seriously i have learnt the hard way as a few ppl would know, i lost my first R32 GTS-T after 3 months of owning it and i was only 18, nearly lost me too, all 3 days before christmas and i didnt expect it to happen nor was i being an idoit

+1 to everyone else that said get a 33 N/A or 34 N/A

but dont think coz u have driven a V8 SS around that u will be able to handle it. (im sure other ppl will agree with me)

coz in a commie once your foot is flat thats all the power u will get out of it.

in a turbo import u can put your foot down around a corner and it will literally be a death trap if you dont know wat is gonna happen. coz once boost hits if your mid way around a corner not expecting it you may aswell be part of a tree.

V8 and Turbo are two different things.

i started with a commie and now im in a skyline and this is my 4th car.

Start small and work your way up

P.S- my mate wrote off an excel in a crash shop where he works lol, had foot on pedal in reverse and started the car, ute was parked behind him and the rest well he wouldnt tell me but u can picture it lol

Too true Max. I used to have a 5.7litre that had reasonable power but it was always predictable, on the other hand a turbo car thats had its boost messed with can be abit like the powerband of a 2 stroke bike, unpredictable....and in the hands of a kid can be a death trap.

No kidding. My mate had an auto R33 GTST and that thing nearly killed him. Gears had a mind of their own. He'd be cornering normally, not thrashing, and the car would decide to go down a gear, boost kicks in and the ass flies out. Took him a while to get used to it, especially in the wet.

a turbo car with a LSD is a lot more easier to land urself in trouble than a commie V6 or even V8 with an open wheeler. people focus too much on peak power or which one is faster, power delivery and handling characteristics are a lot more important that which one beats the other off traffic lights down anzacs.

Na i find the lsd on a skyline to be heaps predictable more so than an open wheel commo that occasionaly locks

Yeah good point Steve but you & I know that you always power out of a corner....how many kids do you see that power into a corner...heaps.

Imagine then if they were in a V8 where the power is pretty much instantaneous, if they're smart they would take their foot off as they start to lose it....but in Turbo car, they have probably picked up too much speed already before the boost takes over and slams them into a gutter, pole or worst still another car.

How many turbos on this site alone have we seen do exactly that....a few I bet.

haha ahk, thing is at what speeds does it lock up? im talking about the viscous opening and closing at 50+k's, usually thats way too much force for a open diff to even try and lock up.

Go a 31, cheap first car and they last almost forever lol. My first car was a celica but I bought a 33 for my 18th. I wouldnt suggest a car heaps expensive to start off with. Insurance for you will be big not to mention rego fuel ect... Ive seen a lot of friends totally destroy their first cars due to lack of expirience. Just think about whats suitable not what will make you look cool :D

Its just like when you first start learning how to drift, you will always spin out at start but thats how you learn with your mistakes. Buy a car that you would be happy with, turbo or not what do you perferr...its your choice at the end.

IMO dont buy a turbo car, im 17 and i had a new holden astra cost less than 50 bucks to fill up and would last forever didnt feel the need to speed didnt feel the need to show off (it was an astra) insurance cost stuff all and no attention from the cops. then i bought an r33 gts t. i dont want to do stupid things but like everyone has ill admit ive risked loosing my liscense cos the temptation is there in a high power car. also u risk attention from the cops, defects which cost even more money. i fill up with petrol like 3 times a fortnight and insurance is 2,500 grand.

in my opionion buy something cheap reliable that wont attract attention. less of a temptation to do stupid things.

my two cents

you pay $2500 a year for insurance??? I'm 16 and i pay $1700 a year!

well i can prove not to get a turbo car for first car,

coz a girl i know got a 180SX turbo auto for her first car, last nite as everyone knows was heaven for ppl who can drive lol,

but the point is she came around a corner and seen other cars coming so she put her foot down and the thing hit boost sent her one way then the other and straight over the medium strip onto the other side of the road, no cars coming luckily, but bent tie rod or sumthin like that, we havent looked at it yet.

but thing is turbo for ur first car is a death trap and u will most likely crash, big or small, either way its a crash.

get a integra, the look good and go hard, plus u get the added bonus of if u put a mugen badge on it u get 20 kw extra power LOL

your probably had an insurance broker because when i got my first car Rx7 s1 insurance was going to cost me $2500full comp but the broker got it @ $1600

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
