nah,not on purpose

i was waiting for tightarse tuesday for discounts on the petrol!!

The intank fuel filter should be able to handle it.-Last tiime i drained a fuel tank was years ago with my 83 prelude- after almost 20 years it had only a little bit of sediment in the tank...

  • 1 month later...

anyone used shell's v-power racing 100 octane?

i'm just worried about the E5 (ethanol) content in it as not all cars are compatible, and as with imports I have not found any references whether V35 is Ethanol tolerant...

Yeah ive used it a few times from said pertrol station and with the same results, i wont use it anymore however as the car has been tuned for 98ron and im now getting around 550km's to a tank all city driving with the new ecu.

Milton which is the closes shell that stocks it...

they haven't had it for over 6 weeks now... quite frustrating

they make more money by using the ethanol with the 91RON - as more people can afford it.

What sort of new ECU did you put in?

ive been using boost98 and notice a much smoother engine and drive. have to say i was quite concerned about the 10%ethonol but did a shit load of research and could find a major thing to be worried about. i did make sure i filled up with a full tank first go though and the ethonol blends with water that may be sitting at the bottom of your tank (this does happen) from moisture.

second tank through. much more impressed. did 510km country driving with just under half tank left, 4L V8 economy.... i was impressed.... not sure weather it was the fuel of ECU reset but it fogged factory specs. done it twice now.

some members on G35driver has reported that changing or cleaning the O2 sensor helps with the economy too. and of course best to do a ECU reset with it... Havent tried it, might give it a go this weekend. However our car is known for it's fuel sucking engine... i dont think we will see a lot of improvements with ECU tunes or change fuel types, it comes down to the driving style...

We have several topics on this issue (one would suffice and probably cause less confusion). However if you read through all, you will find that these cars are actually pretty economical, as Warren has pointed out. I almost fell off my chair after reading the above comment "fuel sucking engine"...maybe next to a Toyota Echo.

Am I the only one here blown away by how good the economy is on these cars?

when i first got my car i was travelling to Wondai on a weekly basis, and the fuel economy was unbelieveable

you just don't expect to get >800kms out of a tank from a car with this much power

especialyl coming from the fuel-sucking engines from R-series skylines.. now they are horrible on fuel economy

but you'd expect decent economy from such advanced engine design that hte VQ has, not to mention the fact that its an NA

you're kidding, right??

this has to be one of the most economical for its power output cars i have driven for a long long time..

no im not kidding, if you have look a the figures on modern day 5-6L V8s with over 300kw, they consumes about 13-15L/100km. so in comparison, its no where as efficient ...

Have you owned a 5-6L V8 with over 300kw? I can tell you real world figures are far from those as mentioned.

Currently my 35 is getting closer to 12L/100km.

try to clean the O2 sensor with some rubbing alcohol first. as to reset ECU, u can do that urself, hmmm if u have access to the G35driver's forum, there's a dedicated thread on that...

Let start searching.

Got it:

I've done 2 things. 1/ Checked the ESM (section EC-68) for confirmation of this procedure, and 2/ done the procedure on my G.

I tried several times to do this without success b4 succeeding on about the 4th try.

-------------turned ign. to on & waited (only) 3 seconds- just 'on', not started!

--------------floored and released gas/p 5 times within 5 secs.

--------------waited 7 secs then floored gas/p for 10 secs at which time the check engine light blinks

------------- release gas/p

------------- floor and hold gas/p for 10 secs.

-------------your done.

seems timing is very important on this

I've done the procedure but have no idea if it's had the desired effect yet. Won't know that 'till later today.

If successful, this looks like any easy way to erase the ECU's memory. I'll post my impressions later. Would someone else try it too?

Thanks a lot.

One thing to note guys. We have a different ECU to the US G35.

I have looked into having mine reflashed and in speaking with a workshop in the US have confirmed that they are different. (This place has both)

Not sure if doing the steps would be doing anything bad, just saying.

If anyone gives it a shot, let us know.

Cheers

Bobby

What sort of new ECU did you put in?

I went with an autronic, apparently the first in the country with one fitted as autronic and my tuner both helped eachother to write the software to run the car... more headaches but at least it goes now, and a hell of alot better and more economically then it did before.

    • I'd be very surprised if you can buy new OEM mats. But if you can, I want some too!  Do you have links to the variations you found? Also, where are you located? I found that Nengun is happy to list items to purchase but when you do buy them you'll get an email that it's actually discontinued. As far as I know the variations in floor mats are different colour schemes as well as automatic and manual having a slightly different shape. The automatic ones fit into a manual car without issues, but I think you'd have trouble fitting the other way around. I have photos that show the shape difference if you care. FWIW I bought sets of used floor mats in decent condition at yahoo auctions.
    • Hi 🙋‍♂️. Just bought my Unicorn but the interior need some minor work so it would match my expectations ;). I noticed it is hard to get used oem floor mats in good condition so i started to dig if there's any chance to buy set of new ones. I found two websites - nengun and amayama and it looks like one can still buy factory new floor mats in Japan, but thers a small issue. Some mats (i assume genuine, oem ones) are marked as G4900 and these are "discontinued". The ones you can buy are marked as G4911 but i have no idea if these are also oem, made by other producer or some lower quality replacements that looks entirely different. Can anyone help? 😃  P.s. there is also some strange indication - 0V005, 0V015 and 0V505. Any idea what does it mean? Would appreciate any help with this 🙏
    • Hi, Marek here 🙋‍♂️. I finally fulfilled my longtime dream - recently bought Stagea and now waiting for it to arrive in Poland. There's only few of these in my country, and one of the owners  recommended mi this forum as a source of all the info i'd need since now i own one  so here i am.
    • Version 1 aluminium airbox is.......not acceptable No pics as I "didn't like the look.....alot" Even after all my "CAD", and measurements, the leg near the fusebox just didn't sit right as it ended up about 10mm long and made the angle of the dangle look wrong, the height was a little short as well, meh, I wasn't that confident that Version 1 was going to be an instant winner I might give Version 2 another go, there's plenty of aluminium at work, but, after having in on and off a few times, and laying in the old OEM airbox without the new pod filter and MAF, there may be an option to modify the OEM air box and still use the Autoexe front cover and filter.... maybe This >  Needs to fit in here, but using the panel, and not the pod, the MAF will need to fit in the airbox though> I'm thinking as the old OEM box and Autoexe cover that is sitting in the shed is just sitting around doing nothing, and they are relatively abundant and cheap to replace if I mess it up and need another, it may well fit with some modifications to how the Autoexe brackets mounts to the rad support, and some dremiling to move it get in there, should give me some more room for activities, as I don't want to move the MAF and affect the tune Sealing the hole it requires to stick it in the air box is simple, a tight fit and some pinch weld will seal it up tight  I am calling this a later problem though
    • and it ends up being already priced in as though you're just on 91RON without any ethanol. Car will lose a bit of economy as the short and long term fuel trims bring down the AFR back to stoich or whatever it is for cruise/idle for the engine.
