hey guys..

the previous owner decided to take the steering wheel off and put a boss kit, only to realise theres a different one for air bagged equiped cars (?)

anywayz he didnt end up doing it and just put the stock one back, which is a good idea lol but he said ever since his put it back, the horn doesnt work, and the airbag light is always on in the dash.

i think maybe his done somthing wrong with the wiring, so i wanna give it ago and try sort it out this afternoon.

any advice? whats the best way to remove it? also is there a seperate clip that connects to the horn and a different one for the airbag...obviously his mis matched the cables.

thanks

Haha, I did this just last night :(

apparently, once you disconnect the airbag, you need to reset the abs or computer or some junk*... try that first... I'm up to having the airbag light on also, haven't tested the horns...

As for getting it off, you are going to need a special piece of equipment... You need a T10 anti tamper torx screw... Took me ages to find one after asking mates and a few shops I go to...

Hopefully when I change the battery and reset the ecu, it will fix the error code comping up for the airbag...

*This is only if you have power on... I was listening to the radio while doing it, not super smart now that I think about it...

Well that's the whole reason I was going to swap mine... the weight at the top had broken off and was jiggling around and sometimes connecting the horn and setting it off...

I pissed that weight off, but I don't know how much fun it will be driving an even more uneven steering wheel...

Where abouts in Sydney are you?

the horn isnt my main conern right now, but while the wheel is off might aswell check that and airbag connections

from sutherland shire

is there an air bag reset that can be done, before i start pulling things apart?

Yeah there sorta is, but I don't know what it is exactly... it's some code, like you have to turn your key to ACC, then press the door button in the door sill 10 times in 10 seconds or something like that...

Do a search, it's probably here somewhere :(

THIS IS HOW TO RESET THE AIRBAG COMPUTER

First you have to put the system into the diagnostic mode. Here's how to do this:

From User Mode To Diagnosis Mode:

Diagnosis Mode activates only when a malfunction is detected, by pressing the driver's door switch at least 5 times within 7 seconds after turning the ignition "ON". SRS will not enter Diagnosis Mode if no malfunction is detected.

From Diagnosis Mode to User Mode:

After a malfunction is repaired, switch the ignition "OFF" for at least 1 second , then back "ON". Diagnosis Mode returns to User Mode. If switching Diagnosis Mode to User Mode is required while malfunction is being detected, switch the ignition "OFF", then back "ON" and press the driver's door switch at least 5 times within 7 seconds.

After a malfunction is repaired, return to User Mode from Diagnosis Mode by switching the ignition "OFF" for at least 1 second, then back "ON". At that time, the problem code is cleared

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
