i noticed a few people using navmans and tomtoms at tt last year.

i guess they might be a good idea... if you're nav has a habit of falling off... can't help but think of it as a distraction i could do without sitting on the scary side (not that I'll be doing that again anytime soon)!

today was the first day in months i spend tinkering with the rx7, its getting there and might even start by the end of the month!

other than that its early evo central

post-5400-1234079274_thumb.jpg

good to hear the work on the only car less reliable than a skyline is still coming along >_<

my thoughts exactly on the gps being a distraction but people seem to be increasingly happy with it?

for the moment having good notes, and reccy is what i think i'll stick to

just interested on whether you can get used to it to use with notes for stages you don't get a chance to reccy

a no brainer for transport stages though

Im thinking about one (a tomtom) for transport stages, but i don't even use a terratrip in stage unless its to report a car off but even then id have to resort to the notes for actual position as every terratrip ive used in stage has always been inaccurate by a massive margin.

Im a bit worried about Rally Tas as Hurf that im running with doesn't even have a terratrip! and i haven't been able to organise something in the short term.

I'd offer up our terratrip Tim but I don't think we'd have any chance of getting it out the car before I head down to Tassie >_<

Working up until I leave and have work stuff on both nights so no chance of spending some quality time pulling out all the bits.

Yeh no worries Kel, I know the roads ok enough to not get TOO lost.

If i could get my hands on a MONIT im pretty sure they plug into the diagnostic port of an EVO. but anyway beggers can't be choosers. Just need Tony buy another Donut King car ay! so I can get back in a pink silly seat and have drongo's asking "wheres my donuts?" (do you get that?)

Ill talk to you about notes when you get down here, im interested to see what others are running and how they find them, looking for a bit of a change for TT this year.

But on the un recce'd stages, previously I found the driver more reliant on the notes and ended up being quicker overall.. not that i would recommend it!

ahh the *have you got donuts* question... if only i had a dollar as they say

well, that and the *can you do a donut* question... reckon i'd have 5 x 35s by now for everyone that's asked that one!

definitely keen to talk notes- still so much for me to learn!

will look out for you at the surf club on thursday night- i will be the one in the pink DK shirt >_<

i remember EVERY startline and most stop points asking us if there were donuts in the boot with the 32... and the year i had brock's monaro for a week after the event and everyone kept asking if i was ok for fuel... makes me think all tasmanian's are just total smart arses!

thanks to twp we're fresh out of monit's and awaiting restock sorry tim else would shoot you one up (they do just plug into evo).

when you get closer to wanting a hans device let me know, bms can supply and the price is always right!

rx7 progress... inlcuding gtr rims.

I certainly wouldn't rely on a TOMTOM etc for actual speed sections as there are far too many "off the road in the bush" readings for it to be reliable. But for recce's and transport stages they are awesome I reckon.

As a slight side topic - I think these crazy fires here in Vic may have cliamed a very minor victim in the scale of things in the April Lake Mountian rally. For anyone that has been there it is just impossible to fathom right now that Marysville is gone from the map. But with it I'm sure goes the rally. I know a few people that have lost places up there on the weekend but thankfully they are ok. However they have all lost friends which is tragic. My thoughts go out to everyone effected in the area.

So shocking - completely unbelievable.

Last week I was reading about competitors staying in the picturesque town of Marysville for the Sprint, as I was juggling the calendar to see if we could get to the event.

Now we're reading about the town for very sad and very wrong reasons.

Good luck Kel! You won't be seein me, you'll see Timmy though :P Keep an eye out for the little fella if he looks lost without a TerrTrip :D

I know Benny, I meant the other Ben on chicane duties

Hi guys, Just wanted to let you know Townsville city autosports club Will be running the Mt Stuart Tarmac Rally sprint again this year here in Townsville on the Queens birthday long weekend Of the 6th and 7th of june. We have released the draft sup regs that can be found on our web site here Townsville City Autosports club

In short the rally will be run over 8 x 7.5km Special stages on the Mt stuart tourist drive that climbs 510 odd meters verticly from the start to finish. There is more info about the course in the sup regs but we use part of the mountin for our regular short course hillclimb events.

The Calihans in their black VH HDT commodore have won it the last 2 years running and have loved the event and it's social atmosphere. I hope to have my GTR ready in time to compete this year instead of just being in the sweep car.

So if anyone wants to get out of the cold down there over the long weekend, we would love for a few southerners to make the trip up to North Queensland for a very good weekend of tarmac rallying.

If anyone would like some more info please call me on 0401695849 anytime.

Cheers

Coop

G'day Coop, is this a hillclimb (ie no navigator) or a rally (w/- navigator)?

Hey Ben.

This is a legit tarmac Rally. ie with navigator. Open to Cams National rally licence holders. Cars must be compliant with rules of Cams 2009 manual of motorsport for tarmac rally or PRC. As in must be road registered, log booked rally car.

But all the info you need is in the sup reg draft in the link from my last post and there's a bit of a poster for the event is on the first page.

We have 4 club level hill climbs a year on the short course on this same bit of road but they only use 1.2 km of the rally sprint course.

Hope you're as keen as i am. Will be a good weekend.

Sorry to have missed you at drinks Tim - we piked early to'get some stuff sorted.

I am absolutely shagged after nearly 11 hours of reccy really looking forward to this event though lots of high speed stuff

Very interesting to be running with the arc guys given some of their recent announcements

Not sure if service parks are same Ben waratah has changed

Thanks Coop. I purchased my car as a CAMS compliant vehicle, but have since modified it to AASA spec, as most of the tarmac rallies I compete in and wish to compete in are now with AASA, and I see the possibility of other rallies coming over as well for the sake of consistency. So, saying that, I'd have to say I'm out, unless of course Giant wants to do and we share his Evo. Russ? lol

It's an event I'd like to do :(

What is AASA? Austrailian Auto Sport Accosiation? All i really know is CAMS because all the events up this way are all cams events.

There is no way my car will meet the M2 catigory at all cause it fails on about 10 criteria for being over modified but i'm told by Some people i've talked to that it'll probably sneak in under PRC rules which the event is also open to. I'm not a hundred percent sure that mine will pass but we'll see. They have let a few small curly ones slide in the past..... :P

I sent Russ a email the other day to see if he'd be keen so hopefully he hasn't commited to anything else that weekend. Be good to have the RGM boys back up for another event. Otherwise anything I can do to help people make the journey up to Townsville possible, just let me know.

    • Have a vb in honour of the car comming back
    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
