Anyone know where i can purchase some CF sheet, i need a sheet about 600mm x 600mm x 0.5mm. I have googled and looked up the yellow pages but the closest place i can find is in Germany.

If anyone has old or damadged flat panels, ie bonnets or anything similar i may be interested.

Im building a new air box, this is actually going to be the third attempt, first was made from perspex which leaned on and stuffed it, second from aluminium which is to shinny so i thought CF was the obvious next choice.

Thanks MLR

they can sell you the carbon twill in different types- also the resins you need.

grab 2 sheets of glass and make your own. there was another carbon shop in castle hill but i cant remember the name of it, was close to where UAS used to be located.

If you ask at UAS, a guy a few shops down called Oddsocks does anything in CF

is this at the old location though on victoria avenue?

couldnt remember the company name for them when i wrote my last post

there is a group called southern cross composites i think? used to be on ebay selling it by the sheet

i got a piece 2x2 meters, cut out the buggery out of my bonnet and riveted it on... sold it for $500

all that was left that was steel was the outer 1 inch perimeter of the bonnet, and a small amount of reinforcement

Surely there is someone out there in beautiful skippy land that sells C/Fibre by the sheet. I too have looked and looked and can't find anybody.

I'm even having trouble finding someone that sells the weave!!!.

Neil.

hey Neil,

FMS has sold it to me but that was a while ago - did you check the link i posted earlier?

think i might start making up some sheeting someday soon, was waiting on confirmation of the best UV stable resin to use on it.

You know whats funny,,,I went back and did a google au search,,,turns out SAU are on to of the list who are after carbon fibre sheets.

Seems the only country that sells by the sheet is the UK and it's expensive and way too aussie dollar prohibitive. Bugger.

I know someone has to be making it here because the car I'll race against next year has a full front lower aero-kit made of it and I mean 4mm/5mm thick.

Neil.

what size sheets you after Neil ?

Chris I'm after sheets that will give me this. I need those extra riveted pieces for some more down-force over the back wheels. About 600mm long by about 200mm wide and about 3 or 4mm thick.

Try looking through the yellow pages and calling all the fibreglassers and boat builders in there and tell them what your after.

my dad is a fibreglass boat builder and they use carbon fibre for heaps of things.

one of the shops should have a flat mould large enough to make a sheet for you. just call and get a few qoutes to ensure you get a normal / cheap price. and they can make a one off piece for you..

I think the reason you cant find anything on google is becuase there isnt really a market for mass produced flat sheets of carbon. plus all the fibreglassers websites will only promote what they make not what they can make.

goodluck with your quest

hope all goes well.

Corey

most fiberglass suppliers have carbon or can get it for you, i know you want it pre fabbed but its so easy to make flat sheets with compsites its not funny just get a thin sheet of gal or any other large flat cheap material and use it as a "mould" wax it up then lay the clear gel once cured lay the carbon then back it up with glass or continue with the carbon. to get it off the gal just lift one side and curl over its self and ur flat sheet will release.

    • Was going to say the car pulls up nicely everywhere, especially going into that last long right hander before the main straight. Looks like a lot of fun.
    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
    • See if you can thermal epoxy a heatsink or two onto it?
    • The other problem was one of those "oh shit we are going to die moments". Basically the high spec Q50s have a full electric steering rack, and the povo ones had a regular hydraulic rack with an electric pump.  So couple of laps into session 5 as I came into turn 2 (big run off now, happily), the dash turned into a christmas tree and the steering became super heavy and I went well off. I assumed it was a tyre failure so limped to the pits, but everything was OK. But....the master warning light was still on so I checked the DTCs and saw – C13E6 “Heat Protection”. Yes, that bloody steering rack computer sitting where the oil cooler should be has its own sensors and error logic, and decided I was using the steering wheel too much. I really appreciated the helpful information in the manual (my bold) POSSIBLE CAUSE • Continuing the overloading steering (Sports driving in the circuit etc,) “DATA MONITOR” >> “C/M TEMPERATURE”. The rise of steering force motor internal temperature caused the protection function to operate. This is not a system malfunction. INSPECTION END So, basically the electric motor in the steering rack got to 150c, and it decided to shut down without warning for my safety. Didn't feel safe. Short term I'll see if I can duct some air to that motor (the engine bay is sealed pretty tight). Long term, depending on how often this happens, I'll look into swapping the povo spec electric/hydraulic rack in. While the rack should be fine the power supply to the pump will be a pain and might be best to deal with it when I add a PDM.
    • And finally, 2 problems I really need to sort.  Firstly as Matt said the auto trans is not happy as it gets hot - I couldn't log the temps but the gauge showed 90o. On the first day I took it out back in Feb, because the coolant was getting hot I never got to any auto trans issues; but on this day by late session 3 and then really clearly in 4 and 5 as it got hotter it just would not shift up. You can hear the issue really clearly at 12:55 and 16:20 on the vid. So the good news is, literally this week Ecutek finally released tuning for the jatco 7 speed. I'll have a chat to Racebox and see what they can do electrically to keep it cooler and to get the gears, if anything. That will likely take some R&D and can only really happen on track as it never gets even warm with road use. I've also picked up some eye wateringly expensive Redline D6 ATF to try, it had the highest viscosity I could find at 100o so we will see if that helps (just waiting for some oil pan gaskets so I can change it properly). If neither of those work I need to remove the coolant/trans interwarmer and the radiator cooler and go to an external cooler....somewhere.....(goodbye washer reservoir?), and if that fails give up on this mad idea and wait for Nissan to release the manual 400R
