Hey guys

how are you all?

Just a question - My Battery in my skyline has just died (it's a japense small battery unit). i have looked every where but it seems to be not available in Australia. The issue that i am faced with is that if i get a bigger battery the terminal arms will not reach the terminal (May have been modified .. not sure) and i dont want to wined up with a battery that want have enough power for the skyline. Would i have to modify the arms or are there batties out the that are specialy made for the R33..

Pain in the ass to find them, you can actually trim the terminals to fit any battery with a razor or visit jaycar and buy new terminals.

Alternatively ring Joel at excite autos, Im pretty sure he can help out. Hes sells car and does servicing but seems to stock batteries. www.excitedautos.com.au I think otherwise pm me if you want his mobile.

hes in castle hill

To DIF's comment more often than not the supercheap book will have up to perhaps 89 skylines as in r31 and no more :bunny: Check the company website and I think I picked up mine at bob janes.... edgecliff they had one left

I replaced my battery few months ago, and it didnt need any modifications.

Was slightly bigger than the original one.

Didnt have to take the rear struct brace bar off either.

got mine from www.sspi.com.au

Give them a call on monday :)

Get larger terminals and replace the old stock ones. Might as well while you are at it replace the wires for the battery. Perhaps move the ground wire to a better ground (as the stock position isnt very good, can cause alternator whine).

ps. Try and get a sealed battery for the R33's since by default they are in the boot. I think it's technically illegal to have a standard non sealed battery if it's in the boot (Aust. standards). Due to the normal acid fumes which can cause an explosion if a spark occurs. (though the std breather pipe should do the trick) *shrugs

The books I keep seeing have 32's & 33's

I obviously goto dodgy repcos.. but they ussually have nothing I want so perhaps your right.

I actually found a up to date book at big w .. go figure.

Ya I'm not a big fan of repco.. Supercheap usually have a few more things but they are all full of people who don't really have a lot of knowledge of the products or what you are talking about >.<

As baron said Kmart aren't to bad for batteries.. they are usually cheap too..

The battery I bought from supercheap bosch gold battery I keep having bad experiences with.

1st one leaked - returned & swapped

2nd one died and wouldn't hold charge - returned & swapped

so I'm onto the 3rd one in less then 12 months.. As soon as the warrenty runs out.. *pending on when this one dies* I think I will be swapping brands.

My original one just died the other week too, went to the Battery Factory and they changed it in about 10mins cost about $120

I had mine replaced for my 33 boat just over 2 months back - NRMA had to come out and replace it with a new one, all good with me, no special battery for me!

I called them too cos it was completely flat so I couldn't drive anywhere... was told they're not allowed to change them in Skylines anymore (or any car where it's in the boot) !!!

He even had to call his boss to make sure he was allowed to jump start me :)

shell, you do know the jump point for 33s is in the engine bay right? not directly onto the battery. they have special little teminals in the engine bay for easy jump starts. :)

    • I see, honestly I’m not too fussed about the looks. The only reason to go plenum is to make the piping easier instead of the classic over the rad etc.
    • Not easy to quantify wrt something like how many fractions of a second slower it would be over 0-100. But given that a 250-300rwkW car is able to do that launch sprint in 5-6 sec (and faster with appropriate tyres, and surface)..... giving up as much as a second would feel like torture. A ~450HP capable turbo is not going to make lots of boost in the 2000-3000 rpm range. So, whilst with some boost on hand it will be faster accelerating in that rev range than your engine currently is NA, it will not feel like a fast car until the boost is solidly in. You know what your car feels like right now when you open it up at 2000rpm. if you've ever been in an actual fast car, you will appreciate that the NARB25 is.... not exciting. Well, add some boost and it will be better. But shorten the intake runners and it might not be better at all. It might come out better, but it could end up feeling the same. For me, it's not the 0-X km/h sprints that matter. It is easy to fry the tyres with anything over 200 rwkW. You can't use all the power available in 1st and 2nd anyway, you have to modulate the throttle. What matters is how the car reacts when you're driving in traffic in 4th or 5th and have maybe 2000 rpm on board, and you want/need to add some speed quickly, and don't have time for the downshift. It won't make boost, it will be all NA (at the speeds we're talking about - remember how fast you're going at 2000 in 4th! and don't plan on breaking the limit by too much.) So giving away NA torque is not what I would consider practical for a street car. And retaining that NA torque builds boost faster which makes the car faster. The flashy plenum is not actually better, unless you're looking at a track car where you can keep it on the boil all the time.
    • So how much difference does it make you think? Like 1 second in the 0-100?  I was have smaller turbo so hopefully that spools quick GTX2871.  currently it’s NA so you can imagine pretty slow, but I do want fast accusation a little as there’s not many places I’ll be driving where I go over 80 even near me. So 0-60 and 0-80 targets
    • Short inlet runners cost quite a bit. Dulls off the off-boost torque, and delays boost onset, because arrival of boost is driven by gas flow is a product of the ability to flow air which is torque. This is the reason that the stock manifolds have longer runners. On a 3L, or bigger, you can usually accept the compromise of giving away some torque because the extra capacity gives you a little extra to waste. But on a smaller motor, there's not a lot there to start with. Example, I swapped RB20 out of my R32, 25NeoDET in its place. The "wall of torque" that I experienced afterwards made it all worthwhile. That's because I came from RB20 land where torque is not a thing. But I would not do anything, anything at all, to reduce the low/mid torque I have now, because I remember what it is like to not have it!
    • Really, low/midrange torque goes really bad?? I want decent acceleration, maybe I use a stock rb25det neo manifold?
