Of course we will be able to grey import them. From what I head Nissan only intends to bring in 150 cars, which is not even close to full volume.

Sif they won't supply parts to grey import owners - money is money.

I know of over 10 GTRs already in the country - some of which are being used as we speak for evidence to get the compliancing happening - RAWS certification costs over $100k - as if a businessman would go to all the bother and expense if it wasn't going to happen.

Did you happen to ask the Nissan guy why they are $75-$85k in Japland and the USA, yet will be in the high $140ks here for exactly the same product? Would love to have heard his response. Nissan must think we are stupid - they don't seem to realise that this is the new world economy, and we will no longer be unfairly penalised for living in Australia.

I spoke to the guy at the Nissan stand and asked if any had been imported.

His reply was that if the car isnt bought in by Nissan Australia then it could only be used as a track car (ie non compliable) and that Nissan wouldnt even sell the owner an oil filter unless they can provide the VIN to confirm its an Australian released car.

I mentioned that nearlyt every time I go to get a part for my skyline they end up importing it anyway, so I doubted it would cause much grief for an owner as Nissan Japan would sell the parts, and that the Tuning houses in Japan offer more aftermarket support anyway. He had to agree, but wasnt happy LOL

Thats hilarious. Dont listen to the idiot.

If I, for example, bring one in under the personal import scheme having owned it in Japan for a year and they try to tell me they wont service it, they'll know the meaning of what "sparks flying" was all about.

Ive driven this car. A friend of mine here in Tokyo owns one and has let me drive it on a number of occasions. Its stunning. Pure and simple and he has said on a couple of occasions that he is growing weary of its, how should i say, inflexibility as a comfy daily that hes thinking of trading in for a new merc...

If he is in a position to let the car go around this time next year and im cashed up, well....you know.

Maybe, just maybe, that R35 plate i asked the old man to reserve will be put to good use after all.

Dont blame Nissan for car prices, look to the government.

In any case, there will be plenty of people that will kill for an R35, local or grey...no matter the "poison"

Yeah your right, he was at the SMASA with dragon as well. Dont rate it whatsoever.

The owner of this particular 180's name is Malcom and he was a member of SVD but is now a member of SMASA and has won trophies for that car as SMASA shows. He works for adelaide import wrecker and i have hated the car for years as how can you win a trophy with seat covers on a car!!! :D

I didn't make it to the show cause of work, so i missed out on this 180. does anyone have any pics of it

The fact of the matter is that if it had not been for the popularity of grey import skylines, Nissan Australia wouldn't be enjoying the response that the GTR is getting.

So the attitude that this bloke is giving towards grey imports is a joke! It's their own bloody fault for being stupid and not selling Skylines locally for the last decade and a half.

C'mon guys, any bikes at the show that were pic worthy.....if so, pls post.

Very few bikes. The bike section had Kawazaki, Suzuki and Yamaha trade displays and a few scooters. The Hot Rod hall had 1 chopper with trin pipes exiting underneith the seat, and high monkey bars.

    • Its a 2002 vr-x four VQ25DET, silver. Coil overs, lowered, polished alloys and sport exhaust. Bit of a project, was sitting in a shed for a while but runs and drives great.
    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
