Hi Guys,

So it's Saturday afternoon, still daylight, about 5pm in Glebe, Sydney. I'm walking back to my car from doing some record shopping with a mate and as we're getting near the car, we see this big group of 15-20 odd teenage chavs standing on the corner near it. We round the corner and see this kid standing looking at the passenger side of the car, I don't think too much of it at this stage. We get closer and he looks at us and walks off. I put my key in the lock to open the door, and realise that the door is already unlocked. So I open it up and find the car ransacked. The steering column is exposed, and ignition leads are dangling from the dash. There's screws and broken pieces of plastic on the floormat. I say 'f**k' aloud and look straight back at the kids on the opposite side of the road who are staring back at us. I get in the car and take a closer look. The glovebox is hanging open, the ash tray and the dash pocket are both hanging open. The contents have been pulled out and left on the seats. The plastic shrouds that cover the indicator switch and ignition barrel have been torn off and are not in the car. The wires have been ripped out to get to the bottom of the barrel.

I get back out of the car and these kids are walking up the road straight past us and the car. The ringleader says: 'Geez, has this been here all day? It's turbo-charged right? I wouldn't leave a turbo'd car sitting around here all day.' f**king cocky - I regret not punching him in the jaw.

I call the Police (who take a surprisingly long time to reach the car depsite the station being only one street away) and give them all the info I've got when they arrive. By now I've realised that they got in on the passenger side by prying the window from the seal with a screwdriver (you can see the indentations). They're coming out tomorrow to try and get fingerprints off the car. Nothing they can do but caution the kid even if they figure out who it is.

These f**king thieves were so close to getting away with the car. The only thing that stopped them was my immobiliser (thank God). They'd pulled everything out and had just the base of the ignition barrel left, which you can turn and start the car with any piece of metal you can wedge in there (screwdriver etc). Luckily they couldn't get it going or it would've been long gone. I get the impression that we only just missed out on springing them red handed, as all my stuff (watch, sunglasses, jumper, car stereo) was all still in the car. I guess they figured they'd get it going and take the stuff after they crashed it or it ran out of petrol.

I've never had a car broken into, and I'm so fortunate that the immobiliser worked. The other good result (in the sense that it could've been much worse) is that my stuff was still there and the car only has some minor superficial damage in the way of scratches and stuff.

What I'm not sure of is how to go about the repairs. I want them done properly and I don't want to end up with a different key for the ignition. The car is obviously insured, but it's not worth paying the excess (I doubt it'll cost that much to fix). Who do I go to, to get the repairs done properly? I spoke to Nissan about it and the parts are quite expensive ($150 off just for the plastic covers around the column). Has anyone got any input on this? Or does anyone on here have a 32 they're wrecking that I could get the locks and parts I need out of?

Damn .... no good punk kids! But at least the car was still there....

It is school holidays atm though.... I wish they got more than a caution... basically teaches them that they can do what they want and get away with it till they are close to 18....

As for repairs... can you get door barrels rekeyed to match the new ignition??? Or might be more simpler to install a central locking kit hooked up to your alarm/immobiliser system?? Therefore eliminating the need for a key in the door....

How bad is the wiring??? I know a good auto elec that is mobile and can come to you... he rewired my car when the ecu fried itself the night before DECA last year... came out at 8pm as I was leaving at 4am the next morning!!

For the plastic surrounds Id get some from a wrecker such as SSS @ Giraween or Just Jap etc.... or in the for sale section on here..

Mmmm yea I used to have uni touch footy training down at the oval in Glebe at night..

Stopped going cause I was too suss about parking my car around there..

Really bad situation for you to be in there..

Hit one guy and get jumped by 20.. Possibly stabbed too.

Or leave it there again as bait wait.. Get him and take him away.. Literally take him away blind folded and drive 1000km's to the middle of nowhere and leave him :woot:

OK, Heres The Game Plan, Go There Again Park It!! Wait For The To Come...GET ALL YOUR FREINDS!!! Some Other SAU's AND JUMP THEM ALL HA HA HA HA THAT WOULD BE SO GOOD, But Sorry To Here About That, Unlucky, What Has This World Come To?

:woot:

Well if police do find the kids, they may be faced with the possibility of being charged, it doesn't mean that they will automatically get a Youth Caution. And with fingerprints you would be suprised how many 'hits' we get with dumb asses who don't put gloves on...

But at the end of the day the immobiliser saved the day =)

The kids will be underaged, and probably (not stereotypical here, but knowing the area) of Aboriginal background, which means the Police will already be on the defensive with them.

It sucks, I have an R32 GTR, and I work in Glebe, have to travel to and from work everyday, and leave the car in Glebe all day, but I am lucky I have my own CCTV and I face it straight to the car each day.

I know for a fact the car has been sussed out by these friggin punks, I have also seen the mongrels looking through the windows, and I know they are casing it for a theft or at least breakin, and it's only a matter of time.

I am lucky at the moment, it's currently at the panel shop getting some work done, but once my alarm system goes in, the internal lock handles will be removed or at least disabled, so it doesn't matter if they pry the window, but then this will pose the other problem of them smashing the window, and seriously who looks at an "open window" of a car.

I would LOVE to catch these fockers in the act and take to them with a bat, show them what 'break and enter' means when we enter their heads.

The other problem is, all of them are underage, so the most they will get is a caution, and maybe have to pay for damages.

The other end of Glebe isn't as bad.

B.

Thanks for the support/sympathy. It really does suck. I just hate the feeling of someone else being in the car without my knowledge. Forcing their way in. You know what I mean? I appreciate the links and pointers that have been posted.

It is true that it could've been much much worse! Anyone who hasn't got an immobiliser - GET ONE!

From what i hear this happens all the time in Glebe - i would never park there in any car. The cops are not responsive because it happens so often, and they're minors. Use the Broadway shopping center car park if you're in that area.

don't bother paying for the parking in broadway, i used to go to tafe in ultimo a few years back and i had a 2001 kia rio, in 2 years i had 3 broken windows all at seperate times all of which were during the day on weekdays and on the last time it was broken into inside broadway shopping centre. i never had probs parking at the UTS or Haymarket car park. "imagine how many break inns id have with the skyline now". Yes they are abbos and roducts of the housing commision in the area.... good news is most of the housing commision have already been torn down and being replaced, hopefully glebe will become safer for our beloved street machines... also got jumped around the corner in ultimo and beat the shit out of him so i hope i beat up the guy who broke into your car lol...

all you can do is alarm it, immobilise it and keep you fingures crossed they dont tourch it when they get frustrated after not being able to steal it...insurance never replaces a skyline, theres many skylines around but only the one you own is the good one and is irreplacable...

also i dont know about you guys but my insurance insisted id at least get a 3 point black wire immobiliser or they won't cover it at all,,,, so i went all out and put an automatically engaging immobiliser with a brand name alarm and a built in turbo timer.... Fingures crossed its potentially very hard to steal... life would be better and cheaper if other people can be trusted and respect other peoples property

    • Not that I know from experience, but in theory you'd want your gate spring to be as close to target pressure as possible, so you'd go with the higher gate spring?
    • Before I commit to it as I already have the wastegate off the car, would you change it to the 9psi spring instead of the 12, or whack it back on now and try your suggestion?   Edit: Actually I might just swap the spring and see what the logs say after another few pulls, as we know it's still spiking without the Mac valve in the picture so I need more data without the Mac valve trying to combat the issue.
    • Sounds good Hmm suppose the main thing is, how much do you care about this car? The filler doesn't make for a very good water barrier lol. If there was a tiny little bit of rust forming now, that in 3 to 5 years time becomes obvious under the paint (starts to bubble up), would it bother you?
    • I already have the ability to datalog the voltage... what I can't do is correlate it to what the gauge is showing when I'm looking at the data at a later date. Or something like this. Except getting the oil to 125C+ involves me going 200+kmh at the track so you can imagine this is a little tricky unless I do something like note what the voltage is when I am at the top of 5th gear so I have a point to reference on. Drove car today. O2 still reading richer because hopefully not a leak instead of massive restriction I've introduced. Car really doesn't sound like a LS. It's quite strange. Pulled a bit of fuel out up top. This does potentially explain why my spark plugs looked like the car was running pretty over-rich. If I was tuning it to a ~12.7 which in reality was far richer than that in the past. It will be handy to have the dyno WB to compare my WB to to compare notes that's for sure. At this point I'm happy to just sit in the passenger seat and tune the thing given I've got about 7 million hours on the platform lol.
    • Yeah I understand you have to pay for an updated map or subscription service or something. But I can't even find a current map for Australia. My map is dated 2017, but didn't this car version still sell in Australia until 2021?   Also, just as an aside, the navigation system warns you of traffic incidences ahead.....why would they include that on a map they knew is not receiving live information. I am forever going to be warned of an incident that probably existed for 30 minutes 8 years ago.
