty though :P

    • I appreciate the detailed explanation, think I understand now. I spent the better part of last night reading what I could about shuffle and potential solutions. I had replaced the OEM twin turbo pipe with an alternate Y pipe that is separated further away from the turbo. The current one is from HKS and I had a previous pipe that was separated even further away, both have shuffle. I had heard that a divider can be welded in to the OEM pipe to remove turbulence, and figure that aftermarket pipes that are more separated would achieve the same thing. From what I read, most people with -10 turbos get shuffle due to their size, though it's a bit less common with -5s on a standard RB26. I think Nismoid mentioned somewhere it's because OEM recirculation piping is common in Australia with -5 cars. It seems that the recommendation tends to vary between a few options, which I've ordered in what I think is most feasible for me:  1. Retune the MAP or boost controller to try to eliminate shuffle 2. Install OEM recirculation piping 3. Something called a 'balance pipe' welded onto the exhaust manifolds. I don't know if kits for this are available, seems like pure fabrication work 4. simply go single turbo My current layout is as follows: Garrett 2860 -5s HKS Racing Suction intake MAF delete pipes HKS racing chamber intake piping hard intercooler piping,  ARC intercooler HKS SSQV BOV and pipe Haltech 2500 elite ECU and boost solenoid/controller HPI dump pipes OEM exhaust manifolds HKS VCAM step 1 and supporting head modifications Built 2.6 bottom end All OEM recirculation piping was removed, relevant areas sealed off I'll keep an eye out for any alternative solutions but can get started with this.  Only other question is, does shuffle harm the turbo (or anything else)? It seems like some people say your turbo shafts will explode because of the opposing forces after a while and others say they just live with it and adjust their pedal foot accordingly.
    • That worked out PERFECTLY! Thank you big time to JJ. He was able to swap me his stock diff. He drove all the way to me as well. Killer! Removal & install was pretty straightforward. The diff itself is HEAVY. So that’s a 2 man job.  Man does the car drive nice now! Couldn’t have worked out any better 👌
