Yeah doesn't look good huh.

I've been reading it, for the negative's there is several positives. The tyre thing is something I campaigned for, and the boys listened. I really this the length of the event was beginning to make the tyre thing dangerous.

Seems changes have been made to fuel tank regs, to allow you to fit a 200 gallon tank of expensive E85. As if running Targa isn't already expensive enough.

I'm up for Platimum, but aren'y we still elligible if we miss a year or two?

Grassroots rallying is where its at ATM, Last round of the Tassie Series this w/end, 30 entries (thats a big field for tassie), 140km competitive, $285 entry fee.

Keep an eye out as a believe later in the year there will be a series wrap up on OneHD (Will Confirm).

Well I'm a happy lad. After talking to Stu it looks like all I need to do is swap over to 2 more usable sized snails and I'm good to go in Early Modern now. ;) The rest of the car falls in-line as is no worries (aren't I glad I couldn't afford a 2.8L last year! LOL)

These new rules really do mean that your average "club" car will fall in-line with the regs really really easily. Targa Tas is still a pretty big financial whack but events like TWP and TT Rookie are accessable with-out spending a small fortune, and with the car regs being a lot easier I forsee a good interest in new people having a look at them in the future.

The tyre rule sure does make things nice especially for the RWD guys as well. I think all up these changes - whilst potentially annoying for some hey Benny - are all up another good step in the right direction.

And Woo - you wouldn't even need to run E85. I can't see that many EMod guys actually bothering with it, and given you finished less than 1 min behind the EMod champ as it was last year - and some of these new rules help you out even further - you're not exactly in no mans land with your car.

Stu tells me the profile of EMod will be raised next year (right Stu? ;) ) so I wouldn't be chucking it in just yet mate!

Too right Snowy, EMod is an exciting part of the event marrying cost effective and iconic 90's cult cars with a competition that isn't full of pro-drivers or factory teams. Promotion of Emod at TT09 certainly provides a great opportunity to improve on for TWP and TT going forward.

The new regs do see a lot of adjustment, and are hopefully much easier to read for everyone, both new to the sport and not so. Snowy touched on it above and when we spoke and I genuinely believe that these new regs will help make opening the tarmac rally door even easier for more people. As with so many decisions in the motorsport world there are the odd few compromises made along the road when trying not to lose sight of the big picture and based on the feedback Mark, Helen and I have received today the future of TT and TWP is very bright!

As if it isnt hard enough...

Following our success at Targa, an international Airline we have been courting for some time started talking about a 2010 involvement. Most will know we had corporate support for a few years from big B, but since 2008 have been paying the bills ourselves. I refered my Marketing contact to a couple of web sites, the Targa site and Tarmac mag.

Negotiations have since gone south "Greg, that mag mentioned your car may not have been legal" was my feedback.

I looked at a copy at the only agent that carries a copy of TM in L'ton. "Fargin Great"

"Not sure that is the type of profile we are looking to support" MM commented. "Whether it be true or totally off the mark - it is not a position we should put our selves in...

...any publicity is good??? and I should expect any better from a mag who's editor cannot read a results sheet??

But the loss of a rare potential sponsor would tend to dispell the publicity theory and make our chances to be at 2010 events less likely.

Dean - You was NOT 3rd quickest in Queenstown (even though the commitment in the 260 footage is impressive) and leaving out the fact that half the top ten got derived times makes your continued reference even funnier. And for the record - You was NOT the highest placed showroom spec car in the event! - thanks for your support though... the CarbonXtc ad in your mag looks great.

Given the public nature of this opinion, I thought a right of reply was justified.

Firstly, an excellent result, no doubt. Which is why we chose to run an image of your car in the current Tarmac magazine. From the sniff of sarcasm, however, I do find it surprising that there is a negative overview.

For those who don't have a copy, let me quote the caption to the photo supporting your entry, your effort and your result:

"Greg Johnson won showroom class by so much, some rivals suspected (hoped) it may not quite be 'showroom' spec."

This was a very carefully worded caption taking into account the many competitors (many with driving credence) who had been beaten by so much, and were concerned that your car was doing similar times to the 'outright' Evo IXs; they seriously called into question the car's legality - it was a hot topic and remains so. We know for a fact three separate teams were considering a protest against your car, but did not lodge them as they considered it was not in the best interest of the sport.

Tarmac magazine simply suggested that you did so well, your competitors 'hoped' you were cheating. That's a positive. If this caption led to the loss of an international airline sponsor, sincere apologies.

As far as my own efforts in the Lotus Cup 260, from what I can gather then and now, my Queenstown time was equal third quickest with Rex Broadbent. If that is incorrect, I'm happy to discontinue quoting it.

As for your overall result, I did in fact mis-read the results. My apologies. It is a superb effort to finish 10th outright in the combined field, beating all but two of the Evolution Lancers that have the freedoms of more modifications and beating last year's similar Showroom-winning Evo 9 by almost three-and-a-half minutes. To do that in a totally showroom stock car equates to one of the most impressive drives of TT09.

I see that Ben boot has been banned, as it's stipulated that bonnet and boot must keep the oem hinges and mecanims...lucky i hadn't cut my boot up yet.

Yeah lucky I have a second bootlid and kept all hinging etc......

So ive been having wild ideas of building a classic car...

Ive also noticed that ABS can only be used on vehicles that have an ABS system fitted by the manufacturer when new. So what about all the classics that have had it retro fitted?

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
    • When you pulled it off, there is no signs of blown head gasket? Is it possible you have some other issues going on? Possible cracked blocked? Or do you think it's straight up lifting the head? Did you check what the head was torqued to before pulling it down (To see if possibly they're stretching, or starting to break threads out etc)?
    • Seems like a decent result for a modded JZX110. They are bulky in comparison to the 100 and 90 models (which I'd prefer myself) but they are getting very few and far between here in JP these days. Thanks for the detailed review and the import process into the UK. I also have a car which I'm hoping to export from Japan at some stage so it's good to know if someone from the UK was interested in it. By the way the corrosion underneath is par for the course for cars which were located in/near the mountains or along the Japan sea coastline. They get huge amounts of snow every winter and the sodium chloride is used on the roads. Many cars have some kind of rubber like treatment underneath but they tend to limit it to the wheel arches underbody and fuel tank. Suspension arms and sub-frames will have similar corrosion to your JZX110 which is a common sight. See it all the time and car dealers here generally don't even mention it unless asked.
    • If the sound goes away when you clutch in, the 1.5/2 way diffs are just shit, and you are a normal person. The diff is likely "fine" but driving at anything under 30kmh is a violent horrible experience. It would be exaggerated with solid diff bushings and subframe bushings if you have those.
