Nuthing definate at this stage guys, probably once the new clutch and the nutso FJ go back back in and I go for a drive all thoughts of EVO might go out the window who knows, like I said it all depends on if there's any interest in the DR. At the end of the day I want to compete in the Targa West next year and while the DR is a very capable car it's not an EVO and I can't swing it with the missus to let me spend that much on the DR :( lol.

Go for a drive in a decent Evolution 6/6.5 , slightly smaller lighter and nimbler that the 7 . 7's had all sorts of issues with ACD programming and were the first of the larger (now last gen) body style .

In it's own way the 6's are a classic having left their mark on the international rally scene in their day which was ~ 99 2000 from memory .

Be careful here , once you've had all wheel drive it's difficult to go away from it .

I put an AWD gearbox in my old Subie RX Turbo and the difference is quite noticable .

A .

Trust me , there is life after FJ20 turbo engines .

go get a loan and buy the lancer.

the dr sounds nice. i wouldnt sell it.

its a lot easier to buy a lancer then it is to buy a clean dr30.

You may come to a time where you want to buy another dr30 and you wont be able to afford it.

My mate had a mint 2door LJ torana 6 years ago. The dick head sold it for 6k and now wanted

another one to do up and paid 6k for a rust bucket!

A year or two ago, I started sending out messages that I was interested in selling my DR.

I had a few bites, but I think that it was obvious that I wasn't 100% committed to the sale.

The car sits in the driveway at present, with a new SAAS drivers seat, awaiting the final fitout of my PWR Water-to-Air IC (and a re-map of the Haltech to factor in the IC).

I shall try to re-register it over summer, because even with 140kW, it's a blast to drive & is a classic Japanese car.

If you have to sell it, then do so. But be damn sure about it!

Car is now for sale, is just getting a bit of work done to it at the moment but should be ready to go in a cupla weeks, looks like a blown head gasket :D . And yeh the 6.5 seems to be the go but the styling is looking a bit dated now, looking at a VII or VIII depending on cost, kays and condition. Won't be driven much as I'm on a 2and1 FIFO roster.

2&1 FIFO roster out of Perth?

unless you're pi$$ing your money up the wall, you should easily afford the Evo as well as keeping the DR.

Jus be done with it and get an Evo 9 :bunny:

LOL yeh maybe FIFO but still have a mortgage, Mrs etc etc, hardly get to drive the DR so even less chance with 2 cars. Sad to say I can't justify having a car in the shed just cos I like it (the DR) I need something a bit more practicle that the Mrs can drive at a pinch, where with the DR she won't even be a passenger :bunny:

Life is always at a crossroads . I had a nice DR30 and I enjoyed it at the time but tastes and technology march on .

One train of though may be that you've had yours and enjoyed it and maybe it's time to move on a let someone else have the experience .

It's always nice to see a fav car go to a good home and with care it will still be out there .

A .

PS run the Evo idea past she who must be obeyed because they are expensive toys too .

How serious are you about Targa West? What I mean is: are you looking for an Evo that you can drive every day, and then put a bolt-in cage in and throw at the scenery once in a while, or are you looking for a serious car?

Here's a nice one that recently appeared on my forum: Evo 8

or you can get the new Evo X for $41,900 from Ralliart.

TBH, if you are thinking of the former, you would be better off using the DR...

The car won't be a daily driver as I only spend 1 week out of 3 at home, as far as the Targa is concerned I am definately interested and rather than go all out (cage etc) I can run in the Challenge comp and just have a bit of fun instead of going all out on a bituman killer.

    • You Gregged a whole racetrack!?
    • Look for broken wire or bad connector at the motor. Might not be it, but is worth starting there, as it is easy.
    • Hi everyone, I’m having an issue with my R32 GT-R. Sometimes, when the car goes over a bump or experiences some vibration, the 4WD warning light comes on the dashboard. When I check the code from the control unit in the trunk, it shows Code 19 – ETS Motor. However, everything seems to be working fine — if I turn off the engine and restart the car, the light goes away and everything functions normally. Has anyone experienced this before? Where should I start troubleshooting this issue? Thanks in advance!
    • I'm back from the dyno - again! I went looking for someone who knew LS's and had a roller dyno, to see how it shaped up compared to everything else and confirm the powerband really is peaking where Mr Mamo says it should. TLDR: The dyno result I got this time definitely had the shape of how it feels on the road and finally 'makes sense'. Also we had a bit more time to play with timing on the dyno, it turns out the common practice in LS is to lower the timing around peak torque and restore it to max after. So given a car was on the dyno and mostly dialled in already, it was time for tweaking. Luis at APS is definitely knowledgable when it came to this and had overlays ready to go and was happy to share. If you map out your cylinder airmass you start seeing graphs that look a LOT like the engine's torque curve. The good thing also is if you map out your timing curve when you're avoiding knock... this curve very much looks like the inverse of the airmass curve. The result? Well it's another 10.7kw/14hp kw from where I drove it in at. Pretty much everywhere, too. As to how much this car actually makes in Hub Dyno numbers, American Dyno numbers, or Mainline dyno numbers, I say I don't know and it's gone up ~25kw since I started tinkering lol. It IS interesting how the shorter ratio gears I have aren't scaled right on this dyno - 6840RPM is 199KMH, not 175KMH. I have also seen other printouts here with cars with less mods at much higher "kmh" for their RPM due Commodores having 3.45's or longer (!) rear diff ratios maxing out 4th gear which is the 1:1 gear on the T56. Does this matter? No, not really. The real answer is go to the strip and see what it traps, but: I guess I should have gone last Sunday...
