current setup is

3.0L

3.5inch dump to cat then 3" all the way

44mm tial gate with .9bar spring

6boost manifold

GT35/40 .82 housing

the car just cannot hold boost. its making 300rwkw at 4000rpm and just keeps going because it cant hold the boost.

wanted to ask the gurus out there wat are the main causes?

44mm gate cant possibly be to small?

Dump to big?

faulty manifold?

trying to dc the gate, so it shouldnt make any boost. which will rule out the gate theory.....

was wondering if anyone had any other ideas?

*******************UPDATE**********************

scan0001.jpg

blue = with gate

red = without gate

its defiently the manifold. it just cant flow enough air.

next step is possibly redesigning the manifold to have 2 outlets merging into one or getting a new one.

or a bigger housing like mentioned above which i doubt will help due to the manifold.

on a positive note.....quite responsive as u can see lol

so boost is dropping off below the .9bar ?

or do you mean the other way around and boost is increasing?

boost in increasing...just keeps gettn higher and higher.

we set it at .9bar (gate spring) and it will go as far as 22psi

Drop the exhaust from the dump (before cat) and see what it does.

Failing that, DOUBLE check the gate is connected correctly (hoses are the right way around) sounds like it might not be as this can be a cause for it to skyrocket with boost for no reason.

After you find those two things out post back.

I would also up the gate spring to 16-17psi if your going to run over 20psi

do a careful dyno plot with the wastegate disconnected, the vac line

this will mean unlimited boost (almost like how it is now) so dont trash it on the street, dyno only

a great way to kill your engine is by stuffing around with the boost on a fresh new engine

if you get the same result, either the vac signal to the gate is incorrect or the gate isnt working correctly

how much boost do you want to run ?

gate is 100% connected correnty. one of the 1st things we done.

not so sure about taking off the exhaust.

wouldnt that cause spike and not creep?

the cars currently on a dyno as we speak......

we are dc-ing the gate atm to test that theory......if we dc the gate it should make no boost right?

we plannin to run 20psi for a start.....not sure how high we willl go

if the gas isnt being bypassed through the gate due to a flow blockage after teh gate - then this can cause the boost to creep - hence the suggestion to remove the exhaust

what boost controller you using? how many vacuum lines to the gate?

2 lines to the gate, they are the right way around as we checked them with a diagram (Me and the mechanic both went over it at the same time)

atmo gate, exhasut wont matter

boost controller is AVCR set everything to minimum (basically turned off) so should be running of the spring only.

current test is holding gate completely open to see if its flowing adequately

What do you mean your not so sure?

You dont even know whats causing it, drop the exhaust and see what it does... and double check the gate.

There isnt much to infinite boost climbs, its only a few things that will cause it.

blockage/restriction after the turbo or something not connected correctly before it

Exhaust WILL matter. Come here asking for help and then tell me it wont matter when you obviously dont even know?

Why ask for help if you know it?

found the issue.

droped the gate off and its still causing creep.

the manifold isnt flowing enough air to the gate so thats why its creeping.

very hard to believe being a 6boost manifold.....

only solution atm is possibly redesigning the manifold.

I dare say that the 6boost item is a tried and proven design, you are not the first to use it and many people before you have had no issues.

It seems you unfortunately don't want to listen to any advise given to try and help your cause.

Before questioning the work of someone else, do the VERY SIMPLE test:

- Unbolt the cat from the dump pipe and do a power run. A restriction in the exhaust causes back pressure, thus causing boost to creep/increase.

If you are not prepared to listen to any advice, best not to ask :P

What is the I.D. (Inner Diameter) of the wastegate pipe/flange, before the wastegate?

    • Nice, thanks for sharing your progress....that's a pretty long list you are putting into it!
    • Decided to upgrade my pressurised plastic coolant expansion tank for a fancy pants alloy version The OEM versions can get brittle, even the new plastic one I got when I first got the car is a starting to show signs of "stress" I wasn't cheap, but it is basically unbreakable
    • Morning all, I have an RB25DET Neo that's in need of a rebuild. Will need new pistons etc due to detonation damage. TLDR - recommended engine shops for RB rebuild.
    • Gday Thought it was about time I started a build thread! As expected this project has snowballed into a huge financial liability, but unless you’re strong willed and responsible, it’s not a surprise. Background -  My first turbo car was an R32 GTS-4, got my full license and then totalled my Au Falcon a week later, so while trying to sell my RMZ450 dirtbike to buy another car a bloke offered to swap the R32 which at the time I felt like I was ripped off but looking back and seeing prices of those now ($40kish) it was a good deal, I didn’t know enough about these cars to appreciate what I had so sold it before the RB20 blew up. Between here and there, out of 12 cars I’ve owned the note worthy ones are a V8 Lexus SC400 (soarer), a couple of XR6 Turbos and my beloved S15 which I had for about 3 years, picked it up for $12500, repairable write off but she was fine, gun metal grey/pewter and bone stock/unmolested until I got my hands on it. Ended up spending about the value of the car and 280kw, 2 demerit points by the time I got defected and sold it for $14500 (also $40kish in today’s market, rip) Fast forward to the present day, I’m in a much better position financially and daily an MQ Triton (great cars, pipe down Ranger Bois), I cruised marketplace and car sales for a few months looking for another R32, the best deal I could find was an absolute rust bucket half finished project for $12000, until this R33 popped up in Port Macquarie for $18k - unregistered and barely running but decent shape, kept an eye on it for a few weeks and the price steadily dropped, $16k then $15k then $14k, that was the point where I was like shit someone’s gonna snatch this up! It was owned by a young bloke who had big plans but him and his missus just had a baby so smartest move financially for them but big gain for me. So 2 days later I’m towing a car trailer to pick this thing up. Roughly 2 weeks and $3500 later I’m cruising around Newcastle in my beat up R33 all smiles and dose noises! It only needed some basic shit to get it going, coil packs and air flow meter, electrical stuff and all fluids changed, 158k kms and running pretty good, nice smooth engine after oil and coolant flush - when I say coolant I mean it had been filled up with tap water, every gallery and heater element was filled with rust, 8-9 flushes later and still had brown liquid coming out but she’ll be right. The car was painted R34 Bayside Blue at some point but whether it was a cheap job or just not looked after is anyone’s guess, clear coat flaking like sausage roll.  Was rethinking my choices and contemplating life, had it up for sale for $22k - still cheaper than any registered R33 but got little interest, next minute I had an opportunity at work - 6 months overseas for good money, so that was a no brainer, fast forward again and here we are with a 50% finished project. • Losses have to be less with DC coupling. Provided the battery inverter has decent MPP tracking ability - which really shouldn't be a problem. It's not 2005 any more.
