Where was that thread we had... well i think we had... for numebrs or contacts for interstate shipping? I cant find it.

My dad just bought a custom 74 Chevy Pickup in QLD and we wanna ship it down etc.

I just had my car shipped from Melbourne to Gold Coast. When shopping around, I found the rates for Melbourne - Brisbane were the same or a bit cheaper than Melbourne - Gold Coast. All of the Transporters go straight to Brisbane and then they truck the cars back down to the gold coast.

The best rate I could find was $715 Incl GST with CEVA Logistics (ex TNT). The car has to be 6 inches high all the way around (so we had to jack the car up a bit at the back). It took 6 working days, I dropped it off last Tuesday and it arrived two days ago. I was really happy with them, their was also a Lotus Exige on the truck with my car. You should also ask them about putting the Chev in a container, rather then on an open transporter which they can do aswell. They also have enclosed transporters which would be a good option for you.

Ceva's number is: 13 22 77

If you're interested in an enclosed motorsport carrier (which is usually better for classic/restored cars), try Alans Unique Car Carriers they use enclosed Motorsport transporters, they quoted me $1450 from Melbourne to Gold Coast. This is a prestige service, they only ever take three cars on the motorsport carrier, so it's all quality.

Alans Unique Car Carriers number is: 0418 226 696

I also got quotes from other carriers like www.movingcars.com.au

They basically get the best rate from all the carriers and then book it in for you, I found them quite competitive but not as good as Ceva.

I also found the rates for the standard open carriers with major transport companies varied between $715 - $1000 incl GST, depending on who you call.

Oh and I booked Lil Blu on a depot to depot drop, which means I dropped her off at the Transport company office in Melbourne and picked her up from the transport company office on the gold coast. It costs more to get depot to house deliveries or house to house deliveries.

Lil Blu is loving it up here! So am I, it's sooo sunny! :D

lol

i meant that if u want to transport ur car, cheapest way

hire truck do it by urself

pick the cheapest company with insurance (all should have it) than if u can ask some one to cover ur car with car cover. my bro had a boat cover and it was just fine, will protect ur car on the road

hope its better eng

ahahaha i was trying to decipher it too Juz...

much clearer now thanks Ash :D dunno though... take about a week to get there and back otherwise it would be too hard to find a truck one way. Worth a look tho.

Thanks for that Juz... gives dad a few good options.

Rates Mel - Bris are always higher than Bris - Mel. There are very few return loads Bris - Mel, so they are happy for any $$$ they can get.

And Ni is looking at Bris - Mel, if I read it correctly.

That would have to be the worst way to deliver a car from BRISBANE to MELBOURNE.

Not only will the cover damage the paint work on a long trip like that but I doubt the cover will still be on the car after after 1km of driving....

Your better off getting the cheapest mob to do it, either way the car will get damaged....

lol yeah right dezz... its ok dad found a company (no idea who) who can do it for 650 and its insured if anything goes wrong... hopefully it tips off and gets written off so he can come to his senses and buy something that isnt as ugly as horseballs on a kitten

    • Possibly avoid using a Cometic one unless the deck/head surface are perfectly flat. I did have a look just then and forgiving gaskets such as Tomei or Nitto don't exist for the FJ20, however the Bar-Tek or Kameari ones look good and might do the trick.
    • Because pipe threads for pipe things. M threads for bolt things. Throw some teflon sealant onto it and dust your hands off knowing you did the right thing, instead of going twice around the block to achieve a result using the wrong things. Of course, all of these solutions are ignoring the fact that the minimum thread pitch we're talking about here is 1.25mm, with the 1/4" in NPT or BPS being out around 1.4mm. You will need to know that the boss you're tapping has enough thickness for at least a few threads. That's one of the reasons that 1/8" is commonly used - because the pitch is <1mm. And why would you look to use 1/4" NPT in a BSP country anyway? Ugh.
    • Just throwing around ideas, does it need to be in the compressor cover? Why not the hot side piping?
    • 1/8NPT drill size = 8.7mm. Since the hole got messed up by me, it’s probably around 9mm.    So 1/4” NPT would be next step. A drill size of around 11mm would be preferred there which is not way of my M12 (drill 10.5mm and tap M12 threads)
