Hey fallas,

Just thought I'll bring this to everyone's attention.

I noticed that the number of car vandalism cases in the Western suburbs have risen in recent months.

Last month a mate of mine had his R34 GTR smashed, keyed and thousands of dollars in accessories stolen from his car in the Sunshine area.

Last week another mate of mine had his s15 keyed and windows smashed, which appeared to be a random case of 'bullshit attacks.'

Then comes my case - this morning at around 4am in the morning, my car's alarm went spastic, I rushed out only to find that some arsehole just smashed my car's passenger's-side window. They fled with only my wallet, some cash and my yearly met-card (which will be cancelled and replaced by work) - but yeah, now I gotta get my window replaced. To make it worst, this was parked on the drive way inside my front yard and metres from my bed room - what the heck is going on?

So anyway, tough luck but just thought I'll bring it to your attention - so, if you go to watch a later movie at the Sunshine movie complex, bring a shitbox or risk having your car stolen or vandalised - it's farked!

BTW, if anyone has a spare R33 passenger's-side window - please PM or call me asap.

Many thanks,

Kevin

Why did you leave your wallet in your car anyway, what should i say?

Hey mate,

It wasn't a wallet as such, it's a small Oroton business-card wallet - had some of my ank cards, drivers license and my business cards and minimal cash. But yeah... man... seriously....

Shit man... ...Sorry to hear about that...

I know my car can been seen from the street... ...but with two other cars in front of it and another three closer to the street... ...all behind a six foot steel gate with motion lights... ...I hope it just looks like too much effort to get to mine...

But if they want to get to it... ...they'll get to it... ...that's just the sad fact of it...

same shit happened to my last 32...some idiots most likely from the area had the balls enough to break into my car at my house and rip out the cd player...not even safe at home anymore mind you my house is on a court kind of hidden away from main roads and have never had any problems...best way to avoid would be to lock up in a garage if your in such a bad area like sunshine.

like if ur wallet and few other little things were stolen..they should of smashed open a vl or commohore.

nah but sorry to hear man...joys of owning a skyline

same i live in sunshine aswell

a few weeks ago ive noticed some 4wd car camping infront of my house at like 5am in morning. When ever u would come outside he would turn on his high beams and floor it out of there. think he was trying to scout and find out times of when people wake up/leave etc.

now instead of parking it in the driveway its in the back yard blocked by 3 other cars. now all i need is a trained attack dog.

lol

Thanks fellas,....

Yeah, it sucks... just the hassle... gotta get my annual work-provided Metcard replaced, the usual process of cancelling-reissuing process of bank cards and drivers license etc...

And there's the window - I've actually got 4-5 PM's about replacement windows, so at least SAU members are helpful... now just a bit of extra money out the window and time and this should be fixed.

Thanks fellas.

Like most have noticed - watch out if you live in Footscray through to the Sunshine area...

Now you go camp outside and wait for the 4wd :D:huh:

Sorry to hear esp considering the car was in your driveway.

Compared to thefts there are very few random attacks of vandalism on a car...sure you get the keying's but most are thefts. The thing is that someone who is looking to steal something from a car will rarely do so unless they look in and can see stuff that they are after. The facts are that they aren't going to risk getting caught because they *might* find something and secondly if your car isn't an easy target then there are plenty of others around with wallets/laptops/cash/nav mans etc in plain sight.

Simple...don't leave wallets/cash/anything worth $ in your car and you will reduce the chance of your car being broken into.

Sorry to here the bad news kevin.

I live in St. Albans and work in Sunshine and yet to have any problems. It's just a random thing.. not necessarily because were from Sunshine etc.

But its sad theirs idiots out there that have no morals who pray on the innocent.. but with their lifestyle they live it won't be long before they turn up dead in a creek :(

u forgot the big rotteweiler standing guard behind your gate

srsly... you would have to be an idiot to leave a skyline there ESP at night!

the guy saw a wallet and took it. the wallet could have been in a shitter and he still would have taken it. i feel for ya and all but you did leave your wallet in the car. i dont get what the sunshine complex has to do with your break in in your driveway? unfortunately desperate people do desperate things so dont leave things to tempt them. ive had people go through the parents car and stuff in our driveway. its a pain in the ass to make all these precautions especially cause its your own driveway but it is the world we live in.

hope you get your car back on the road soon.

i live in melton and leave my car out at night at mates joints and late at the shopping center sometimes... havnt really had any trouble just the odd occasion i see people looking at maybe a little too closely

Thanks, Tai - appreciate your words.

Pisses me off seriously - I mean, if it's a crack or scrap then at least I can still drive my hideous car around, but a broken window... I can't drive it anywhere as I can't live it parked, so it's basically off the road and has been so for a few weeks.

Man, I'm still trying to get a replacement window for it... a few interstate guys are saying then can get me one, but it's the delays and hassles that I really want to avoid - would prefer local - but everyone wants a ridiculous price.

If anyone has a cheap window they want to sell, please contact me.

Thanks all.

    • Have a look at that (shitty) pic I posted. You can see AN -4 braided line coming to a -4 to 1/8 BSPT adapter, into a 1/8 BSPT T piece. The Haltech pressure sender is screwed into the long arm of the sender and factory sender (pre your pic) into the T side. You can also see the cable tie holding the whole contraption in place. Is it better than mounting the sender direct to your engine fitting......yes because it removes that vibration as the engine revs out 50 times every lap and that factory sender is pretty big. Is it necessary for you......well I've got no idea, I just don't like something important failing twice so over-engineer it to the moon!
    • Yup. You can get creative and make a sort of "bracket" with cable ties. Put 2 around the sender with a third passing underneath them strapped down against the sender. Then that third one is able to be passed through some hole at right angles to the orientation of the sender. Or some variation on the theme. Yes.... ummm, with caveats? I mean, the sender is BSP and you would likely have AN stuff on the hose, so yes, there would be the adapter you mention. But the block end will either be 1/8 NPT if that thread is still OK in there, or you can drill and tap it out to 1/4 BSP or NPT and use appropriate adapter there. As it stands, your mention of 1/8 BSPT male seems... wrong for the 1/8 NPT female it has to go into. The hose will be better, because even with the bush, the mass of the sender will be "hanging" off a hard threaded connection and will add some stress/strain to that. It might fail in the future. The hose eliminates almost all such risk - but adds in several more threaded connections to leak from! It really should be tapered, but it looks very long in that photo with no taper visible. If you have it in hand you should be able to see if it tapered or not. There technically is no possibility of a mechanical seal with a parallel male in a parallel female, so it is hard to believe that it is parallel male, but weirder things have happened. Maybe it's meant to seat on some surface when screwed in on the original installation? Anyway, at that thread size, parallel in parallel, with tape and goop, will seal just fine.
    • How do you propose I cable tie this: To something securely? Is it really just a case of finding a couple of holes and ziptying it there so it never goes flying or starts dangling around, more or less? Then run a 1/8 BSP Female to [hose adapter of choice?/AN?] and then the opposing fitting at the bush-into-oil-block end? being the hose-into-realistically likely a 1/8 BSPT male) Is this going to provide any real benefit over using a stainless/steel 1/4 to 1/8 BSPT reducing bush? I am making the assumption the OEM sender is BSPT not BSPP/BSP
    • I fashioned a ramp out of a couple of pieces of 140x35 lumber, to get the bumper up slightly, and then one of these is what I use
    • I wouldn't worry about dissimilar metal corrosion, should you just buy/make a steel replacement. There will be thread tape and sealant compound between the metals. The few little spots where they touch each other will be deep inside the joint, unable to get wet. And the alloy block is much much larger than a small steel fitting, so there is plenty of "sacrificial" capacity there. Any bush you put in there will be dissimilar anyway. Either steel or brass. Maybe stainless. All of them are different to the other parts in the chain. But what I said above still applies.
