R34 has a larger comp cover, larger comp wheel made from plastic composite, and larger turbine housing. The similarities are in the centre bearing housing, and turbine rotor.

Basically the R34 turbo is a higher flowing unit good for a few more kW at the cost of a bit less response. Blame the bigger turbine A/R for that one, but it would still go pretty good for a straight bolt up unit.

Frankly unless you absolutely have to change due to turbine failure, I'd save more $$ and get a high flow or hybrid upgrade and side step the ceramic OE turbine.

I thought all skyline (and silvia for that matter) turbos are ball bearing...

the R34 turbo is fairly light for its size (plastic comp wheel) but cannot handle more than say 13-14psi of boost before shattering due to being ceramic. I think the R32 turbo has steel wheels (correct?) and can therefore handle more boost. silvia turbos are also steel-wheeled for what its worth.

The R34 turbo is also larger (as mentioned) so yeah not sure if that means it would spool slower due to its size or quicker due to its weight...

simply put NO... they are not bb turbo's i found this out the hard way when i took mine apart

"One of the biggest attractions of this turbo is its sophisticated design – it uses a water-cooled core with a roller bearing, ceramic turbine and lightweight compressor. These factors contribute to a very fast spool-up time."

correct me if im wrong but r32 turbines are t28's i believe... these always have steel wheels and are a good bit of kit.
