On an R33 the lower part of the reo covers half of the cooler, as does the front bar (S1) . The reason for cutting is to optomise air flow into the core.

yeh but with a standard bar the bar covers the reo anyway so there is no point in cuting it

wether you cut the reo or leave it the bar will block the airflow for where you have cut the reo

so it makes no difference

the only reason you would need to cut the reo if you had an aftermarket bar witha massive vent at the front and you would see the reo

but then your risking strength for appearance for looks, either way its your decision

Just got the JJ cooler today looks very awesome, cant wait to install it tommorrow should be alot of fun. But i guess talk to me tommrrow when im cursing and my opptomisim has gone.

Still i must say the kit looks Great and im glad i didnt buy a cheapo $180 one off Ebay.

I have to say the guys at Just Jap are awsome and their customer service is 10/10

Sorta... Here's a picture of abu's car with a FMIC kit which goes through standard piping holes. Hope he doesn't mind. :kiss:

lol someone be tripping... It looks the same as any other intercooler.

It has a core, it has two end tanks and two outlets going off to the two sets off pipe down

The rest is covered up by a front bar, unless your a west-spec muppet and run around with no front bumper, because hey, thats cool too

Id imagine choice of front bar would dictate many factors, cant have a kit that works with everything

reckon this front bumper would have more room to avoid cutting? i guess i have more room down low, but yeah, as others have said... it would mean the pipes would be out of whack then i guess...

if i mounted it lower, would that mean i'd have to weld like an extension to the end of the pipes going to the stock positions? i reckon i could get an exhaust shop to do that

With that bar, I would assume that the reinforcement bar would need cutting if you're using the standard GTT reo bar. You could probably use a GTR bar, but how often do they come by...

yeah, standard GTT reo. So really, it doesn't particularly matter what front bumper it is, it's the reo that's the problem??

would a bit of fiddling with the end of the pipes (where they go to the stock airbox, etc) allow a position whereby the FMIC is NOT touching the reo??

It's just that when you get an after market bar, you'll have to chop the reinforcement bar for it to fit tightly and look good. The part I circled would be thinner than what the reinforcement bar really is so you would cut the reo bar so that you won't see it. Hope that made sense. :P

I'm not too sure about the 34's, but in my 32, there were no problems with the reinforcement bar so I can't really say about adjusting pipes, etc.

nothing was cut when i got the front bumper put on?? genuine plastic east bear bumper, maybe why it was a perfect fit...

So it looks like this guy has removed his reo bar

Just taking a stab, but if your FMIC was hitting the reo, looking at this pic, could you just fabricate up another bracket to make it sit lower??

Hrmm, after taking a look at the installation steps for installing a FMIC kit on an R33 in the link below, most of the cutting would be for air flow. The little chop he did was for clearance, but I reckon you would be able to just 'tilt' the core back so that it clears. I think that's how I would've installed mine. Bend the piping around so that you can just tilt the intercooler back to have it not touching the reo bar.

If you've got the front bar you're happy with then I don't see a problem with the reo bar when fitting an FMIC at all.

Fark having NO reo. This is a pic of my setup. It is not a cooling pro kit, but the same style. I used a HKS cooler and BLITZ pluming. I had to mod the cooler by welding on a cast bend.

I have done exactly the same thing with my reo (well bought a second hand one to mod so i still have my original)

This is one of the Blitz LM kits that use the stock piping (returns to the passenger side)

then with some serious cutting to the front bar it fitted up quite nice

If you didnt want to cut out the center part of the reo with this cooler there was still some slight etching out of the reo required so that it wouldn't hit the end tanks.

got the cooler on then went to put all the piping on and cut the hole in the guard and i can tell you now its a absolute prick the holesaw i bought is tottaly sh!t house and wouldnt cut butter, so dam anoyed right now, looks like ill be giving up for now

yeah im starting to wish i had bought a stealth kit which hooks up to stock pipping would have been way way way less of a headache. o well off to bunnings for a good holesaw and then i can continue the job i started yesterday.

    • I drive the Tiguan much harder than the Skyline in all conditions, because it just grips and hooks, unlike the R33 shit box
    • The rain is the best time to push to the edge of the grip limit. Water lubrication reduces the consumption of rubber without reducing the fun. I take pleasure in driving around the outside of numpties in Audis, WRXs, BRZs, etc, because they get all worried in the wet. They warm up faster than the engine oil does.
    • When they're dead cold, and in the wet, they're not very fun. RE003 are alright, they do harden very quickly and turn into literally $50 Pace tyres.
    • Yeah, I thought that Reedy's video was quite good because he compared old and new (as in, well used and quite new) AD09s, with what is generally considered to be the fast Yokohama in this category (ie, sporty road/track tyres) and a tyre that people might be able to use to extend the comparo out into the space of more expensive European tyres, being the Cup 2. No-one would ever agree that the Cup 2 is a poor tyre - many would suggest that it is close to the very top of the category. And, for them all to come out so close to each other, and for the cheaper tyre in the test to do so well against the others, in some cases being even faster, shows that (good, non-linglong) tyres are reaching a plateau in terms of how good they can get, and they're all sitting on that same plateau. Anyway, on the AD08R, AD09, RS4 that I've had on the car in recent years, I've never had a problem in the cold and wet. SA gets down to 0-10°C in winter. Not so often, but it was only 4°C when I got in the car this morning. Once the tyres are warm (ie, after about 2km), you can start to lay into them. I've never aquaplaned or suffered serious off-corner understeer or anything like that in the wet, that I would not have expected to happen with a more normal tyre. I had some RE003s, and they were shit in the dry, shit in the wet, shit everywhere. I would rate the RS4 and AD0x as being more trustworthy in the wet, once the rubber is warm. Bridgestone should be ashamed of the RE003.
    • This is why I gave the disclaimer about how I drive in the wet which I feel is pretty important. I have heard people think RS4's are horrible in the rain, but I have this feeling they must be driving (or attempting to drive) anywhere close to the grip limit. I legitimately drive at the speed limit/below speed the limit 100% of the time in the rain. More than happy to just commute along at 50kmh behind a train of cars in 5th gear etc. I do agree with you with regards to the temp and the 'quality' of the tyre Dose. Most UHP tyres aren't even up to temperature on the road anyway, even when going mad initial D canyon carving. It would be interesting to see a not-up-to-temp UHP tyre compared against a mere... normal...HP tyre at these temperatures. I don't think you're (or me in this case) is actually picking up grip with an RS4/AD09 on the road relative to something like a RE003 because the RS4/AD09 is not up to temp and the RE003 is closer to it's optimal operating window.
