Hey there,

Currently in the middle of converting my R32 GTST from a peice of crap auto to a manual..

The spare motor and box are mounted finally in the car, pedal box is it.. only one thing im stuck on

WIRING!

in terms of wiring what do I need to change if anything? I am uncertain what I need to do in terms of the plugs on the gearbox, I am guessing one is a reverse switch and one is a speed sensor for 180 speed cut?? no idea I am just guessing..

what do people tend to do in doing this swap? I have allready put in the ECU from the manual car I had, the pinouts look the same alltho just hte number on the front of the ecu is different.. also I removed the computer on the drivers side footwell, I asumed that was a auto box computer? I also removed the SHIFTLOCK box under the dash, looked like the unit that makes the beeping in reverse.

if anyone has done this conversion PLEASE let me know as I would like to know what you did in converting it. I really want to know what I need to do with the wiring side of it in terms of what needs to be swapped.

Dan

iv been having a read up on this and it appears I need to bridge the inhibitor and splice the reverse switch out of the auto loom that went to auto gb.. but that also leaves a couple of things i need to clarify..

does this mean I have to use the Auto ecu? does the computer in the drivers footwell have to stay there?

yeh some help on this issue would be great as the only threads I could find were from 2005 & 2006 and doesnt look like the members I need to ask are still around :D

bahh ur all useless :D hehe jus kidn

so no ideas then on what I am to do with the ecu and the lil box in the drivers foot well?

is the lil box ur talking about the thing that makes the beep beep noises when u are reversing? on r33's and r34's its over near the pedal box

use the manual ecu if u have it, i have done the conversion on a r33 b4 and kept the auto ecu and it worked fine

I sent a pm to another member here and he said the lil box I am talkn about is the Hicus computer.. guess il be leavn that one in :D

What I am going to do now is basically run the car with the auto ecu in stock form and see if it runs after the inhibitor is bridged.. then I will put in the manual ECU and see if it still runs, if it does tops! then after thats all clarified I will wire in the AFC II from teh manual loom into the auto loom which is identical for wires i need anyway..

Il be running a R33 Turbo, Auto Diff Centre, hks fmic, boost controller, AFCII, 5zigen exhaust system with split dump, along with some other things to make the thing stick to the road and stop like a star so hopefully I might crack 245-250rwhp from it after I am done..

ok, so the you do need to cut a few wires to make it work, the front sensor fromt he bell houseing should b 2 wires coming off it, check at thew back of the car what colour the 2 reverse lights colours are, and find the next to the fuse box in the engine bay, cut them (what ever colour they might be) and the join those 2 wires to the wires on the front bell housing (make sense) if u have them round the wrong way its no big deal, it just means your car reverse lights will be on in nuetral, as for been able to start your car, you need to make your car think its in park, so same place next to the fuse box, there should be 2 wires (these wires are normally fatter than the other wires, i think one is black with a white stripe and the other is black with a yellow stripe, but they are fatter so tis hard to miss, cut those 2 wires and join them together and your car wills tart with the key,

hope that helps, i only connected the reverse lights in a laurel so colour might be different

Cheers JV

pretty sure i found hte wire i need.. its a solid light green and a black on the auto loom, i chopped the solid green wire and green with white stripe off the manual box and i hooked it up so hopefully it works, i have to get car back togethjer to check.. i managed to ping the green and black and also a red which i asume is a comon power wire from the fuse box to the reverse globe in the rear of the car.. hopefully it works

the reverse is the one closest to belhousing correct? what is the second one on the manual box then? do i need it?

reverse lights are workn sweet..

Manual ECU is plug and play... i still had to bridge the inhibitor tho even with manual ECU.. was easy enough to do

car is back together and running altho its missing, sounds like its almost missing a cyl sorta, its same with both ecu's. the motor i put in hasnt been used for almost 12 months so im going to swap over the spark plugs, coils and ignitor on monday from the motor that came out of the car and see if that fixes it..

also my headlights arnt working and combo switch aint working so i must of missed a wire somewhere... park lights work tho LOL

but dam the car is lookn and soundn fat

Are you going to hook up the neutral switch?

It is needed if you still have hicas and possibly affects some other systems.

Here is my reply from 2005 to a similar Q about reverse lights in auto > manual conversion

Both switches are on the drivers side of the box and look the same.

The rear one is the neutral switch and the front one is reverse.

I posted a thread on how to wire these.

Of the wires that went to the auto box the green wire and the thinner of the two black wires are for the reverse switch and the white and the same black wire are for the neutral switch.

They all plug into the cluster of connectors mounted on the side of the fusebox under the bonnet.

Just make sure the right wires are hooked up to the right switch.

Sorry I couldn't find my earlier thread that comprehensively covered this.

    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
