Hi,

As the topic states, i need to know the capacity of an RB25 GTST gearbox. I was told to fill it with Repsol 75/90 fully synthetic oil by my gearbox guy. Ive already put 3 litres of oil and 250ml of Nulon friction reducer stuff into the box. I thought the capacity was 2.8 litres. Hope im not filling up something else, lol.

Shaun.

Its just under 3.8 litres. I filled up mine with one US gallon (3.8 litres) of Redline. I had a bit left in the bottle afterwards. So if ur around that amount you should be fine

Thanks for your replies.

So do you reckon i should get another litre of oil? Ive got 3.2 litres in it at the moment.

When i put my finger in the filler hole in the side of the gearbox, i can feel that the oil is just below the filler hole (maybe 2 or 3 mm below).

I suspect i should do it properly.

By the way, is Redline oil tha shizzle? How much is it?

Shaun.

erm, thats really up to you. Probably could put a few mls in there but whether it would make a difference i wouldnt know =/

Opinions about the Redline oil is pretty divided. I found that it improved my gearbox, while some people find that it doesnt. It cost me 120$ for 1 gallon. (3.8 litre)

the diff and box should always be filled up to capacity and underfilled...

What do you mean by "and underfilled"?

Anyway, i bought another litre and filled it up to capacity. It took about 3.65 litres.

Shaun.

Its been a while since ive done my gearbox but isn't kinda hard to over fill it? I though capacity was when it reaches the filler hole making it impossible to overfill... unless your cars jacked up on some crazy angle?

yeah theres two ways of overfilling... jacked at an angle like so. or by doing what i do and filling through the shifter hole as its 10 times easier. I make sure that old oil is all drained out and that i put in the exact amount. all good

yeah cool that makes sense. had me questioning if i had done something wrong there for a while.

ive found it quite easy just pick up some clear flexible pipe, drop it down near the brake booster and into the filler plug. Wack a funnel on the top and start filling.

nothing wrong with that either except it takes ages, gear oil is quite thick and takes a while to go through a plastic tube. Ive done it before and heated up the oil in the microwave to thin it out a bit :(

lol thats awesome!

There is a good tutorial for changing your oil http://www.anthonymcgrath.co.uk/gtroc/gear_oil.htm

Its pretty simple , he fills the gearbox through the filler hole with a syringe pump , you must be able to get something like thet in Oz

I used exactly the same pump and it probably is the best way to fill the gearbox.

Just a couple of things..dont suck the oil up with the syringe just undo the cap and fill it up near the top then put the cap back on using a rag.

Also if you put in redline heavy duty shockproof be prepared for a sore shoulder... its like treacle!!

The capacity of a gtst gearbox is 4.1 litres

    • If it (the code) wasn't still current, it should have gone away by itself by now. No, nothing it 10/10. But it is quite likely. Everything else to do with the ignition could still be responsible (which is wires and connectors). The car is an old piece of shit now, so all the wires and connectors are also old pieces of shit.

    • Before I get to the test day, just to finish off the android head unit. This is a demo from car start up....the standard/host system takes a few seconds to boot (same as all v37) but Android comes up quickly. In this vid I'm using the delivered launcher but have set the default to Agami since which is easier to navigate when if use primarily 5 apps. You can see the host system still takes over when required eg putting it in reverse, and you can switch between Android and not by holding the back button 3 sec. It is pretty responsive (fast) but you can see I had to press harder than expected a couple of times.  I still have the phone connected to the stock system, and that also seamlessly takes over Android music playing. v37-android-demo.mp4 The bigger reason that I put this in though is so that I can use Ecutek directly on the head unit. That gives me a dash with logging (up to 20MB only), high and low value warnings on any parameter etc etc. I've run a USB cable from the Ecutek OBD dongle to a USB input on the unit, easy. v37-ecutek-demo.mp4   The unit did freeze on the launcher the other day, I think Agami was trying to verify the license when it didn't have a data connection...will monitor and report back if there are any other problems but so far I'm very happy with the upgrade.
