to day i ran my 33 gtst down the 1/4 after a couple of passes at 12.2@123mph with a crap 60 foot of 2.2, i ran my best 60 foot at a 1.8 but right after i hit second gear a all mighty bang went off (back fire) and the car lost power for a split second so i came off the gas until 3/4 track and jump on it again and it felt fine ,i got back to the pit area and i noticed on when you lightly press the gas it runs like its missing ,i also noticed this in the last three runs leading up to my last run ,now i think its ???????? but what i would like is some input from some sau members on what they think it could be......thanks.

i had this problem with my car, it turned out to be the intercooler pipe

one of the vacuum lines came off the fuel pressure reg and for some reason (im not gonna pretend i know what im talking about here) it backfired and pretty much just died in the arse, it would idle but wouldnt accelerate, check your cooler piping, find the loose hose and reconnect it

ps. this was a right pain in the arse to diagnose and fix at 2am on scarb beach rd in the rain :P *shakes fist in a menacing fashion*

intercooler all good .

what i have noticed is that when the car is cold its fine andwhen its hot it plays up.

could be coil packs.i dont think its normal to happen so low in the rev range but i guess anything can happen ,there only 3 years old ,ill have to check them

has anyone got any more ideas

did you check the inside of the 90 deg bends the run through in in left inner gaurd

,

earth wire .....i noticed the earth wire on the turbo side is not there. does anyone have pics to what it is connected to cos ive got the earth wire i know one side is on the exhaust manifold but have no idea what it plugs into.

o and could this be part of my problem. :D

hey warlord

try pumping compressed air into your intake system with a compressor.

i do this about every 6 months as it shows up any leaks in the system.

the easiest way i have found is undoing the clamp where your afm is, getting a plastic freezer

bag putting over the afm and then reinstalling the afm and doing the clamp up.

you can then use a trigger nozzle from your air comp stick into the fuel reg hose and pump 2 bar

into your intake system.

a lot of leeks wont show up unless there under pressure so this is the quickest and easiest way that i have found

and works every time.

and also a poor earth wont do the engine any good put it that way.

thanks !!!!!

what do you recommend i use for a earth cable, and the best place to put it.

Yeah i do. Hope i can explain this well.

Behind the power steering resevoir, on the strut tower down near the turbo intake, there should be a little gold piece of metal, the black connector just slides over that.

    • I found a supplier for an arm in NZ. https://thrashgaragenz.com/products/nissan-skyline-v35-z33-350z-front-lower-straight-arm-rh-side?srsltid=AfmBOopMdfCFDc_8yVZZ9kq5nIngPHRTBzUU8v4SAptJaRO52Wjs0bC6 I looked closely at the photo of that one and the Z1 arm, and it's the same bloody arm. Scratches all match in the photo 😂 How hard is it to change that joint? Also they seem to be listing two options https://thrashgaragenz.com/products/nissan-skyline-v35-z33-350z-front-lower-straight-arm-balljoint-rh-side?_pos=1&_sid=229acde44&_ss=r And now I have no idea what size I'd need yay
    • Ill review it again, from memory when I first saw some of Trailer Park Boys I wasn't a huge fan. I ended up at Letter Kenny after watching Shoresy, which is a bit ass backward, ha ha
    • "lol dunno" either But like you, I can't see any reason they would need to be different LHD to RHD
    • I agree with you WRT the hard top. MX5's may be one of the better looking soft tops but I cannot think of ANY car, EVER that looks better with a soft top vs a hard top (or a designed roof). At all, ever. I also feel this way about the C5 Vette, the Z06 looks horrible compared to it's original form, it has an exaggerated version of the differences you're talking about.
    • Hey crew, Failed my WOF cause of a lower control arm, and I've decided to hit both arms, and also the compression rods at the same time(seems they're gonna be the most likely upcoming failure points from some discussions with the lads over on the G35 reddit). I've looking at these form Z1:  https://www.z1motorsports.com/front-suspension/hayaku-automotive/hayaku-g35-front-compression-rod-p-40716.html https://www.z1motorsports.com/front-suspension/hayaku-automotive/hayaku-g35-front-lower-control-arm-p-40674.html I asked Z1 if they'd work as it's the same platform, just RHD vs LHD. I basically got told "Lol dunno". Specifically they aren't aware of any difference but can't guarantee fitment as they haven't done it on a 350GT. So guess I'm asking is if there is any issues with using 2005 G35 coupe suspension parts on a 2005 350GT coupe? Orginally I thought it could be something in the way of the arms that each control arm is designed to be positioned around, but that'd be an engineering nightmare for Nissan needing two different shaped control arms 😅
