278.5rwkw on the Willall Mainline to 302.2rwkw on the BW Dyno Dynamics, any changes made between the two runs? Interesting if there wasn't. Then again RB25DETS2 was within half a kilowatt from one to the other.

By the way, Adrian/Martin, what sized injectors is it running to make that power on E85?

Yo, Adrian (sorry, I couldn't resist) guess what? Although I didn't have my GTS25t at the recent BW dyno day, not long before that day Shaun did a tuning dyno run that resulted in 302.3rwkw, and pretty much the same torque peak too.

Have I mentioned yet, that I'm keen to get the 780cc injectors fitted, HKS cams dialled in, E85 tune done and then wind the boost up? Hurry up and arrive injectors!

Yo, it's all good, i didn't mean to stir the pot, just thought it would be good to compare dyno runs from the same day, with varied turbo's

oh BTW, pull your finger out and start burning alcohol! :)

Ah not stirring the pot at all, mate. It's good to see this kind of raw data (dyno sheet info').

Oh don't worry, my finger would be dislocated and removed from my hand if I pulled it out any further! Just waiting on parts etc.

surely cubes n sky30 would have tourque monsters ?

Comparing the same car on the dyno all its showing is torque at the wheels in fourth gear for that given setup.

With the GT3076 .82 on the rb30det mine makes ~200rwkw by 3500rpm (472nm) and then 256rwkw by 4000rpm (594nm) holds on to that until 5000rpm where boost drops from 19psi to 17psi. By 6000rpm torque is back down to 490nm.

Peak power is made around 5000rpm where it holds flat until 6500rpm where it starts dropping off very slowly but not noticeable when your up it.

I've sorted the boost drop issue now so it will be going back on the dyno soooon but this time tweaking the adj. cam gears. Currently they are set to std 110lca inlet 115lca exhaust.

Fingers crossed I can squeeze another 20rwkw out of it on pump then off to E85 and see what she can do. Curious if it will push 340rwkw maybe 350rwkw from the lowly GT3076r.

180or200,

Get some cams in to yours. It really opened mine up, basically picked up close to 30rwkw without any change and now each degree bumps power up nicely.

The little wave in yours is similar to mine and I believe what whatsisname was experiencing.

Matt.... I believe you said since throwing on that big fmic the top end wave disappeared?

Shauns told me thats my problem; most likely the case as I'm still running the fmic that was only ever designed for 200rwkw. 450x280x90 but with (gasp) 2" piping.

To make it worse the 2" piping does a 180degree bend and heads back under the intercooler. :)

But yours doesn't show the same on the mainline... Maybe a little tyre slip?

Martin does it look like tyre slip?

Impressive result none the less.

Shaun didnt log boost, but i'm sure it was within 1-2 psi, Afr's were fine when i checked the morning of DD run, and my 740 nismo's were at 100% duty on both dyno's

Correct.....250.7 Boostworx

251.1 Willall

259.7 on Aussies DD in power mode

Adrian i will post my sheet up tomorrow its making a smidge under 400NM's on Boostworx DD.

1 or 2psi more would make a slight difference, depending on a host of variables. But either way, it's solid power and a great increase running on booze.

All within a handful of kilowatts, Lee.

Curious how Guilt-Toy is getting 370rwkw odd out of his 740 injectors on E85. :S

Lambda .86 is considered max power lean (which your already sitting on) so who knows. :S

A little OT but this injector size calc.

http://www.megamanual.com/flexfuel.htm

500hp needs 71lb/hr injectors. 71lb/hr is 750cc. 300rwkwish is around 500hp at the fly given the DD Dyno estimate 70-75rwkw drive train loss.

550hp = 830cc

600hp = 900cc

Thats a lot of injector. Nothing a little fuel pressure can't fix. :)

Spot on, Joel. In all my dyno runs pre the 'big' cooler it had that nasty top end fluctuation. Once the big cooler went in it disappeared.

Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to see if dialling the cams in or adding more boost will bring the issue back as Shaun has been so busy we haven't had a chance to play again.

The other major issue that might have caused a few problems in terms of peak power figures with my thing is the Mickey Thompson rubber - they don't like the knurled rollers at all. It was spitting out peak numbers all over the shop, from 270 to 290+. I'll have to put something a bit more suitable on the rear from now on.

Matt,

My curve is smooth until I push over 270rwkw. Once I do it starts to have a tinny little wave.

Valve springs have been done, cams done, exhaust is fine just the FMIC left.

Shaun said mine wasn't slipping on the rollers and it was airflow related - then points at the fmic. :)

Quite surprised the 2" piping with a 180degree bend has managed to get so far.

Be interesting to see how you go joel, are you still using the stock plenum?

I couldnt get mine past 312kw with the stock manifolds, it would make peak power at 5800 then drop off real bad.

Yes, very interesting indeed!

By the way, Joel, it would appear you and I are aiming at exactly the same territory. I would like to see another 15-20rwkw from tuning the cams and adding some additional boost, and then switch to E85 for a few extra kilowatts on top. 340-350rwkw would be nice.

Yep, that cooler and piping would be well out of their intended range.

We sorted the 'little' cooler issue, but mine certainly had slipping on the rollers issues - it was smoking on the rollers.

Speaking of cams what benefits can be had? I have heard anywhere from 15-30rwkw at the same boost would i be correct in asuming this. I have also read somewhere that a set of cams tuned correctly can bring boost on a couple of hundred rpm earlier. Is it a worthwhile investment considering i would be looking at around $2000 for purchase fitting and tuning. Any info would be great.

Also curious if it hits a brick wall.

Did you port match the inlet and exhaust manifolds including the turbo to manifold. I spent days doing mine. :S

Hopefully you say no and that is what the brick wall was.

The exhaust manifold ports to head were way off as was the turbo to manifold. I smoothed everything out as much as I could. Inlet manifold plenum to runners wasn't 'too' bad but runners to head were a fair bit off.

The nicest benefit i noticed is it seems like the turbo makes boost quicker on gear changes and in the lower gears.

Seems to bring the turbo on harder and sharper especially in the lower gears which is always nice. :)

So the above + the top end stopped falling off hard and now basically holds flat to 7000rpm.

As I said above mine picked up close to 30rwkw BUT the std rb25de cams are fairly small 240(which is ok) but the exhaust side is 232 7.3mm. RB20det's and rb25dets run the usual 240dur 7.8mm lift exhaust cam.

Mine are a set of regrinds from Tighe cams. 265/263duration 8.9mm lift. 221duration at 0.050". I've been told the ramp is fairly healthy and wouldn't want to go much more on hydraulic lifters.

Unsure if Martin has had any jap cams profiled in the past for comparison?

I've got 256 8.8mm/264 9.0mm HKS cams in mine. I saw a peak power gain of 20rwkw - dyno'd before and after, same day, same dyno.

I took the big lumps out the head exh ports, and exh manifold, didnt bother with the inlet manifold as it was pretty good match, what did you do?

Cheers cubes sounds like they could be on the cards in the next six months or so. I just got to keep reminding myself that its still a standard bottom end hence me only running 15psi on a turbo and set up thats capable of much more. :D

    • Lets say I wanted to buy this, specifically for this purpose. How do I actually perform the function. Can I still buy a Consult-1? Am I about to be burned by the fact my car is a 2000 model Series 2 R34 and thus will be some stupid other system? Do I just need this -> https://obd2australia.com.au/product/nissan-consult-14-pin-to-usb-ddl-diagnostic-interface-with-ftdi-ft232r-chip/ And with what software?
    • That's probably OK. That's a face to face compression joint between two surfaces with the clamping load provided by those bolts. So.... it's unlikely that the bolts will end up feeling that load in shear, unless the clamping surfaces are not large enough, bolts not got enough tension on them, etc etc to prevent the two faces from moving wrt each other. Which... I would hope the designers have considered, seeing as it's probably one of the most important things the upright has to do apart from resist collapsing in its own right. But yes, it would definitely be worth asking them what their safety factor on that part of the design was. I tend to think that the casting, being a casting, is not necessarily the strongest bit of material in the world. It's about an inch square, and when you think about the loads that are being put into it, you have to wonder what safety factor the Nissan boys (and every other OEM engineer who has designed all the millions of other uprights that look essentially the same) used to account for defective casting, aging, severe impacts on the wheel, etc etc.
    • Those bolts would be orders of magnitude stronger that cast aluminium though.  And its mainly clamping force, not shear they are dealing with?
    • Except all that twisting force that is breaking a cast piece, appears to be going through 4 bolts in the picture Johnny posted of the BryPar one...
    • The smart approach is to use the gearbox loom from the manual car. Makes it a lot easier - just plugs into the switches on the box and plugs into the main loom up near the fusebox. Then you only need to deal with bypassing the inhibit switch. The other approach requires you to use the wiring diagram to identify those wires by colour and location, perhaps even indulging in a little multimeter action to trace them end to end to make sure, and then.... you will have the answers you need. The R34 wiring diagram is available on-line (no, I do not have a link to it myself - I would have to do a search if I wasn't able to go to the copy I have at home).
