In 1991 and to capitalise on the car's competition success, Nissan Oz imported a batch of road-going GT-Rs. Just 100 of the 2.6-litre, twin-turboed 'six' with 4WD and four-wheel steer were in the first boatload and priced at $107,000 each. At a time when the cheapest Porsche 911 in the book was worth a neat $60,000 more than the Nissan, hopes were high that those 100 'Zillas would be sold within minutes of word spreading. It didn't happen. At the end of 1992 and coinciding with the car's banishment from Touring Car competition the sales tally stood at 67 cars and Nissan announced that no more would be imported. Officially, anyway.

How can we still import r32 gtr's if they were sold locally?

yes, a few (think either 100 or 500) we sold locally, so that the car would qualify into the races as a production car. They were manufactured overseas then brought down and modified in Australia and then sold to the public for ludicrous amounts of money.

You can still buy em coz they were grey imports back then too. Same reason why you could buy a 99 Beetle in australia from a dealer OR you could import one yourself... some cars have different regulations on em to others.

By that theory then I should be able to import a '99 Prelude then, coz Honda don't make em or sell em any more... but you can't coz it was a production model in Australia.

But anyway this convo is way off topic, feel free to start a new thread regarding this.

R31Nismoid,

I have something you may be interested in.

It is a video of the 1990 ATCC with a lot of R31 camera in the car stuff.

It has shortened highlights or segments of all the rounds including Godzilla's first.

I got it at a car book shop in Parramatta in NSW. They had more copies, and other ATCC years also..........

Standing ovation!Mate, that's gotta be THE most devoted set of fingertips to have tapped all that out! With all sincerity, thankyou for taking the time to look into the GTR's earliest days! Now all I need to do is find someone who has the same level of knowledge and dedication to write about the roadgoing R32 GTR and it's various developments and incarnations!

That is a copy out of that skys the limit book. There is a PDF of the complete book floating around here somewhere.

Anyone know who wrote/published this "Sky's the Limit" book?I'm trying to find it everywhere, but coming up blank everytime...

It can be downloaded from http://www.overflow.250x.com/_framed/250x/...elimitshort.htm

The Bathurst GT-R content is included, though not totally up-to-date.

The Obakemono Downunder (the Aussie GT-R racing history) is also available in full online: http://www.overflow.250x.com/_framed/250x/...0Downunder.html The content is more up to date, with a few spelling corrections and a few small additions.

Cheers,

    • Hi...so a "development" here aswell The swap is "done" and car went "test drive" BUT it seems the clutch(maybe gearbox?) is a little bit sad? I bought this clutch kit https://justjap.com/products/xtreme-heavy-duty-organic-clutch-flywheel-kit-nissan-skyline-r31-r32-r33-push-type "Problem" is that the first gear is hard to put into and it seems that the clutch is not disengaged. It was not the problem with the old clutch...(or like sometime the first gear would not get as easy specialy when the fluid was cold) So? Can it be like...bad "install" or is the clutch wrong ((it should not have been) i done research to get the right one) Or is this "normal" with new clutch and needs to be break in?
    • @Duncan I can try  and thanks i did not thought about VIN and part numbers for 33/34. @GTSBoy yeah it looks like iam gonna do that
    • Forgot to include this but this is the mid section of my steering rack that looks like it has a thread/can be turned with that notch mentioned in the post:
    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
