Yeah us too! Last stage of the last day, Grass Tree hill reverse I call it, can't remember its proper name.

We had them in 2006 too, right in the middle of the roud when we appeared tapped out in 4th in the GTR. Silly boys. LOL

Risdon Brook, only reason any taswegian could remember is thats the place you go when you do something bad, do not pass go, do not collect $200.

look I'm not saying it was a brilliant decision from the emo driver....but if you are doing rally you have no right to expect the road to be clear around the corner.

anything could happen or change from the recce notes, that evo could have been crashed into the bank and sideways across the road (came across one of those at buller, an evo by chance). hell, a tree fell over the track at the bathurst 12 hours the other week!

so no need for anyone to carry on like a dickhead

Sure Dunc, understand there may have been some over-reaction (I don't know, I wasn't there), but there is quite a difference to between coming across a crashed car and one that is being deliberatly driven against the direction of traffic.

I don't even know if the Emo was running, he may have had a full view of Weeks coming up the road and was simply trying to roll it down hill to a safer spot? As always, there's two sides to a good story :)

Holy FAWK!

She'll be quick across the top of Cethana without that chicane! Without the chicane (for those who don't know), it'll read somethin like;

200 metres into eight right, 350 to nine right, 600 to ten right, (now doing, oh, 300klm/h!), 600m into 9 right over crest 250 to left 6 off camber tightens.....

LOL. I wanna go!!!!!!

I know, it's going to be bloody fast. I think Rianna will be pretty crazy with no chicanes (it's combined with natone again), those looong straights with all the crests in them, photgraphers will love it.

You know this but I'll spell it out.

That real fast shit is money, you need to spend a heap of time on those spots during recce so you know where you can hold the thing tapped. Of course you always need to ease the throttle if she's leaving terra firma, and mark your safe braking points so you can keep it flat for as long as you can knowing you can stop with confidence.

Might invest in a few tow trucks to sit somewhere near the 6L off camber...after a run like that to an off camber 6 there's going to be moments/carnage a plenty!

Damn you Rookie!!!!!!!! That said, little devo runs out of legs very quickly. She's only geared to 230ish in 5th, so would be sitting at 6.5-7k for a very long time there :)

No chicanes at all from what ive heard, ive got reservations on this idea though, not everyone that enters is a seasoned racer/professional etc

We'll see after this event if they actually have any impact or not from a safety aspect. I feel they might have added a bit of a buffer for the less competent.

remember chicains have not always been there, it was only 2003? they were introduced with not much populatity. the fast cars of the mid to late 90, some of which were boardering on sports sedans seemed to survive...and that was on road rubber.

If the average speed stays under the FIA imposed average speed limit for a stage, then by all means get rid of them!

I'm more concerned for the future of the sport regading the freedoms creeping in. I know when it was CAMS it was crazy, like if you wanted to run your GTR as N1 you have to have EVERY GENUINE N1 part on it, but to see these "specials" creeping in has me concerned.

    • That was the first session so not a lot to take from the day. It was low 20s ambient and the coolant had got to 110 (and obviously had some pressure!) so that still needs to be addressed. I haven't downloaded the data yet but will. I had refilled the auto trans with Redline DT6 because it claimed the best viscosity I could find at 100o. It wasn't really long enough to get a good feel for that; while the trans got to 100o in the session it still wasn't shifting crisply as I hoped. I think I'll try a few more sessions before judging. No steering motor overheat but I'd hope not in only 1 session! But finally the suspension; it was night and day over the standard stuff and the car was a couple of seconds quicker on the same crappy tyres, which is a huge difference. I'll stick with that and get some sway bars and a mechanical diff sorted too and see how that all goes together
    • I guess it’s partially a compromise of how my car is used, wanting to be able to switch from drift to grip with track side on-car adjustment. Also partially with the way the knuckles are set there is more static camber but less dynamic camber gain.
    • OK, so update from the track day on Friday It was a classic "an unfortunate series of events'. There were a few cars around and when i checked my mirror coming out of the fish hook I notice some smoke from the rear of mine. Looked again and it was getting much worse, I figured I'd blown a turbo or something to got off it and pulled off the racing line. However.... since it is a left hairpin into a right kink, I was on the inside of the next corner. There was a car passing me on the left and a big drop off over the ripple strip on the right......and someone had knocked the witch's hat that was on the apex about 1m onto the track. So, between those 3, I decided to mow down the cone and not damage my car/the other car. Right choice, but surprising result.  The car decided the cone was a small pedestrian so it blew the rear bonnet hinges up to protect their head in the upcoming person to car impact....I didn't see that coming and like an airbag deployment it happened super fast. Straight into the pits from there, everything was driving fine but it became clear it was a coolant leak not smoke, it was billowing up onto the windscreen. Onto the trailer and home. I'll do a separate thread about the repair (once I work out what it is ), but the immediate problem was the bonnet wouldn't open because the front was pinched onto the front bar and would not release. Ultimately we unbolted the hinge from the bonnet, pulled it back a little and it released from the front OK. "There's your problem", the top radiator hose had popped off at the radiator.
    • Yeah that looks like great caster, but I'd suggest trying less front camber some time and seeing if it helps with braking without reducing mid corner speed too much
    • I ended up setting the rear 5mm higher than normal to give some clearance.  My plan is to run the least camber I can in the rear which I think with the extra width is going to need to be -1.75 to -2.00° just to get clearance.  Guards have been rolled and pulled as much as they can/I would be wanting to.  front has the Acostal knuckle with the KPI change and the drop etc. So should be okay with the existing settings I have run with AR1s etc Front: Toe total -2mm(1mm out each side) Caster +7.5° Camber -3.8° Ackerman +15°
