Folks,

The 2008 Allied Metal Recyclers Speed Event Series kicks off on Saturday arvo/evening at Wanneroo. Starts at 4.30 pm & finishes under lights at 10.30.

Spectator entry is entirely free so why not come down for a look? Say hello even.

Full details are on the website (also calendar, entry form, registration, supp regs etc etc) and there will be the usual bewildering range of cars entered. Remember this series is our only state based sprint & hillclimb competition & features everything from sports sedans, wings & slicks open wheelers, ex rally cars, road cars, historic cars - you name it you will probably find it there. Well worth a look.

Well done Richard, a great result, especially considering the first 4-5 are dedicated racecars :(

Faaark me - the first four or five? :D I wish. Out of the first thirteen twelve of them are either race or rally cars. The other was a GT3 Porsche. :D I remember the old days when you had half a chance of a result in a road car. :)

Anyway my driving sucked badly on Saturday - so there is much truth in the rumour I couldn't drive out of sight on a dark night. Mind you, with stock brakes the thing can be seen from quite a distance. I can't even claim to have been the quickest Nissan on the night. Paul got me by 0.2 seconds. But I did manage to be the quickest Skyline. Mostly because George took his thing home on the back of a trailer after some unhappy engine noises.

It was a good day/night. Glad the 38 degree temperatures didn't eventuate.

Oh and next round is on in Collie on the 2nd March followed by the Busselton event (I think). Be nice to see some Skylines there.

    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
