Hey all,

Not too sure if this is a tell tale sign of a future problem but my R32 GTS-t will cool down (the temp needle drops alot) when im driving in traffic when the out side temp is lower than 24 degrees?

I have a 32 GTR radiator in there, but i dont think that would be the cause surely.

It take FOREVER for it to warm up on idle and has never ever overheated on me. even on 40 degree days with AC on, it has never had a drama?

I have a front mount in the way also.

Anyone? or am i just being paranoid?

Cheers

I have a 50mm aluminium radiator and it takes a while to warm up but once its up to temp it doesnt change much, Might drop down to say 73-75 deg C on a cold night on the freeway. Which isnt enough to notice it on the stock temp gauge.

For anybodys who is interested 50deg C is where the temp gauge just starts to move above the cold make on the stock gauge.

Why would it be a good thing? Having it open means that the engine takes longer to warm up meaning more petrol and because it's not at the operating temperature, the engine is wearing out when it's not supposed to.

its good in summer but come wenter haha ull still there a while worming ur engin up and cooling it down.. but id rather this than the heat problem i just started having with my new setup.. last night was just crousing around off boost for lets say 40 mints and my water temp went up to 92 !! so i parked the car up.

i didnt think that the new turbo will generate soo much heat but it dose even tho i have ceramic coated everything.. i might see if i can get a turbo heat bag from somewhere and ill need to make some air duct to flow some freash air into my pod filter which at the moment is getting real damn hot air into it by the looks of things even with the vented bonet up there..

I don't know much about the thermostats, but wouldn't taking it out be the same thing as leaving it in during the track day? Because once the engine's warm, the thermostat's open so the engine is already trying its best to cool the engine? Taking it out would be the same thing, no?

The way I see it is that the thermostat's only there to help the engine warm up faster.

Correct me if I'm wrong guys.

Cheers

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
