It basicly a race where you do as many laps as you can in 12 hours, you can go solo or in teams of 2,3,4,6 and mixed male/female.

more info here http://www.wa12hour.com.au/

its pretty good, atmosphere is great, the commentary goes on all night over the PA system, theres a coffee van going all night too!

The one problem i have found with the 12 hour is not much goes into advertising, so the numbers have been dropping over the years, the guys that run it do it volenteer their own time, so without them, the event wouldnt happen, so it would a huge loss if it were to be cancelled due to low numbers.

rahahaha

yeah sure why not, you work in city? we can do bridges on a lunch break if you're keen i work east end of hay street at the moment

yeah mate,

I am in Kandahar, Afghanistan.... Just down the road.

I will start riding now and see you in say 6 years!

Keen for a bridges ride, but will also being doing Doubleview down to Freo and then into the City and Home in the coming weeks once home

i hate fixies.

i hate that my bike is in their category. "oh you got a fixy do ya?"

i hate people who ride fixies.

i hate the false sense of superiority they have about their bikes which are merely a fashion accessory.

i hate that people who cannot ride a regular bike opt to ride a dangerous fixwheeled bike along a busy stretch of road. and will not stop at a red light because of the fact that they don't know how to stop them.

i hate that their general demographic choose not to wear a helmet or have any lighting on their bike or reflectors or brakes. because it "ruins the lines of the bike."

infact i hate people who ride with no helmet in general. don't use the excuse "it's my perogative if i dont want to wear one, i deal with the consequences." because it's not. if a car hits them, then driver has to live with that. as does your family, and your friends. you don't see driver's saying "it's my perogative if i wanna wear a seatbelt or not, i deal with the consequences" so wear your f**king helmet.

resting your helmet on your handlebars is not wearing your helmet.

female riders. putting your helmet in your basket is not wearing your helmet.

i hate that people use the excuse "i don't ride often so i don't bother with lights". you don't see motorists saying "i dont DRIVE often so i dont bother switching on my lights"

or

this was a good one,

"i dont have lights cos i only ride on the footpaths - dont need a light to ride on the footpath"

one - it's illegal to ride on footpath completely. two. you're hurting downt he footpath at about 25/30kmh on some superwide mountain bike. pedestrians can't see you. you can't see them.

grow a brain.

to me - a fixy is a cheap 10 speed frame, that weighs heaps because it's made of dirty old steel. with some overpriced paintjob worth more than the bike itself. deepV wheelsets for fashion. not for function (not that velocity wheels are that functional. i hear they're prone to cracking)

a fixy is a bike that wieghs heaps and goes slow due to it's weight, in conjunction with the drivetrain geared ridiculously high (47T/15T) that they can't get up any hills

my bike may "look" like a fixy because it looks cool in the eyes of a fixy rider. but cannondale caad frames are lightweight. and the geometry is far more responsive than a shitty "fixy". and drop bars are handy for riding aero.

that said - i do have a chip on my shoulder and cannot wait to do this bike race this sunday against all he roadies =)

I want a fixie, sell me one?

Spanner in the works?

you only just realised that fixies are a fashion accessory and if it wasn't for that reason they would never have been made again other than for track riding? wow, talk about slow, LOL.

as for the helmet and lights, i like to use the example "what gives you the right to decide what laws you obey and what you don't? in that case i'm going to ignore the law and murder you"

as for riding on the footpath, that is a local/state thing. in qld you are allowed to ride on the footpath unless otherwise signed.

oh and the old fixies are the ones that weigh heaps. they are the ones that are worth lots because they are collectors items because they are originals. pretty much all the new ones will be lightweight alloy frames like yours. some of the cheaper ones (like the apollo ones) will be cromo frames, but they are only $700. the alloy frames are made by the companies who designers are the types who think they are a good idea. the chromo frames are made by the companies who think they are a shit idea and are only doing them to make money, LOL

haha - yeah all above posts are true - and i have known forever that fixies are a fashion accessory - but only recently on a visit to the cafe strip have i noticed that they are dangerously ridden by people who CANNOT RIDE

for instance - i would be on a bike regardless, mountain, track, road, racer, whatever.. because i love riding - i like single speed because it's more of a challenge than with gears for training purposes - plus, personal preference, i like the un-interrupted handlesbars without the integrated brake handles, i like to drape my fingers along that to lock my arms out at steeper angle..

but people who ride fix gear and can't ride to begin with - that's dangerous!

macdog - what is your budget for a fixgear? my opinion will obviously be viewed as bias - however my opinion the cannondale capo is the ducks nuts. this is comparing it having ridden:

specialized langster

masi

trek soho S - (IMO this is the WORST frame ever. sluggish as f**k)

Giant bowery '72

Giant Bowery mashup

if you're looking for a good ride - get a capo and pay the extra

if you're looking for hipster bling..

Cheers for the input mate,

I like the look of the first one (mongoose) how much is that?

I'm also trying to sell my Road bike http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Gt...l=gtr+road+bike

I just want something a bit different, less maintenance as well, I see fixies all the time in the city, some pretty good ones at that.

the guys that ride them in the city are crazy, I don't know how they survive a days work being a courier, they go through red lights hold on to trams, but i suppose they get the job done FAST! haha

Fck... the cannondale one you mentioned looks awesome, i want that one... who in melbourne has that and do you know how much it is?

Edited by macdog

personally i see nothing wrong with your road bike... but if you want to get something different by buying the same thing as everyone else then go right on ahead...

haha

but seriously if you're looking at getting the cannondale capo then i can't think of anything that can surpass it's speed. most road racers struggle to keep up with me until i hit an uphill.. then i beat them on the uphill cos the lower gear ratio means i can smash them easier..

another advantage is the drop bars with the aero brakes..

capo is worth about $1600 RRP but i paid a bit over a grand as a clearance, the 2009 is white on grey with purple chain and purple wraps

capo_09.jpg

^^ pic doesn't do it justice... you can't see the white rims there...

i've swapped the purple chain and wraps out for white cork wraps.. light blue KMC chain and hot pink gussett pedals..

look cool but mroe for function - bigger pedals means more agressive stomp, which is what you need on a track bike..

for 2010 the capo has been released in the following liveries

b0111222_22481241.jpg

ultra faggoty hipster chrome

and

this wicked ass black

0PR2_blk.jpg

both are avail in drop or flat bar... i suggest drop to be different to all the homers out there :)

If only there were more cyclists like you mate! your a pisser... hahahaha

Keep up the good work, I'm going to stop by St.kilda cycles to see how much they will offer me for my GTR and then try and get a good deal on the black bike.

However i did like the look of the Purple chain and purple handle bars on the other one...

Cheers for your help again.

Do you ride with brakes?

yes i do - on account of i don't want to go under a bus - but lately for something different i have been thinking about attaching a fix cog to the other side of the hub to see what all the fuss is about... but not too worried

i cruise at about 35/45kmh most times so if fixie riders wanna tease me for riding with brakes and freewheel then be my guest and settle it in a race.

pink slips is all i bet

wait - no brakes and fixed wheel?

so how DO you stop said bike?

You

A. Use your weight to manouvre the bike turn sharply stuff like that...

or

B. Jump off your bike and fall

or

C. Hit whatever is coming at you! hahaha

you left out ....

D: make your knees explode by trying to push against the pedals spinning

also rowan, i think you will find that the capo weighs a bit more than 5.5kg. it would probably be closer to 7 or 8kg. maybe even 9kg. redline do a kids race bike designed for 5yr olds that is basically a mini fixie which weighs in at 5.7kg. a high end carbon road bike will come in at 7kg. yes that has the extra weight of the gears, but the extra weight of the gears would be 500g max. (10 speed dura-ace cassette weighs 163 grams, which would be canceled out by the weight of the freewheel, derailleurs weigh a bit under 240 grams for the pair and the shifter part of the brake lever would weigh about 250g for the pair as well. and then once you take into account the fact that dura-ace cranks weigh about 250grams or more less than the cranks on the capo, plus the brake calipers weigh at least 100g less, pluss the fact that a carbon frame usually weighs a few hundred grams less than an alloy frame, i'd say that your bike would easily weigh well over 7kg)

    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
    • No those pads are DBA too  but they have colors too. I look at the and imo the green "street" are the best.
    • I’m not sure what happened I told them about sonic tunes free OTS tune and the next the I know .. I was booted..   To funny
    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
