i have a 21 foot Donzi centre consol, but lately ive been doing a fair bait of surf fishing.

one of my fish from last year

it took a whole 40cm mullet down its gob.

dang, thats impressive... never caught anything that big ;\

My old man bought an older model 16 foot cruisecraft last year, powered by johnson 140hp outboard motor. thing fkn flies! Could prolly use it as a ski boat!

But anyhow, yes - took it out just down north haven last time, picked up some decent snapper, whiting and flathead. I personally love fishing for squid. We cleaned up heaps off the peninsula last yr around moonta - cant remember what the exact area was. Wallaroo i think?

Yeah I always drop a couple crab nets and take some squid jigs up to moonta. Even from the jetty you can pull a nice phat haul in

We have family property up at Hogswash near Waikerie. In my youth we used to catch lots of Redfin, Callop, the occasional Murray Cod (70cm is my biggest), and plenty of carp. But in the last 15 years fishing has been shite with 99% carp. Imagine my great surprise last weekend when we caught about 50 fish between 2 of us in a 24 hour period. One beautiful 50cm 1.5kg Callop we ate for dinner Friday night. A couple of 2kg carp, a couple of 1kg carp, 1 x 14cm redfin, and a large assortment of 10-20cm Callop and Bream. Amazing - the Murray is so healthy above lock 1 - best it has been for decades!

Went fishing often when I lived in Darwin and caught many 1m+ Jewfish (Mulloway), 1m+ Spanish Mackerel (best fighting fish I have ever encountered), and have even landed a 1m Barracuda - took well over an hour and he bent the 2ft wire tracer about 20 times!

Have also caught large Salmon off the beach at 7 mile beach Coffin Bay, and a host of other fish over there from boat and beach including a group of us catching about 40 30-40cm Trevally off the beach in one sitting! We have friends own an oyster lease in Coffins, so we also caught a chook basket full of fresh oysters and cooked them up kilpatrick, chilli and cheese, mushroom gravy, and various other varieties one night - we put away about 20 dozen between us!

Some pics attached

Last one is of me sitting on top of a F#$k off size sandhill in the Coffin Bay National Park - to give some reference see the 10yo lad about 15 metres below me .... was awesome!

Thats making me hungry again Andrew.

My dad goes between Brighton & Noarlunga between 6am & 8am most mornings off the beach and usually gets a good feed each time.

He got 18 average size mullet and 1 big gar this morning.... I went over for lunch and helped them eat the things....nothing like fresh fish.

Moonta SAU trip on the 24th - 27th April... myself, a couple others going there so far.... should be enough blue swimmers and squiddies to keep people interested, let alone whatever fish is biting... any takers? More the merrier :action-smiley-069:

I might well be keen for that Ben. I will have to beg the +1 and 5 month old child for a leave pass. Where are you staying? Is that a public holiday weekend, or are you just taking a few days off work? Will anyone be bringing a boat?

Its the Anzac day long weekend, aka Friday Public Hol... I'll be going up there on the thurs night after work and staying till Sun arvo... nobody so far is taking a boat, but if you want to take one, port hughes is less than 5 km away and has a boat launch,... would be great to have some boaties up there too!

I used to fish a hell of a lot (mostly on the Bay in Melb but numerous trips too) from pier and on the boat (family sold it years ago now), been up to Yorke's twice since moving here but nothing to write home about, mostly crabs and unless someone else is peeling them I ain't interested. :ermm:

Used to do pretty much the lot, lure, troll, live, but mostly bait. Never fly tho.

Best efforts would have to be John Dory off the wharf and a brace of Tailor in the estuary round Merimbula (NSW), lotsa Flathead at Mallacoota (VIC), my first Murray Cod was fun (nothing huge in size), but these days I think I'm just too impatient.

Good pics Skippy, don't ya hate those port jacksons?!

We fished for snapper out of Cowell and in Lucky Bay where my mates cousin owns shack No 1, and we lost count the amount of times we pulled up those sharks......I reckon he was the same one each time lol.

yeah sharks are annoying, but 1). they are great fun to catch and give a hell of a fight, and 2). make good bait

If I go to Moonta, you should drive over for a fish even if you don't camp Pete! Especially if mid life crisis brings his boat!

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
