Hey guys. I've got r32 gts-t thats makin 220rwkw. Thinking about spending some money on the brakes (rotors pretty stuffed). At the moment full original. Just do motorkanas and the odd drift practice. Is it worth looking at upgrading to something better like R32-33 Gtr brakes. If so i was wondering whats involved to bolt these on and a rough cost to do it. Or are the R32 standard brakes not to bad anyway. Is it worth replacing my rotors with standard size things (I'm thinking of going slotted) and getting some decent pads. Both my front and rear brakes need attention. Is there much difference between the price of new rubber brake lines compared to braided? I'm thinking of getting braided ones.

I think this could be the first time i have ever posted this. But perhaps do a search, there are plenty of good threads on this topic.

Basically, i fyou can get your hands on R33 or R32 GTR brakes cheaply enough then its not a bad budget upgrade when used in conjunciton with the best rotors you can affors, some good pads (as much as you can affors) and some braided lines for a freshen up.

But you need to budget about $1300 - $1600 which is getting up there....but brakes are important

I upgraded to R32 GTR items on the front on my Gts everything bolts straight in the only drama

I had was the Nissan logo on the caliper was about 2mm clearance from my Gts

rims so what I did was file and grind the logo away and hi-temp paint them.The

rear brakes on the 32 Gts are the same as a GTR so no need to upgrade them.

I did notice a big difference on the track no fade at all so its a good budget upgrade

but the 33 GTR brembos would be far better again all depends on your budget.

hey guys when i bought my car i was told the car had r33 calipers on the front, how can i tell if they are r33 items? car is a r32gtst.

has anyone got a pic of them side by side would be interesting to see the size difference.

also where do you guys get your Bendix Ultimates I've only seen the standard Bendix ones on shelves!

i am also thinking about doing a fluid flush is there much difference in performance between the difference brands, was thinking of trying some penrite stuff. how much do you need to fill the whole system?

hey mate

r33 gts-t bracks are only 2mm smaller in diamiter then r32 gtr.

i would recermend getting r33 gts-t brackes all round as they are 4pot calipers and simmer sized to r32 gtr.

plus they are easy to find (find a wrecked 33 gts-t)

then get some DBA slotted disc (they can be costly i think they are about $350-$400 pr disc for the 4000 series for the front)

and some good pads and brake fluid.

Hi battery the easiest way to check if you have R33 brakes on your car is to measure

the dia of the rotor and the thickness the difference between the two are

R32 280 X 30

R33 296 X 30

I got my bendix ultimate through just jap there about $100 per set

Project U rotors are replacement rotors based on std sizes unless its a

complete replacement upgrade. The min thickness should be stamped

on rotor.As someone mentioned the only difference between R33 Gts

and R32 GTR is 2mm difference in thickness still the same 296mm in

dia,so if it turns out you only have R32 Gts brakes and wish to go bigger

the R33 are also a cheap upgrade option

r33 brake/rotor setup are only slighty larger than a r32 gtst setup.

Just get a set of RDA slotted rotors (look in group buy section) and some QFM A1RM (also known as K750) brake pads and you'll have plenty of stopping power with the r32 calipers.

However if you have money to spend, you can always try the r33 calipers, but then you will also need to buy proper rotors and brake pads too.

Brake upgrade for the r32 gtst:

This is a conversion i've just finished on my own car, to do the conversion you'll need the following:

1. Two front calipers from an r33 gtst

2. Two front discs (296mm X 30mm) also from an r33 gtst

3. Brake pads to suit

4. Slightly longer brake lines for both sided...(i forgot to measure but you'll see when you do the conversion)

Then all you do is literally bolt the new discs and calipers on and hey presto big brakes on a budget, its also been said that the r32 gtr discs and calipers will bolt straight onto an r32 gtst giving you 330mm X 32mm discs but since i've not tried this myself i'm not 100% sure.

R32 GTR and R33 GTSt brakes are exactly the same diameter - 296mm. DBA charts explain that:

R32 GTR rotors are 32mm new - 30mm when f**ked.

R33 GTSt rotors are 30mm new - 28mm when f**ked.

I have 33gtst brakes all round (I know the rears are the same but I did the lot so all the calipers were newer and matched) - $500 for full set of rotors/calipers. Braided lines, bendix ultimates and a master cylinder stopper. Stops pretty well and no fade or anything at the last track day.. also managed to pull me up after I decided to grab 4th on the short back straight at a local track (it's not a 4th gear straight :banana:).

    • I seem to the be only person that is using a Haltech 2500 on an NA motor, I've installed a Bosch DBW throttle body to the OEM intake manifold and am having problems maintaining AFR even with the wideband o2.  It will run extremely rich at idle and up to redline, but under load it will go extremely lean in the 20s and i'm essentially having to rev it over 4k and feather the clutch to get it up to speed.  I've read a few other threads of about the butterfly, it seems removing the vacuum to it is supposed to have it remain open, i've noticed no difference under 4k with the vacuum line to it plugged.  I'm hoping someone here has had luck using the NA manifold with Haltech, and if they happen to have a tune for it.  
    • I don't know any details, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they do it as a LHD only version, at least initially.
    • Thanks for the replies everyone. Definitely a coolant push. Oil catch can is empty and always has been. As the engine is out now I'll be having a good look over things. I do have some detonation on the piston tops from a trigger issue back about 5 years ago. I felt it and shut off then bought a new ecu and changed the trigger. Never been an issue since. It never hurt the power, its made almost 80hp more since that incident but I will pull the bearing caps to take a look. If the bearings are damaged I will do a bottom end refresh. Head is being re conditioned at the moment and the block will be cleaned and checked to ensure it's flat. I'll go with a kameari gasket and see how it ends up. The other thing I'm not super keen on is the cylinder colours. I suspect this is from the inlet manifold. The plan will be to put it back together, retune and then stick a plazmaman billet inlet on it and retune. I'm happy with the power, if it makes a little more, then great, but I would rather just make everything more efficient at this stage.

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
