Looking into fuel pumps at the moment. Have had quite a few quotes so far...

All the nismo, Tomei etc etc fuel pumps are all around the high $400 mark...

Sard slightly cheaper...

And then Bosch and Walbro around the $200 mark...

Would they be ok for around 300kws in a R33 GTR?

It will be a DIY so i know nismo would be the easiest to put in but for half the price its worth a bit of mucking around...

any ideas?

Or any one used these pumps, pros cons?

Have searched and had mixed results from all those pumps!!!

Or if anyone can get them cheaper or know where i could get them cheaper???

Personally i'd go Nismo or HKS. It's a little more but it's much easier to work with. Bosch are good (i have the 040, no complaints) but in R33's at least, can't reach the bottom of the tank and aren't as reliable on hard cornering, but i just don't dry the tank out so isn't an issue.

Also there's no cradle modifying with these drop in pumps. If you REALLY want to save money go Bosch/Tomei, but on a GTR especially you want something reliable and for an extra $200 you're getting an easier job and less to worry about down the track.

You won't save much money buying the Tomei when It's around the same price as Nismo and HKS

So many threads bout pumps, im getting dizzy :)

Its not that hard.

If you don't want to fiddle, cant use hand tools and want a solution you prolly wont have to think about… ever again, then slap ½ a G on a Nismo bolt in – Done, so simple, you'll forget which pump you have when asked.

If you live to tweak, can use hand tools, and don't mind playing around with things, then go the non bolt in option, and stick in your [iNSERT PUMP MODEL HERE] in tank.

The pump has NOTHING to do with G forces, fuel gauge etc blah blah. Clearly one needs to mount the pick up sock in the same location as factory… to get the same factory result. This means not using 2nd hand hay twine to tie the pump half way up the cradle support. It means thinking about line flex, material, line runs etc, as to not impact other systems.

No worries = plug in. Save some $ = doit urself - if i was rich and had no care for mechanical symbiosis... id go Nismo too (and debate it black N blue)

Me, if I fitted a bosch, I'd weld up a frame that the bosch would sit in just like a std pump, then I'd get the frame bright zinc coated so it wouldn't rust etc then I'd be half happy---------but this would cost as much as a nismo in the end and be a bit more mucking about------------and don't tell me I'm overdoing it, I've fought my pedanticism all my life and lost every time.

If I didn't do it like that I'd be going down the road saying 'Yeah, I got a bosch, but I'm going to take it out and fix it up soon!!!' and would always be nagging/noring away at me until I did.

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same.     • Yeah dunno why johhny posted that here with no context, just post on FB/insta bro where he put it up?  Laine had an off at T4 during Thurs prac, he's ok, car is less than perfect, they are done for the weekend, he can fill in the rest. Bando also binned it like 100m up the road.
