Hey guys almost finished with the biuld and im a little scared that the turbo choice wont be what im after. The goal in mind is 450rwhp or 340rwkw and im thinking that the turbo wont be up to the task, with seeing dyno results in the 26 section with gt35r's getting just over 340rwkw. Should I go back to twins? Please let me know what you guys think and how you think it will perform.

Whats the 3082... 500 or 550hp?

I had the GT3040 (i think its been renamed) and that was the biggest version of the GT30 frame (600hp)

I made 270rwkw @ 17psi, and 24psi/370rwkw (factory head, cams etc) but that wasnt PULP... so i couldnt see why the 600hp couldnt come close to 320-330rwkw, although you will be leaning on it with at least 24psi IMO and thats pretty heavy going...

I honestly think you'll need the GT35 to get to 340rwkw or much near it.

hahahaha top call ant...love it!

will be good to see it all running and back on the road again!

i will call aorund one time so i can have a look in person...and u can check over those few things on my liner!

Catchya later dude!

Cheers

Matt

My point was to question why you bothered to put those mods down in the list when the topic was about how much power to expect...

he has posted the list in a few different places obviously so he just cut and paste it..... :D

OH i didn't see the twins comment.

IMO go back to twin GTSS or -7's.

You'll make 330rwkw like everyone else has been able too, and it'll be as responsive as the stocker setup

Im bias to twins now ive seen so many banger setups and nothing in a single that matches it.

Standard cams

.82 & 1.06 housings ceramic coated

Hiya, sounds like quite a neat build - though I'm not sure why you'd go to so much effort and stick with the stock cams, I'm not entirely sure if or how much that may conspire against you in going for your power goal. Which turbine housing are you running on it, the .82 or the 1.06??

Also I'm not sure what dyno you will be running on, some of the aggressively low reading dynos over there you may struggle to get that out of a GT3082R though 340kw SHOULD be achieveable on most I'd imagine though no matter what you will be pushing the higher end of what a GT3082R can do. I know someone over here (NZ) running one on his RB25DET R32 GTSt and on slicks he has run 10.1 with a small shot of NOS.

The build has cost me so much $$$ that buying cams now is just not an option (have a mortage to pay off too not easy on apprentice wage) it would be great but impossible rite now, we will be putting cams in later though its the only thing this build does not have. The turbo has the 106 on it now and we'll run with the atm to get peak power out of this setup but if it deems to laggy we will put the 82 back on..

Well my personal opinion/what I would do in your position would be run with the .82a/r with the stock cams and pour a bunch of boost into it make the most of it being a punchy set up. Regardless of how much power it makes, it will be quite punchy though you probably won't have the full top end monster you could have. I reckon it could be quite a fun car though :D

If I remember rightly the .82a/r GT30 turbine side has very similar exhaust flow to a .63 GT35R, and runs exactly the same compressor housing and wheel - so I can't see why it'd not do anything a .63a/r GT3582R would do, maybe SLIGHTLY less flow and better response. Its when you start getting into .82a/r and 1.06a/r GT3582Rs where you will start losing out in my opinion, I'm no expert though haha.

If you intend on later on down the track upgrading cams etc, then you'll have a good idea of if the GT30 turbo is going to be sufficient - going GT2860s or GT2530s would probably be a waste when you already have the turbo and don't have the cams to really justify the extra flow up top. Again, only my opinion.

now that you mention it I think that we'll go with the 82 housing, this is suppose to be a street car after all + its in a r33 gtst so im thinking traction will be a problem but nothing toyo tyres cant fix lol.. Plus the twins are harder to work on if needed and the sigle just simplifies things..

I think that'd probably be the way I'd go, especially if you have it in a RWD - I think lack of power isn't going to be your biggest problem ;) For interests sake, if I read it correctly the 1.06a/r GT30 turbine actually flows better than a .82a/r GT35 turbine, and if that is correct and I am not missing something else (which is entirely possible) then using the 1.06a/r you will actually be able to make more power at higher boost than the typical .82a/r GT3582R. Given that the GT design is fairly well suited to bigger a/r housings, and that there is less rotating mass, it makes me wonder if you could end up with a combination almost capable of making similar power AND better response to with a GT35R.

I hope Discopotato03 finds this, and enlightens... or shares an opinion

Prove it

All posts in the RB26 upgrade thread beg to argue the fact far as ive seen it

There is only one GT3040R in that thread which I have seen, and it was making ~300kw @ wheels with stock fuel system - the guy never came back (that I am aware of) with a result using the 555cc injectors he promised. Do you know of any others? I know people making well over 300rwkw with GT3076Rs on RB25s, so presumably people would make even more on GT3082Rs.

    • I'd be curious to hear more. Otherwise, have you driven a modern x-trail? I wonder how it compares. Here in Australia they are/were popular for rentals and fleet vehicles. I have been in some and my impression was they are bad. But, this may have been very different in the 2000s at a good trim level. Twenty years is plenty of time to make the model worse. I do very much agree with the 2 silver cars in the garage approach. But, not driving because it's too hot would not leave a lot of time in the year for many Australians. I don't think you need to worry too much unless the car has actual issues with overheating.
    • Back again. I returned to Japan in Jul/Aug to spend time with the car on my birthday and remind myself what all the sacrifice and compromise is for. It happened to line up with the monthly morning meet in Okutama, which I have been wanting to go to for a long time. It's a unique event at a unique spot with really rare, interesting, and quirky cars. It's where all the oldheads and OGs gather. The nighttime scene at DKF certainly has its place and should be experienced if you're into cars, but there's too much bad attention and negativity around it now. IMO the better time is Sunday morning at DKF or Okutama; it's more chill and relaxed. I'm glad I was finally able to go, but not sure it's worth the drive from all the way from Nagoya immediately the day before, unless I was already staying in Tokyo for the days right before the meet, because you have to wake up quite early to make it in time. Funnily enough though I didn't drive the car all that much this trip because it was just too damn hot. While there were zero issues and running temps were nominal and the A/C was strong, RBs already run crazy hot as it is. Sure, it took it all like a champ but something about driving these cars in the ridiculous heat/humidity bothers me and makes me feel like I'm asking too much of it. I'm just me being weird and treating the car like a living thing with feelings; I'm mechanically sympathetic to a fault. Instead I was mainly driving something else around - a KX4(silver) 2001 X-Trail GT, that I acquired in May. There's a few different flavors to choose from with Xs, but visually it's the Nissan version of the Honda CR-V. Mechanically it's a whole different story as this, being the top-trim GT, has an SR20VET mated to a four-speed auto and full-time AWD! It was a very affordable buy in exceptional condition inside and out, with very low mileage...only 48k kms. Most likely it was owned by an older person who kept it garaged and well-maintained, so I'm really happy with how it all worked out. It literally needs zero attention at the moment, albeit except for some minor visual touch-ups. I wanted something quirky, interesting, and practical and for sure it handily delivers on all three of those aspects. I was immediately able to utilize the cargo and passenger capacity to its full extent. It's a lot of fun to drive and is quite punchy through 1st and 2nd. It's very unassuming -in the twisty bits it's a lot more composed than one would think at a glance- and it'll be even better once I get better tires on it(yes, it's an SUV but still a little boat-y for my liking). So...now I have two golden-era Nissans in silver. One sports car and one that does everything else; the perfect two-car solution I think👍 The rest of the trip...I was able to turn my stressed brain off and enjoy it, although I didn't quite get to do as much as I thought. I did some interesting things, met some interesting people, and happened into some interesting situations however, that's all for another post though only if people really want to know. Project-wise, I went back to Mine's again to discuss more plans and am hoping to wrap that up real soon; keep watching this space if that interests you. Additionally, while working in the tormenting sweatbox that is the warehouse, I was able to organize most of the myriad of parts that my friend is storing for me along with the cars, and the 34 has a nice little spot carved out for it: And since it can get so stupid hot in there, that made it all the more easy -after I was standing there looking at the car and said 'f**k it'- to finally remove all the damn gauges that have mostly been an eyesore all this time. Huzzah. The heat basically makes the adhesive backing on the gauge mounts more pliable to work with, so it was far less stressful getting this done. I didn't fully clean it up or chase the wiring though; that will happen once I have the car in closer possession. Another major reason to remove all that stuff is to give people less reasons to get in my car and steal s**t while it's being exported/imported when/if the time comes, which leads us to my next point... ...and that is even though it's time in Japan is technically almost up since it's a November car and the X would be coming in March, I'm still not entirely sure where my life and career is headed; I don't really know what the future looks like and where I'm going to end up. I feel there's a great deal of uncertainty with me and as a result of that, it feels like I'm at a crossroads moreso now than any point in my life thus far and there are some choices I need to make. Yes, I've had some years to consider things and prepare myself, however too much has happened in that time to maintain confidence and everything feels so up in the air; tenuous one might say. Simply put, there's just too much nonsense going on right now from multiple vectors. Admittedly, I'm struggling to stay in the game and keep my eyes on the prize. So much so in fact, that very recently I came the closest I ever have before to calling it quits outright; selling everything and moving on and not looking back. The astute among you will pick up on key subtext within this paragraph. In the meantime I've still managed to slowly acquire some final bits for the car, but it feels nice knowing there's not much left to get and I'm almost across that finish line; I have almost everything I'll ever want for my interpretation and expression on what it is I think an R34 should be. 'til later.
    • Thanks for that, hadn’t used my brain enough to think about that.
    • Also playing with fire if they start to flow more air down low than what the stock twins can. It's not even up top you need to worry, it can be at 3000rpm and part throttle and it's getting way more flow than it should.
    • Any G40/1000 or G40/1250 results out there?
