Wakefield Park Track Day 16/9/03- all welcome (organised by OZ GTI-R Owners Club)

Recommended Posts

Im about a 80% chance of starting, will have to see how tyres and brakes stand up at Eastern Creek at the Motoconcepts day earlier in the month.

Will be good fun punting around with a bunch of GTI-Rs. My best is 1:13.4 so looks like i might be handing out drinks as the Pulsars overtake me.

Oh and wrxkilla, does your car have white Enkei wheels, i suspect you may now be driving a friends old car.

Hi Roy,

Certainly, Do you Know Kris?

Pics are at www.pbase.com/wrxkilla

And Franks, the Pulsar weighs 1240kg.

Yeah I'm a Skyline lover too, hope some of you fellas can get down there. i saw some of you at the Bel trackday on Anzac day...

That is a nice car michael. saw it for the first time the other night when we were out 'cruisin' the highway. GTR's are my first love but If I had the chance I would take an Evo. paticularly the EVO IV. its my fav :)

are you the guy with the crazy sounding M spec that had a race with Avenge white R33 GTR?????

But yeah thanks.

Hope to see more of you guys at the Track.

I'll check with the organiser for when he wants the cut-off date for.

But spots are filling. I think we have filled 25 spots of of a self imposed 35 limit.

:)

Thought you had all the good gear with ur brakes Roy ?

The brakes are good lap after lap and really only improve consistancy over the day, not outright lap times.

Hey im happy with those lap times... stock boost with cat back exhaust. Nothing really special in the tyres either

Plus the tool behind the wheel makes all the difference and 1:13s is all i can muster.

Im hopoing in the near future to be giving 1:10s a scare:D

oh and Kris wasnt the guy im thinking off, perhaps i know the owner before Kris???? Would it be you i see driving down the cumberland highway from time to time?

nah Kris bough it in this Febuary from Japan.

But I understand tehre is another Silver 4 getting around sydney with the same enkei's :)

Yeah I've owned it for bout 3 months. Have been knows to cruise out there on a Sat night or whatever. :)

I'm also in Dire need of brakes, getting some new pads & rotors before the track...

Hey Guys,

IMFLYN - PM sent

FRANKS - 1220 (I think that's Dakar spec though) as quoted by Nissan but with air-con and stuff call it 1280

Roy - I think you'll find 1:13 will be more than a match for most of out crew (many first timers), possibly me included :)

Craved - We have about 10 places left

Duncan (can't wait to whip some of those little gtirs ) - we'll see... :)

MR R32 MSPEC - end of the comming week, but the sooner you pay the better as when 35 people have paid, that's it ;)

Good to see some more interest, if you need any more info let me know. It will be a great day and a chance (according to Duncan anyway) to show some crappy little pulsars a thing or two...

Richard

Hey MR R32,

I have tried to send you an email but it got bounced back to me :)

You can send me one if you like at [email protected]

Richard

Guys,

I have just received some news on the track day. Unfortunately the guy at Wakefield failed to mention that we need a $800 track permit, on top of the $1750 hire and we want an ambulance which is $440. This makes the cost of the day now $85.50 per car ($2990/35 cars). There is no profit margin in this day, it is purely being organised for our members (and you guys) benefit. I hope that you guys will still want to come as it's still a LOT cheaper than the $200 odd which seems to be the norm to attend a private day.

Richard

Still sounds alright, which I think everybody will be dissapointed about the price. but I am still in. didn't waste any money going to the creek wednesday night so I will come down. My GF said she is coming to watch me (hassle me about being safe ;) )

well thats pretty much what I paid last time plus $30 for the license. Is it only 35 cars for the whole day richard? what time would we be leaving sydney to down there, we left really early last time something like5:30am to get there with time to get ready to get on the track

Yep, that's 35 cars on the track. full stop. Some people are considering (me included) going down after work monday, staying the night (maybe the loaded dog?) to ensure that we are the early and not buggered from a three hour drive.

Also there is some debate at the moment about whether or not to drop the ambo, as this would reduce the cost by $13. Personally I would rather pay the extra peanuts to know that if my tyre explodes whilst going down the straight, and I hit the wall, there will be ambos working on me within seconds, not 5-20 minutes later. As I said to the GTI-R guys, despite people being carefull the whole point of a trackday is to explore the limits of your car (and ability) and you may exceed them (either one) in which case you will want the best care $13 can buy ;)

Richard

I would have to make the trip to meet you guys down there. My GF would not be allowed to stay overnight and I don't finish till 5pm on monday, get home at 6pm.

I will probably head down in the morning unless my gf's mum has a miraculous turnaround and lets her stay in the same room overnight somewhere with me, but it will never happen! ;)

so if anyone plans to drive down on the morning. post up so we can meet and go together

Yeah thats cool, closer to the time we can arrange a group to drive down in the morning...

My G/F is coming too.

;)

its still good Value

A friend of mine will be going down in the morning. I'll tee things up with you guys when we get closer to the date.

Get your girl to tell her parents she is staying at a friends place (or similar flimsy lie) then go anyway, you may find the night at the Loaded Dog more fun than the track day though ;)

Richard

I couldn't ask her to lie. the drive down in the morning would be ok anyways. just have a few CB radios, thats what we did last time, just chatted on the way down. car was warmed up properly when I got there

    • In the older stuff there were very significant differences 2wd to 4wd, for example Stagea had strut front end for 2wd and double wishbone for 4wd so it was not minor to swap. From poking around the 2wd v37, it *looks* like it might be more possible; some of the parts specifically have "2wd" stamped on them which suggests the platforms are more similar. You'd still want to start with a 4wd half cut to swap stuff from though. I'd suggest if you don't have a tune on the ECU you don't really need one on the trans either. Throttle mapping is in the ECU side (and you can always use a Roar Pedal if you want the throttle to actually respond to your foot), and really if you are happy with the stock power you probably accept the stock trans behaviour too....its all made to be "sporty" not racey.
    • So, updates. I have not washed the car since it came back from Tassie. I've driven it around a bit but not got around to actually sorting it out. I DID raise it because I cracked the rear bar leaving a hotel which was very distressing. Interestingly, the car drives more compliant now that it's raised a fair bit (5mm front, 15mm rear). Also noticed that my FR height was 10mm lower than FL. So that's now sorted out, too. I also bought this and had it printed: https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/1576422240/wheel-and-tire-fitment-tool-universal?ref=shop_home_feat_1&dd=1&logging_key=08f604d9fa4cc383550ba985e6ac85cd5cac7fbb%3A1576422240 Now, if I was smart I would have taken my brake calipers off to actually use this correctly but it was evident enough to me that in the region where the caliper was... there was nothing to hit suspension/guard/arm wise. So I'm going with "it'll be fine" after using the tool to hopefully very precisely measure the wheel clearance. Also while doing this, I had the very VERY bad idea of jacking one of the wheels/suspension arms up while the rest of the car was on jack stands. I did this to see how the arm would travel. This all was well and good until the car slid off the stands and went through a fence. So don't do that. Incredibly nobody was hurt and there was only minor damage to the rear bumper as the car didn't have far to slide, and had 3-4 wheels on it. The only damage turned out to be the fence itself which was easy to fix, and a little bit of damage to the fibreglass rear bumper trim. I had already planned to try a touch up paint kit to fix the time I drove into my garage door to see if it'd help in the interim before I get it fixed properly. I used the Dr Colorchip kit after looking online and seeing everyone talking about it. Yes it's made for chips and not huge broken missing pieces and I'll be 500% recommending it for stone chips after using it for stupid things like me. This took about ... 10 minutes and looking at the half assed photo the 30 second job I did on the bumper corner was almost perfect just by using the tiny little brush and painting it in. The sealact stuff to remove over-painting is really useful, so if/when I do it again I'll likely slather the touch up paint well over it and then clean it up with the cleaning solution. The wheels should arrive in a couple of weeks. I am still kinda confident after doing a stupid amount of measuring (and borrowing a set of 18x10.5+15) that they will not fit because I overlooked something, somehow and flew too close to the sun. ALSO R34 GTR guard liners do not fit on a GTT. I bought the undertray brake duct guides and had the wonderful problem of them not fitting my intake, my oil cooler and the liners themselves were even worse. Attempting to fit them won't work in general - You would have to cut them up as another poster mentioned as the bodywork is different on the GTT. At least I can try to resell them. So instead of cutting those up, I cut up my old already-cut-up GTT liners and extended them by using some PP plastic and drilling some 8mm holes for some nissan clips for the 'extra' bit. Because I was happy to cut them I was able to mount them pretty damn forward so I now have some semblance of guard liners, and the brake vents seal the bumper from the bottom. It sort-of-looks like this, to give some idea - If you look at the GTR and then the GTT this is when I realised that I needed to seriously measure as the inside of the rim area is entirely, entirely, entirely different and could not take any internet measurements for granted.
    • If you are Ecutek tuned then these TCU tunes are anywhere from $550 to $700 usd. If you are not ECUTEK tuned, then it gets costly!
    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?
