2 1/2 WEEEEEEKS HEY???, r u serious?

call any Nissan dealer and ask them for the (solenoid shift kit) and how long will it take to get it delivered and they will tell u the next day

i ordered it on wednesday 23/07 i recived it at my work place on thursday 24/07 around 1pm ....

Dylan, how many Ks have ur car done so far? and wat power figures does it have?

Just done 100k, I had the 100kmajor service done when it was 90k and they told me the auto was nearly shagged then. The guys said it wasn't standard solenoids, originally he said they would have them the next day and they would be $400, then when they pulled the box out they turned out to be different and needed to come from Japan for $750. I'll ask him more about that when I pick it up.

No idea about power, couple of small mods, HKS intercoolerand pod filter, manual boost controller at about .7bar (10ish psi I think) SAFCII controller. All goes prety bloody good for the dollars spent (smokes XR8's no probs lol, but what doesn't :P )

Cheers,

Dylan

ok read all these posts, as im young and fairly new to all this, i wouldent have a clue about fitting new solonoids and stuff myself does any1 have info on any1 in melbourne that can do this for me ? if so would the labour be the price issue coz 800 for the noid kit... and i read how much u gota do to get to these noids seems like a big job.. would a manual conversion be more reasonable. ? or is that probly the worst idea.. ?

whats it mean when i put my foot flat and it wont change out of 1 gear and till its hit rev limter and then it changes?

also when its in tiptronic mode and im using the stearing wheel to change gears there is major lag between gears is that normal ?

I just had my ECU re tuned and power upped to around 190rwkw, long story short, i did this in Brisbane and had to drive to Sydney the following day, so off I go and i notice the car is revving high (4 grand at 100km/h), further investigation finds that i no longer have fourth gear (1st, 2nd, 3rd all okay).

Call up the workshop and apparentley it's the ECU, so it's getting redone down here (for free :) ) and hopefully should have 4th back. Just FYI, fuel economy dosen't exist from Brisbane To Sydney in 3rd gear, at all, lol.

Next is stage 3 shift kit and 3 grand stall converter as the power will be going upwards to 260rwkw soon, so hopefully the auto will be fine with that amount of power. If anyone has experiences with the auto at those power levels please let me know.

Just been reading some of your R34 Tiptronic threads...

I've had problems with my R34 box for nearly 2 years now, initially showing as Line Pressure Solenoid on diagnostics, and causing very harsh gearchanges. The car has done around 100,000km with the last 40,000 being with me, so pretty harsh!!

I put in new solenoids myself. No benefit.

I swapped engine ECU's. No benefit.

I replaced the gearbox ECU. No benefit.

I put in a replacement gearbox myself. No benefit.

I did electrical tests and found throttle position sensor was very slightly dodgy.

Installed new throttle position sensor... and problem CURED!

Installed bigger turbo and re-mapped standard ECU, giving 400hp, but whilst on rolling road it threw

another gearbox problem which eventually was cured by a new ballast resistor (down near battery).

Since putting some miles on it, the gearbox is coping fine (has a larger cooler now) apart from it's 1st to 2nd change which is now way to slow for the increased power (slams into rev limiter)... Recently, these changes can sometimes cause it to default into limp-home mode (which involves an ignition on-off to reset).

So whilst seeking out others peoples ideas on speeding the 1st-2nd change (I'm thinking of putting a switch into the Line Pressure Solenoid wire to give me full pressure changes, unless I can 'teach' it to change quicker???) what i'm trying to say is...

Don't always rely on the diagnostics... I could have saved many hours of changing gearboxes, solenoids etc. by trying the cheaper easier options first!

Just a final update,

They had so many bloody problems and couldn't work it out, apparently the ecu blew a chip or something then they couldn't get it repaired so replaced it, had heaps of trouble finding a tiptronic ecu for the r34.

Eventually got one but then they tried to tell me it was fixed, but I took it for a drive and said no way was I taking that, it slipped so bad from about 4000 to 6000 just to change 1st to 2nd at about 3/4 throttle, he said oh we didn't know how hard you would drive it! I said that's not hard that's only 3/4 throttle.

Long story short, they bought another box, rebuilt it with all the goodies that mine was meant to get then put it in, no probs now! Bad thing is they charged me about $1400 extra for all the ecu drama's (repaired twice and a second hand one as well.) so it cost $4600 instead of $3200, but happy to have her back again after 2 month away.

Guys,

Very interesting.

I just had a phone discussion with M V Automatics in SA.

Michael from MVA says that this is a common problem, and they have been removing the fault shift solenoid and rewiring it for around $150.

Time to dig further and see who else can do this.

Regards

Jim (TR34GT)

How did you go with getting this fixed mate? can you fill us in with price and exactly what has been fixed? thanks a bunch!

Ohh, spewing, totally didn't think of calling Mike!

I called everrybloody auto, highperformance, skyline specialist shop in south east qld! Oh well, hope everybody else remembers mike when they have an auto problem, the new shift kit isn't aas nice as his was either, but atleast the box is going well now.

Cheers,

Dylan.

i've read through the whole thread. not too sure whats going on. just installed my 2800/3000rpm hi-stall and stage 2 shift kit (both from mike at MVA) today at knox automatics. and once they were installed this A/T light popped up and also lost 1st,2nd and 4th. diagnostics popped up as solnoid A, but when michael had a look at it, he reckons it seems alright. any help would be great.

i took mine to knox when i went into limp mode.

they guessed it was the solenoid's $600bucks. didn't fall for it. took it else where.

put the a stage 1 shift kit in, with a service. drove it . worked fine. but was slipping. gearbox was just worn.

got the whole box rebuilt to stage 2. solenoids still fine ... who know's with these things lol

i took my car to techtrans, a place in hoppers crossing michael from knox automatic recommended to me cause its alot closer to where i am. they said its the solenoid. luckily i bought a spare gearbox which i used to take the valvebody and stall from, saving my car off the road while it all get done. so now i have spare solenoids. hopefully this is the problem and have my car back on the road early next week

When u said it would take 1 day or 2 weeks or even 1 month. It depens on the delivery periods. Let say I am a delivery man. I do my delivery job from Japan to Australia every 2 weeks. Therefore the dates that I arrived to Australia with the goods would be e.g 1/01/2009, 15/01/2009 and 29/01 and so on. If u order one on the 22/01/09 I would tell u that u will get ur item in one week's time. If someone else order 5 days later after you, i would tell them that they would get their item within the next 2 days. U get the idea? so yeah it depens.

Btw i have the same problem with my car (R34GT). I just bought the car about a month ago and the dealer gave me a 3 months warranty and therefore he will fix my car for free

So he picked up the phone and called someone (dont know who) but he said he ordered one for my car and said he will give me a call once that kit has arrived. Though he mentioned it would probably takes one week also and surely i wont get my car fixed until next week because of the coming Easter.

Note: When he was ordering the Solenoid the person on the other side asked for the MODEL CODES of my car, and he gave it to the person.

Ill let u all know once my car gets fixed. Oh and I will ask him how much did it cost him to get one from Japan. Hope he will tell.

Cheers guys!

Regards

Charlie

There is a place in Dandenong called Pro Automatic Pty Ltd.

Give them a call and ask how much would it cost?

Here is the number (03) 97915427

Good Luck!

Is it a GTt or 25GT?

Have the solenoids been replaced with brand new items or tested ones? The reason I ask is the ones out of my old car that were dodgy always worked fine at room temp, tested fine etc etc, but when at operating temp they went open-circuit and threw the code.

When the ENG A/T CONTROL fuses go, lots of funny things happen, nerver seen it throw a solenoid code, normally just makes the car stall and drive like shit.

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
