Basically i bought this car a year ago. within the first week of having it i had overheating problems. Obviously head related... so i took it in to get fixed got a new head gasket fitted, and then within a week again i noticed the car smoking and eventually overheating again :) so i took it back in had the head gasket replaced with a stronger one (think its copper) but not sure and they also sent my head to get reconditioned meanwhile they replaced my diff ( which was whiny) and they did a service, They also wound down the boost.. when i got it back the car ran fine, The only problem was the car was blowing smoke.. and within a couple of weeks a little bit of smoke turned into a whole lot of smoke.. my theory is the rings need replacing now as there was too much compression, head is a N47... I really DO NOT want to sell this car i would rather fix it anyday... but my 260z has too much centimental value And i can't part with it. And too many cars in the front yard. So the skyline has to go. I don't think it will need much to get it back on the road. the car did run beautifully, started right away and didn't miss a beat. Would make a nice cruiser or weekend warrior/drifter. I was gonna have it as a cruiser and restore it.

Car is currently not running and unregistered, I could have it registered if needed.

Paint is faded but still looks alright. There is a bit of rust but nothing too major, the main concern was under the front windshield.

Price: $3500 o.no. it really needs to go I'm open to offers but i think that price is reasonable considering it cost me just under double that

The pics below are from a while ago but the car is the same as in the pictures just minus the stickers. (gf broke my digi cam) so these are all i got

damn shame about the smoking.....

Hey for that price you should keep it and get it going the best as possible.... then sell it in perfect running order!

I think these type of skyliners are one of my favorites, im sure others feel the same too!

maybe the reason that the head gaskets went, and now its smoking is that you had detonation, and killed the head gasket, and damaged the piston lands, thus causing the smoking,

have you done a compression test , are all the cylinders the same ?

my 2 cents worth..

Nigel

sorry the only parts i have are going with the sale. there was no detonation at the start but towards the end once i had the new head on i had detonation only when going over a certain rpm.

Also Mag86 im the guy that u found on the z garage a couple months back (don't know if u remember) I lost your email addy a while ago and havn't been able to reply, just so you know i didn't snob you off hehe.... im regretting selling it but atm i just can't keep it.. and it has to go :D

If i had the money and didn't have other commitments the car wouldn't be for sale, iv'e put the sale of for aslong as i can.

Also if anybody is interested my friend is selling this:

R30 hatchback L24 Efi, 5 speed manual, Spare starter motor, 5 spare wheels, Just replaced the diff, 3 months registration, daily driver, good running order

You can buy this and my C210 in a joint sale for $3500. (no extra cost) has all the running gear e.t.c that can be inter-changable

or if anybody is just interested in his car $800 o.n.o is what he's asking.

  • 9 months later...

*bump*

Sorry to bring up such a old topic.. but yeah i bought the car with the 5 stud conversion.

Also i still have the car if anybody wants it ill take $1500-$2000, probably worth that much in parts.

if it doesn't sell soon though ill strip it and take some stuff for my 260z and sell some parts and it will go to the wreckers.

If anyone is interested I'm willing to negotiate.

Cheers

i did a quick search and came up with this.

Vehicle Uplift

Adelaide depot [you bring vehicle to] Cormack Road, Wingfield

Vehicle Delivery

Sydney depot [you collect vehicle from] Marple Avenue Villawood

Transportation time

Approximately 4 working days.

Our Quotation: $556.99 - inclusive of GST.

since the car isn't actually running though, it will cost an extra $75 either side to get it picked up.

I might be able to cover the cost on my side.

I'm waiting for a couple other quotes to come through if there's a better one I'll update

    • No. Turbo shuffle and surge/flutter are not the same thing. Specifically, on a GTR, turbo shuffle has a definite meaning. On a GTR, the twin turbos are assumed to be the same thing and to operate the same way, exactly. In reality, they do not. Their exhaust sides are fed and exhaust a little differently, to each other. Their inlet sides are fed and exhausted a little differently, to each other. Consequently, when they are "working" they are often at slightly different points on the compressor map compared to each other. What this means, particularly when coming on boost, is that one of them will spool up and start producing extra flow compared to the other, which will put back pressure on that other compressor, which will push the operating point on that other compressor up (vertically). This will generally result in it bumping up against the surge line on the map, but even if it doesn't, it upsets the compressor and you get this surging shuffle back and forth between them That is "turbo shuffle" on a GTR. It is related to other flutter effects heard on other turbo systems, but it is a particular feature of the somewhat crappy outlet piping arrangement on RB26s. There are plenty of mods that have been attempted with varying levels of success. People have ground out and/or welded more material into the twin turbo pipe to try to prevent it. Extending the divider inside it works, removing material doesn't. There are aftermarket replacement twin turbo pipes available, and these exist pretty mush purely because of this shuffle problem.
    • You can temporarily* use lock collars to keep it in place until you can do the bushes, back the nuts off, slide them in, snug back up. *temporarily is often for ever
    • Thanks for the quick reply. To be clear, when you say turbo shuffle do you mean turbo flutter "stustustu" or referring to something else? I had thought they were the same thing. When I wrote the post my intention was to say it wasn't a flutter/compression surge sound. My understanding was that a flutter sound would be occurring when throttle is released, whereas I can keep the throttle in the same position for this noise
    • Hi everyone, I've been wrestling with this for a while now and have been trying to find out the cause. For context, the turbos used are Garrett 2860 -5s, the BOV is a BNR32 HKS SSQV IV kit, the car is currently tuned to ~470 whp on 17.5 psi. The car drives normally, pulls well when it doesn't happen, and I can replicate it fairly easily. It does not sound like turbo shuffle or flutter. The engine has only a thousand or so miles and has had this behavior since it was completed. After my engine was built for my R32 GTR, I noticed that the car now sometimes makes an air discharge sound on what appears to be positive boost pressure that sounds really similar to a BOV. I had thought that it was a BOV issue but even when replacing it with a brand new unit, the sound persisted. It seems like it's coming from the passenger side but I may be mistaken. The closest scenario I could find was this post here https://www.gtr.co.uk/threads/maybe-a-boost-leak-opinions.147955/https://www.gtr.co.uk/threads/maybe-a-boost-leak-opinions.147955/ started by @yakshii and it sounds very similar. As in, at partial throttle once I reach positive boost I begin to hear the same psh psh psh psh psh sound like air is leaking somewhere when I keep the throttle in the same position. It most commonly happens in 4th gear at around 3-3.5k RPM and 5th gear around 2.5-3k RPM, which seems to coincide with normal positive boost thresholds. It might be similar to what @Austrian GTR mentioned about his own HKS SSQV. Notable difference would be that when he applies more throttle when it happens, it stops. In my scenario if I apply more throttle during this repeated psh psh psh sound, the cadence of the sound gets faster and louder rather than stopping. If I lift off slightly and apply throttle again, it will normally stop and pull without issue. I've checked all rubber couplers to ensure that they are tight, but have not gotten the opportunity to properly do a pressurized boost leak test. If anyone has had similar experiences or thoughts on what might be the cause, I'd be very keen to hear them. I also have a video of it happening from inside the cabin, if that would make it easier to understand: https://youtu.be/2zqZXcx8jbA
