looking to buy this turbo as i once again blown another hiflowed turbo.

the power figure im looking for would be about 270-280 rwk.

im not a fan of huge boost and wouldnt want to go past the 16-17 psi mark. What combo would i need in terms of a/r, housings would i need to achieve this.

i have all the supporting mods also. car is a r33 gtst. internally standard also.

when does it make full boost also.

Im also looking into a gt3540 but is it over kill for what im chasing.

can i use factory dump also?

Best off doing a search, as this has been covered quite extensively in a few threads, but for 280rwkw, i think the general consensus was that a .63 or .86 3071 offered better response without any major top end power difference, as your not maxing out the 76.

i tried searching but couldnt find what i was looking for.

reason why im looking at the 3076r is not to limit myself in future when i decide to go full rebuild.

just looking for a quick street car for now though have future ambitions for using the car for track

i'm getting a 3076r IW with 0.63 rear tuned at the moment (got similar mods to you), should be ready tuesday. power goal is also 270rwkw

A few people on here have great results with the .63 3076(try the mafia), although most of them find that the exhaust backpressure caused by the .63 limits the power to less than the 76 front can make. IMO .63 3071 for 270-300rwkw or .86 3076 for 300-330rwkw, .86 3582 for 330+

reason why i want the 3076r is due to me wanting to run lower boost levels to achieve the power, and not limit myself.

plus ive read the 3076 dosent come on boost as hard. which is what id want.

just after the opinions of this particular turbo only.

i was going to get the real 3071r but was told by a few sources the 3076 would more comfortably make 270 and be more streetable. plus i opted for the .63 taking into account i wanted less lag and i wasn't chasing >300rwkw

how many are there?

AFAIK there are two different garret comp housings and six different ex housings. I would speak to mafia, as thats the same turbo he has. I believe he thought a .86 3071 would offer the same response with a lower level of detonation, and slightly lower peak power potential(he is making 314rwkw 18 psi), although if you are considering more power down the track, a .63 3076r can be easily upgraded with only an exhaust housing when need be.

The on-road results for the 0.63 seem pretty good, but there may be some issues with boost control by the sounds of things. They certainly seem to give a big whack of early response, and depending on needs and preferences that may give more torque, earlier, than some people want. Definitely ask Mafia and BHDave what is their general view on this characteristic.

The consensus amongst those of us with a turbine A/R of 0.82 (or 0.87 HKS version) is of progressive, driveable response. Haven't heard a complaint yet. At 270kW it might be a technical difference between 3071 and 3076 rather than something that you can feel or measure, if response is the goal.

As always, it depends on the use of the vehicle, and skill/preference of the driver.

Just specify 2 things up front. You want the waste gate ported as large as possible and you want an actuator rated as close as possible to your expected minimum boost. Do not accept a softer actuator and expect to just wind preload in. You will compromise peak flow out of the waste gate and as it's performance is already marginal you will introduce boost creep issues.

I don't think a 3071 will do much more than a genuine 280rwkw, the compressor just doesn't have the balls. So yeah, the 3076 is the turbo to get if you want 270rwkw with the potential for low to mid 300s.

As far as streetabilty is concerned, the 3071 small compressor, big turbine and small turbine housing gives a very early boost threshold. You end up with a reasonably linear curve and avoid the rapid power increase at 3500-4000rpm you'd have with a bigger compressor and the same rear end. I'd say it's very streetable and perfect for the lazy driver (like me) provided you don't expect to crack the triple ton.

il get an oil pressure test done first then go from there. i actually think the reasons for my hiflows dying is due to modifying the stock bov. wayyy to much compressor surge even on light throttle. comp wheel blew outwards towards the afm...

for the time being im going to run a standard turbo so i can just get my car on the road and run 11 psi or so. well see how that one goes for now

Moving to a GT30 based turbo will be something that should make you smile each time you drive it.

The highflows weren't from Slide were they? There was a few reported failures that seemed related to quality control in assembly/manufacture, rather than anything done/not done on the owner's part after they were fitted.

Main point being, if you are going GT30, do it now rather than spending the time refitting a stocker.

im not used to anything big as this will be my first worthwhile upgrade.

i have to wait a couple months til i get a gt30 turbo. need the car on the road quickly. stock turbo is just temporary :)

we just finished putting on a gcg high flow on a mates r33, got it tuned @ maztech, pulled 263 rwkw @ 13.5 pounds spiked to 15psi we got the sheet

some high flows are still good! ive got a gcg on mine and waiting for a retune next week @ racepace.

    • New CAS just turned up from NZ Wiring. Looks like a nice bit of gear.  So, yeah. Triggered, bro. Realised I may as well do the cam belt while mucking about with it so will order one of them.
    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
