Far out, ridiculously quick time! Congrats Mark and Russ

great to see someone go out there and put Mike Collin's WRX in its place finally! hehe but it is an awesome car and he knows that place like the back of his hand. so it really is an awesome effort to run those times for people who aren't that familiar with the track - it is a very technical little course.

That STi is an awesome package, I can see Michael pulling out all stops for the next round to try and break the 42.72 however. Will make for some interesting racing :P

yes, i am sure michael will be trying pretty hard to get the record back, but i was talking to him and he is building a pro class off road buggy too which is keeping him busy also.

michaels car is an awsome machine and he drives it super hard!

interestingly , we put a set on avons on the car for one run and took them back off as they werent upto it for our car, it appears the car is to heavy for them and they move around heaps on the sidewall which was costing time, we also noticed this at the maryborough sprints but didnt worry about changing them back .

i have a picture at home which i'll post and show you what the sidewalls were doing

this shows the r35 sliding

it is beautifully balanced!

Were You guys there running later in the night? I was over the road at Willowbank....should have gone for look if i knew you guys had the R35 there.

just saw the results. official record for the AWD class is now 43.08 by Mark and 5th outright!!! There were 9 open wheelers there, so that's just an incredible result! Mark ran the 42.72 in the top six shootout at the end of the day - but that run doesn't count towards your finishing position or class records because not everyone gets the extra run. I guess you guys will have to go back and lower that record again!

let us know in advance next time you guys go there!!!

On the weekend I just did an Audi R8 day down at Phillip Island and we put the clock to a couple of laps and got a 1.50.0 and a 1.50.2 which I can tell you I found staggering in a stock prodution car on street tyres. Apparently the race dude they had there (Christian Murchison) had done a high 1.48 earlier in the week.

Now I reckon one of the factors for such a great time was the DSG gearbox - it sure was impressive to use around the track - you can even downshift midcorner without the car so much as flinching. Awesome stuff.

And yet scary to think in Top Gear the R35 was roughly 5s per lap around the test track faster than the R8.....

how can i get into one of these r8 track days man, id love to go down.

Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
