you people who are complaining obviously have never been on a truley free forum.

There are add banners up the top, down the sides and inbetween ever few posts. How often are you looking at the very top and very bottom of the page anyway? its the content in the middle that keeps you coming back to this forum not the pretty pictures in the header and footer of a page.

before you continue to bitch and complain about Christians decisions to help him pay for his forum costs, think about how much this really impacts you? Does having these banners cause any direct impact to you and your day to day life? no, they dont.

Now do having these banners, or more importantly does not having these banners impact PranK's life? yes it does! He is recently married, has a kid and also has a interest in imported cars and on top of that he alone has to pay for these forums to run!

Yes, he takes donations, yes he has traders on the forum who pay to use these forums to do busines.. but these are very smally amounts compared to the monthly running of this place. Donations are even smaller % of funds used to run this place.. how far do you think your $10, $20, $50 is going to go when you only do it once... I have donated a few times over the years and I plan on donating more in the time to come and I still no it barely makes a difference, but with everyone doing that it would make everything a lot easier or Christian.

so back to my original point, how much do these banners seriously affect you?

^^ Now that I know why the advertising is there I am happy for it to be there if it helps keep the forum up and running.

However, I do have a question. Refering to the image below, why does the area in the red box need to be so plain? There are HEAPS of creative people on this forum. Why not give ppl the opportunity to create an impressive image/logo to fill this space and then the best one can go up?

And before I get shot down, it is only a suggestion. If this is impracticle or too difficult then simply say that without abusing me.

you probably have a 20 somthing inch monitor?? im on my laptop at the moment with a 17 inch screen and the space is less than half as big as the screen shot your showing. So not everyone has as much un used space.

Also, I think funkymonkey is currently looking at redoing the skin and layout of the forum, so what we are seeing at the moment is probably only a temporary look anyway.. give it some time and let the admin play around with the code etc and it will probably come out looking a lot better.

^^ fair enough. I don't have a big monitor, its a laptop I am using but its a hig res and widescreen. But either way, about 40% of the banner is free in widescreen.

I'll wait to see what the end product is though.

It defeats the purpose of the ad if that area is overtly attention grabbing, yes?

lol

Its a shame the donation tag has to be poo brown.

I guess there's another bit of formatting after the banner.

No more poo.

Enjoy the banner ad

LOL PWNED... choice.. i love it..

well all of you that are complaining are the ones who HAVENT made donations.. furry muff that a couple decided to but fark how much of a bother is those two tiny ads? i noticed the top and didnt think it looked all that great but it did make the site look a hell lot different.. and is that entirely bad.. answer is no..

basically if you want to complain when you dont contribute.. you should just get on your bike and start ur own forum.. YOU cover the costs and YOU can plan out what goes on the site.. then i'll come over and NOT pay to use it and i'll judge and complain about whats on and not on the site..

if that's what is required to keep the site up then i'm all for it.. i mean as long as it doesnt go much further.. i mean they are relatively out of the way.. compared to most sites with shit pop ups and banners all over the place.. annoying shit that stops you goin to the sites.. i hardly notice them as they are a regular thing on the net so its kinda built in that i dont recognise them anyways..

i can see where christian is coming from.. i mean i got a house to pay off.. and bills and car payments.. can't even afford a child so good on him for doing what was required.. if it takes strain off him.. cause basically if he gets in over his head what would be the first thing to get off his list of bills... basically SAU.. so stop complaining about a little banner.. if it was there from when you signed up this wouldnt be happening..

ps can't wait to see the new layout

Hey all,

Thanks to those people who came to my defence. Please remember that keeping this forum free, accessible and as good as I can is my number 1 concern. I had sleepless nights (literally) about the dilema of putting bigger banners up because I knew that some people wouldnt like them.

The thing is that the banners do more than pay for the forums, they allow us to look at improving the forums a lot. I am looking into clustered solutions for the hosting and maybe bringing the hosting back to Australia (although, the banners need to be very, VERY lucrative to cover that). I have been speaking to a designer about a new layout and Shan is keen on doing one also that will incorporate the banners more into the site so they are less noticable. Also we have been thinking about the possibility of putting on events like drag and track days as the forum and not club specific. Again, these things come down to just how much we will get from the banners (currently we have an 'idea' but thats all). I am not using them to make me rich. I want at least the majority of the money to go back into the forums and the community.

As slim said, how much do they really affect you? They have been placed so that no extra scrolling is required. Yes I had to remove the R34 banner to do this but when the new layout comes along, it will look a lot better.

r32line, you are probably using a nice big resolution, eh? We had to make it 1024x768 safe (800x600 doesnt work very well, but only 2% of users are on it still). So on higher resolutions, there will be a gap.

Again, the banners are there for the site. To help the site grow and to give back to the members. Thats my primary objective.

Christian

    • For once a good news  It needed to be adjusted by that one nut and it is ok  At least something was easy But thank you very much for help. But a small issue is now(gearbox) that when the car is stationary you can hear "clinking" from gearbox so some of the bearing is 100% not that happy... It goes away once you push clutch so it is 100% gearbox. Just if you know...what that bearing could be? It sounding like "spun bearing" but it is louder.
    • Yeah, that's fine**. But the numbers you came up with are just wrong. Try it for yourself. Put in any voltage from the possible range and see what result you get. You get nonsense. ** When I say "fine", I mean, it's still shit. The very simple linear formula (slope & intercept) is shit for a sensor with a non-linear response. This is the curve, from your data above. Look at the CURVE! It's only really linear between about 30 and 90 °C. And if you used only that range to define a curve, it would be great. But you would go more and more wrong as you went to higher temps. And that is why the slope & intercept found when you use 50 and 150 as the end points is so bad halfway between those points. The real curve is a long way below the linear curve which just zips straight between the end points, like this one. You could probably use the same slope and a lower intercept, to move that straight line down, and spread the error out. But you would 5-10°C off in a lot of places. You'd need to say what temperature range you really wanted to be most right - say, 100 to 130, and plop the line closest to teh real curve in that region, which would make it quite wrong down at the lower temperatures. Let me just say that HPTuners are not being realistic in only allowing for a simple linear curve.
    • I feel I should re-iterate. The above picture is the only option available in the software and the blurb from HP Tuners I quoted earlier is the only way to add data to it and that's the description they offer as to how to figure it out. The only fields available is the blank box after (Input/ ) and the box right before = Output. Those are the only numbers that can be entered.
    • No, your formula is arse backwards. Mine is totally different to yours, and is the one I said was bang on at 50 and 150. I'll put your data into Excel (actually it already is, chart it and fit a linear fit to it, aiming to make it evenly wrong across the whole span. But not now. Other things to do first.
    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
