hey all.

I really don post here much and haven't really introduced myself.

I have been in Vic for about 8 months and really like melbourne. I have been on sau for years and have had a few skylines.

anyway I thought I could make a bit of a diary of my respray, wheels and probably interior, I have a 1993 model R32 that was a non turbo. factory black.

I have since built a RB30DET for it using RB30e block and RB25de head. i built it myself and tuned it too. it is the first engine i have built and it was a great experience. anyway the 32 has some panel damage and it looks a bit tired so i have decided to respray it.

atm its factory black, has no sideskirts or pods, factory gtst bar and bonnet. but th rear guards have been pumped 2 inches and it has 19x9's up front and 17x10's at the rear. I really don't like too much attention so i wanted it to look stock but aggressive.

this is what it looks like now. except the guards are now pumped and it has a gtst front bar not GTR

but i have decided to paint it millenium jade and powder the wheels satin black

anyway is will be all done in about 2 weeks so i will post some pics when it has been done.

cheers!

Awesome effort on building you own rb30det :D

I should get mine back from the mechanic's early next week.

GREAT choice of colour too. There is a Commodore colour that is similar to the Millennium Jade and every time i see it, i imagine a Skyline with satin black rims and other satin touches, wicked colour!

You got to do something about your brake setup though :)

hehe thanks dudes

yep the brake setup is all in bits waiting to go on. I have a set of r32 m spec calipers adapters and 326mm rotors. just have to get some decent pads and lines.

I am going to paint it without a kit. i really want it to look as low key as possible

I might fit a garage sirius front lip and leave it satin black but that's it.

I am still remapping ecu's and have done a few for people in vic so far. A basis remap and road tune will be $150 and will cover anything up to gtr injectors and a 2530/hiflow ect.

anyone going to the dyno day today? its in the events section

Sounds good man.. u doing the prep work for the respray yourself?

Incase ur wandering why i havent got the re-map off ya yet is because my car has been in the shop the last 2 and a 1/2 weeks getting resprayed R34 GTR Bayside Blue so havent had access to take out the ECU..

I get it back next Fri/Sat, so dont worry the week after im gonna grab that remap off ya

hehe thanks dudes

yes i went to the dyno day, i asked you why you had blue badges!

hehe it all clicks together after i read your post

Were you happy with the power? Was they dyno reading higher/lower than what you expected?

$150 includes the chip, socket and the tune?

Very good price, let us know via PM cause im real keen

Hey Nic! Great to see that you're moving even further ahead with your R32 - That paint/wheel combination will look sooo good! Great choice there.

BTW i just got my boost controller installed and dialed in at about 12-13psi and the car has responded very and goes heaps harder. Bit of tight squeeze to try make the dyno day today but will update you whenever i get another chance to put the car on the rollers. SEE THIS MAN FOR YOUR REMAPPING NEEDS! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

All the best with your car mate.

Cheers

Steve.

hehe thanks steve :(

no probs kosmokram :) whenever you are ready just give me a buzz.

Rekin, Hi mate :D that's funnny! i should have clued up to some sau dudes being there!

yep the price includes chip, socket and tune. i have all the tools to do it on the spot and don't really need a dyno. only if you are changing drastically from stock. and it will give you a real before and after.

yep the dyno reads low by quite a bit but the power curve was perfect. what did your car make?

the respray is going to be a dropp off and pick up 2 weeks later deal they are doing the lot. it's going to be a budget job and will cost $1600 it won't be a full show job by any means but i have seen their work and it looks good.

they will remove lights, bumpers, mirrors, trims, door handles and locks but will not pull out the glass. also just going to get the surfaces painted and door jambs, boot and engine bay will remain black. it's just a bit of a freshen up.

  • 3 weeks later...

Woo Hoo!

I pick up the car today. i just went and had a look at it and it looks hot! it's still in bits but will be ready to pick up this afternoon. the wheels are also done and will be going on tomorrow.

I will take some pics tomorrow and post them up.

yep :D

paying visits to check progress twice a week helped and paying cash on delivery also helps.

car looks awesome. its not a show job but looks good all the same.

glad the remap is in and working abu  enjoy the new GTR...

Nice work mate, nice choice on colour too! Should look great. Impressive work on the RB30, I've always wanted to build an engine myself, nothing like being thrown in the deep end to learn huh! Will be a bit a weapon in such a small car, can't wait to see it in action!

here are some last min pics. sprry for the shitty quality and bad compasition. I am jusing my mobile phone.

NEVER buy a samsung digital camera. they are the worst cameras. stupid piece of shit... worst purchase ever.

24072008004.jpg

the photos make it look quite ordinary, but it looks mint! hope you likey... I will take some better photos as son as possible. you really can't see how much the rear guards are flared in the photos.

next purchase will be a black front lip

cheers!

Did you have to replace your windscreen when u get the spray? My panel beater says to me today oh by the way we have to replace your windscreen because when you take them off because they're glued theres a 90% chance it will smash and thats what happend.. Find that hard to beleive lol..

Its almost done!! Get it mid next week so Nick PM me your new mobile number man i might drop by next weekend for the re-map :D

    • The rain is the best time to push to the edge of the grip limit. Water lubrication reduces the consumption of rubber without reducing the fun. I take pleasure in driving around the outside of numpties in Audis, WRXs, BRZs, etc, because they get all worried in the wet. They warm up faster than the engine oil does.
    • When they're dead cold, and in the wet, they're not very fun. RE003 are alright, they do harden very quickly and turn into literally $50 Pace tyres.
    • Yeah, I thought that Reedy's video was quite good because he compared old and new (as in, well used and quite new) AD09s, with what is generally considered to be the fast Yokohama in this category (ie, sporty road/track tyres) and a tyre that people might be able to use to extend the comparo out into the space of more expensive European tyres, being the Cup 2. No-one would ever agree that the Cup 2 is a poor tyre - many would suggest that it is close to the very top of the category. And, for them all to come out so close to each other, and for the cheaper tyre in the test to do so well against the others, in some cases being even faster, shows that (good, non-linglong) tyres are reaching a plateau in terms of how good they can get, and they're all sitting on that same plateau. Anyway, on the AD08R, AD09, RS4 that I've had on the car in recent years, I've never had a problem in the cold and wet. SA gets down to 0-10°C in winter. Not so often, but it was only 4°C when I got in the car this morning. Once the tyres are warm (ie, after about 2km), you can start to lay into them. I've never aquaplaned or suffered serious off-corner understeer or anything like that in the wet, that I would not have expected to happen with a more normal tyre. I had some RE003s, and they were shit in the dry, shit in the wet, shit everywhere. I would rate the RS4 and AD0x as being more trustworthy in the wet, once the rubber is warm. Bridgestone should be ashamed of the RE003.
    • This is why I gave the disclaimer about how I drive in the wet which I feel is pretty important. I have heard people think RS4's are horrible in the rain, but I have this feeling they must be driving (or attempting to drive) anywhere close to the grip limit. I legitimately drive at the speed limit/below speed the limit 100% of the time in the rain. More than happy to just commute along at 50kmh behind a train of cars in 5th gear etc. I do agree with you with regards to the temp and the 'quality' of the tyre Dose. Most UHP tyres aren't even up to temperature on the road anyway, even when going mad initial D canyon carving. It would be interesting to see a not-up-to-temp UHP tyre compared against a mere... normal...HP tyre at these temperatures. I don't think you're (or me in this case) is actually picking up grip with an RS4/AD09 on the road relative to something like a RE003 because the RS4/AD09 is not up to temp and the RE003 is closer to it's optimal operating window.
    • Either the bearing has been installed backwards OR the gearbox input shaft bearing is loosey goosey.   When in doubt, just put in a Samsonas in.
