Hey Ian... this is probably the 101st thread on R34 vs S15. Probably a good idea to do a search before posting.

btw.. it's the skyline forum, so long as it has an RB i'm sure everyone would vote for it.

GDay Ian,

U R looking at 2 very nice cars. And may I add, you'd probably be happy with either, not having the traffic probs that we have on the mainland.

As a daily, I'm wondering about whether or not you are going to ever take more than 1 passenger. If so, the R34 has a little bit extra room for the person's toes & I think that perhaps he/she won't be sitting so low either.

Suspn: perhaps the S15 will be a bit harsher and it'll also depend on the existing setup

Cornering: both real good. S15 may be a bit more controlled when it steps out I think

Power: both real good

Depreciation: don't know about Tassie but I'm probably leaning towards the R34 here

Hope my little bit helps...

Tez :D

I'd be pretty sure the s15 will be better on petrol while still performing very well. With just an exhaust and some boost combined with the fact that it is a fair bit lighter than the r34 it can have quite a fair bit of shove but still be good on petrol.

I know a mate that had the same 2 cars in mind and at the time I tried to push him towards the r34. After he got his s15 and I drove it i think he made the right choice. Its fun to drive and can look very nice but the main thing that turns me off them is the sr20's sound. They can make great power and are very impressive but just sound like a fart... I thought about these cars also but went with a 32 GTR in the same price range instead.. could not be happier!

thanks for you imput guys :P

Im 6"7 so wouldn't mind some extra room i was *cozy* in my S13, it's not often i do have a car load usually me and 1 passanger, The only really thing that puts me off the S15's are the SR20 as you said sound like a fart. Had a Rb20 in my silvia and loved the sound of it. Only thing that puts me off the R34 is fuel consumption :D

Also Howie thanks heaps for that topic you wrote up about fuel consumption in your R34 found it very helpful :D

Really depends...

Given your height - R34

Fuel economy - S15

Cornering - S15

Power - R34

Cop attention - S15

More unique - R34

Depreciation - Not really 100% sure but i would say the R34

So overall they're both pretty even it really comes down to your taste mate. We cant really make a decision for you there..

Good luck

I can't think of a better reason to buy an R34 than "NS.com told me not to".

That said, if I was facing your choice I'd get the S15. I don't like the sound of the SR compared to the RB, but it is a lighter and more nimble car.

At your height, however, the bigger car might be more comfortable.

S14/S15 are both more cramped than an S13 as I found out (im 6 foot 5) but still driveable :) I actually found r34 gtt's to be the most cramped out of the lot, far less room then a s13 but still manageable

stock for stock an s15 will handle better and will respond to suspension mods a little better however rb's are easier to get power out of

go the best of both worlds with rb26 s15 :)

Those are the 2 cars I was making my choice from, and I went with the R34. Very happy indeed!

As for fuel consumption, I have 180rwkw and get about 500-550km out of a tank or there abouts so imo not too bad.

And the R34 just shits all over the silvia looks wise as well :D lol

All in all Im sure you would enjoy either car.

RB FTW!

on the issue of room, i'm 6'6" last time i checked, and imma fat c*nt to boot, and i genuinely found the S15 more liveable than the R34, although i dont think either is a realistic option, but i dont have that much money anyway :D

i drove the cars at different times, and drove other cars in between, so my review might be slightly flawed, but it felt as though the S15 picked up quicker. its a bit lighter, plus 6 speed box with shorter ratios helps there. car felt a bit lighter on its feet, and was more eager to be pushed through corners, although i didnt really thrash it much (was test driving for a mate) and the S15 *MAY* have had a set of coilovers in it

R34 with be easier to get bigger power out of, and gearbox is tough as nails, S15 will still get you plenty of power for a daily, but you may have issues with the top end and the gearbox

drive both and see what YOU think

well after a long debate, i have decided to for with the R34 i found one at a fairly good price :P just like the look of them a little better and found for my size the R34 looks after me a little better :) Head up to NSW on tuesday and pick it up :) thanks for all your opions guys :)

    • This sounds very old of me, however since buying the Tiguan shit box, my view on shit boxes have changed.
    • I've looked up the parts number (41011AL501). It's around $700 OEM. Usually our Infiniti G35 here in Canada have interchangeable parts with my Stagea but the parts number are not the same. I have looked around and it seems the JDM 2005 V35 Skyline (which is the same as our G35) has the same caliper but I cannot confirm. And I can't find a repair kit. The inner brake pads drags on the rotor, seems to be rusty piston. Thanks for the info by the way
    • This coupled with 6-9 speed autos with ridiculously short gearing is why these modern shitbox cars always seem so fast off the line. If it wasn't for those things, Raptors would not seem fast. The problem we have is there is a driveability gap between a more gentle take off and a wheelspinning sideways launch. The difference between ankle flex required to achieve one and ankle flex required to achieve the other is about 0.5°.
    • Yeah I think I'm also with the opposite here. It's 'hard to keep up with traffic' because in the real world I'm accelerating with 15% throttle and they are pinning it. It feels like I'm being an overt dickhead at anything above 15% throttle, so the car sounds like I'm being an overt dickhead to keep up with/get ahead of traffic when I'm really just trying to drive with traffic. There would be no issue 'keeping up with traffic' if we used the same level of throttle input/aggression to drive around. People really do just drive around with their foot nearly pinned in econoboxes.
    • To be fair it's the other way around. 300kw is boring in a modern Golf or BMW. They are so competent / well-engineered / devoid of emotion that you have to go stupid fast to feel anything. Whereas the <300kw RB still makes all the right noises and it feels good to drive. Can pull off at the lights with the turbo whooshing and the blow-off pssshing and feel like the coolest kid on the block. Just don't look to the side where you'll see the bored housewifes in their shitbox Yaris/Corolla/Camry that kept up because you didn't go fast at all
