i got harrassed once

couldn't believe it, I was doing nothing wrong.... all i was doing was going 90 in a 60 zone on bald semi slicks in a low car, with modifications

I swear i was doing nothing wrong.

This is a useless post and something that we are trying to cut down on..as per the new rules

Do you have a better experience or could you stay on topic?

We get picked on cause the cops know the car in the area..

The cop has stated the defects that we have had going back as far as January last year all from his police car.

So yes they can just pull up your records at any given time if they want too :)

ok sorry. *serious face*

yes i do. the good news is, I didn't get busted for it.

Well If I was a cop and I had pulled over a car who had foam spray painted black as a pod enclosure, Yes I would pull them over again.

Just because some of you haven't been unfairly harrassed doesn't mean its a non issue.

I happened to be parked at a lookout with a friend of mine (he had his 34 there)

Both cars were off, we were just hanging out with another friend.

A highway patrol car turns up and 2 coppas got out. They asked both of us to start our cars, rev them etc (to check if the exhaust is too loud)

They then went through the engine bays of both cars questioning various things trying to find a defect. Eventually they concluded that the cars were fine. Instead of just leaving, they told us to leave the area.

It was a public lookout with picnic tables and all, we weren't being fined or charged with anything and yet they told us to clear off. To me, that is harrassment. We were nothing but polite to them and did everything they asked, so why did we get told to leave?

The cops aren't perfect no matter what some of you seem to blindly think.

Not 100% certain, but I don't think they can make you unlock a locked car without being under arrest... But the whole, it's not mine officer, works pretty well, until you have to leave :)

Sorry wrong car..and bit silly seeing cops dont have exray vision!

I was a general statement.

If you had pulled over a car that had defects and then cleared them wouldn't you obviously check them again.

Most people don't learn the first time and just keep repeating their mistakes.

you and your friend were hanging out at a lookout?

together?

in my day, lookouts were for fornicating.

that's why you were told to leave the area.

you were taking up fornication space while not fornicating..

or... were you?

Hahaha nah mate ;) Was just me and 2 friends hanging out admiring our cars.

I know your suposed to follow police directions if they ask you to leave an area, but surely they need a decent reason before just asking people to move off from a public location when they are found to be obeying all laws?

Whats with being a bitch????

There is appropriate materials around to do such a job with, temporary or permanant.

I do however agree that most people dont learn from the first experiance (myself included)

But apparently my welded in full cage with intrusion bars is legal if its got thin padding.......

Yet from a legal point the entire front half is illegal and the rear must comply with several rules.

Honestly the rules are a joke (yes I deal with the rules daily) and if you talk to anyone else who deals with them they will all agree unless they are a tree hugger or RTA inspector.

Engineers reports themselves are bordering on a joke but worth while having for the majority of modifications.

All the ADR's can be purchased annually on disc and the appropriate suplimentries are sent to you as they are released.

There is no rules that mention Pod filters directly. There are ADR's that relate to inlet tracts etc which obviously your pod must comply to. Same goes for exhaust systems, ring hitech mufflers and ask them about the extensive testing it takes to meet ALL ADR's and it will become very clear why just about anything other than standard is illegal.

I'm not being a bitch, it's common sense.

I would maybe contact the RTA about the cage. There seems to be a lot of different people saying it is legal and others that say is isn't.

The front half is always and has always been illegal. Be it through the dash (in my case) or around the dash (like jap bolt in kits)

The rear half just needs to comply. Seat/s removed, any restraints including child restraints removed, the upper most support must not protrude forward of the front seats head rests (cant be any way to wack your head on the hoop) Mountings must not fowl original structure etc etc.

We engineer cages almost every day so the rules are pretty clear cut according to the RTA but not to the police. Which is a shame......

Same can really be said about aftermarket seats.

On topic, as far as im aware the police can't view the details of your prior defects but can check the rego and see everything else.

I was told this by my "mate" a week ago who keeps defecting my car.

Actually thinking back you had the pleasure of meeting him in the caltex servo once or twice corinne.

Surely they would have everything on computer.

I don't remember, sorry.

No from what he explained they can see when/where etc but not the actual items you have been defected for. I guess it would be a faily laborious task for someone to list and attatch every defect item to a particular vehicle so they just list the defect notice number.

He knew exactly what he did me for anyhow, If I remember rightly I was filling the car up when he pulled in behind.

That time I was sent to the DECC inspection station on waminda avenue or what ever its called but ended up getting it all sorted.

Last time was the EPA and DECC which was not hard to sort out either.

You dont have to be with the vehicle either, and if they ask you to open the bonnet or the car just do it. Your only going to get a letter in the mail saying you have been requested to present the vehicle for a randon full RTA and EPA inspection at one of the relevant RTA's

That is not a defect its mearly a f**k you get the car inspected cause we know its illegal, and if it doesnt pass your rego is now canned.

Yes I've been there and done that before as well. An old neihbour complained I got a letter, Car was parked I was not around it, week latter I got a letter. You can be defected in a car park or private property IF the police have proof the vehicle was driven to that particular destination via public roads in the condition they found it in.

Again, I got done in my driveway. They had me on video driving the car up the road and parking it, then they also had the entire defect process on tape. How can I argue I didnt drive it with a loud exhaust when they have me driving it on the road on video?

More recently I had the car running with the side pipes fitted, full slicks etc etc. New neihbour complained and the cops arrived. It was in my drive way and during the day, the neihbour was questioned had I driven the vehicle on the road like this? He obviously told the truth and said no just that it was very noisy and had been running in the driveway for a while, they got the same story from me and the police could not touch the vehicle even though it has full registration.

    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.

    • Unsolicited advice? Keep the engine as close to stock as you can. Nothing wrong with adding some boost and making a little more power, but given where you are, you really don't want to try to make it into a monster. I can't imagine the roads are up to it, and the lack of locla support when it grenades will be a ball ache. FWIW, If there is a dyno around that you can access, then brand new injectors are a good idea, which will lead you to (at least) putting a Nistune in it, which will allow you to put an R35 AFM on it, all of which will make it possible to make it much much nicer to drive and live with.
