Shouldnt be too cold in November - unless you are up North, that is.

Tokyo should be hovering around 10 to 15 C

November is one of the best times to visit Japan, as the weather is dry and mild, airfares are low and the colored autumn leaves are spectacular.

A trip out to Kyoto will satisfy like no Autosalon can - Trust me. Even the leaves alone will stun.

Mate, Ignore Akeenan. He has moments where the meds aint workin.

As for Steven and Pete? Meh, i spose you could argue theyve been here long enough but thatd only be making excuses for their assery.

Im not going to take shots at you.

Purely simple. You wont get behind the wheel of the GTR.

Unless youre in Tokyo and happen to be around when im out with a buddy of mine who happens to own one. I may be able to help you out - then again i may not.

November is pretty cold and the events are slim pickings - most happens in summer obviously but a lot also happens later.

You can score the NISMO speed festival - thats on the 30th of November and the GT300 Super GT race is on the weekend of the 8th and 9th.

All these things are happening at Fuji speedway.

Dont forget the Tokyo Auto salon is on in November too

To be blunt, im not sure if youll be that keen to throw yourself at cars while youre here...

Youll be missing so So SO much if that was your only agenda.

There are other things that will leave massive impressions on you long after the TAS has left your mind...

Check the threads.

This section is chok-a-block full of info.

Tokyo Autosalon is in january each year. I think next year around the 14th of jan.

yes nismo festival is in november though.

thanks for posting the link choku dori. sadly as akkenan pointed out the rental period is for between 5th september and 31st of october. ;) d'oh!

also, this could pose a problem 普通自動車運転免許歴20年以上の方

you must have held a drivers licence for at least 20 years (and I assume they mean Japanese licence and I doubt would accept international, or aussie for this particular offer).

add to that from what I can gather you have to apply, then chose a day, then they draw names out of a hat to see who gets it on that particular day (providing you meet all the other criteria). next to impossible for a foreigner.

ok choku dori , i was meaning to write this last night. but had to do some other things. yeah sorry mate its all booked out.

m3gtr - meds aint working eheh , im getting better each and everyday. :)

i think im working too much, ill try not to fly off the handle. (as much)

terry, im confused ...

choku dori as someone as previously mentioned i think youd be better off not looking to hire a car and just enjoy the trains etc. as they take you pretty much where ever you will want to go.

ps: how long have steven and pete been in apan for? surely I must have been here the same if not longer :)

Well, Pete and I got off the plane together back in Jan 2005. Im sure Steve has been here as long if not longer.

Though i hazard a guess youve been here the longest..either you, Justin or Lorrie.

Though Tezzer was here before i was born.

Man those would have been wild times...

Came here first time 98 snowboarding, moved here start 2000, countless tourist visa runs ,then student visa(hell) then insructor/business visa and would move back to oz but too bloody expensive,no kabba kuras, plus the women here are hot and theres no way I you could get away with the type of spading here in oz..you`d be up on all sorts of charges plus ozzie chick would beat the crap outta ya.

You lovable lout.

Whats spading..?

With the AUD on the turps theres no way im moving back any time soon.

So glad im earning yen right now.

Yer...the women are awesome...60 to 70% of them are smashable...

In oz...?

:P

Yeah right...Good One!

I am...but I cant resist tuning ..its so much fun!! I dont play around , just flirt like a demon!!

M3..ya kidding arent ya...spading = tuning chicks..

I have a terrible addiction to kabba kura. Where else can you drink as much as ya want and play with titties for an hour for 5000 yen..Its criminal but so much fun..

I just went back to Oz for just under 3 weeks to show this misso and fark it is so, so expensive now. I need a million in the bank to afford my debauched lifestyle if I went back. Seriously I was shocked how expensive it has become in the last 2 years...

Nah, i seriously didnt know.

Youd think being married to some, means i have to stay at home all the time.

Thats funneh.

I was on a booze cruise off the bay in Tokyo here tonight - 2500 yen a head, all you can drink for 2 hours straight.

Farken oarsome. Met the best girl - lived in Sydney, Japanese chick, around 22, and she had a full blown aussie accent! I was literally stunned and kept coming back to how awesome i thought her accent was...

Hang on...im an aussie as well last time i checked and she passed for the real thing.

5 stars.

Where in Oz can you get an all you can drink booze cruise around what is the equivalent of Sydney harbour for 2 hours at the rate of $25??

;)

they may not lend you the car, but kindly tell me where you can rent an R35 for $350 per day as I'll rent it next time i'm in tokyo, hey if you're there I'll even give you a lift somewhere. ;)

http://www.premium-rent.com/en/cartypes.php

It's not $350 a day, but close enough. I'll take a ride out to Fujikyu Highlands please...

    • Also, I logged some data from the ECU for each session (mostly oil pressures and various temps, but also speed, revs etc, can't believe I forgot accelerator position). The Ecutek data loads nicely to datazap, I got good data from sessions 2, 3 and 4: https://datazap.me/u/duncanhandleyhgeconsultingcomau/250813-wakefield-session-2?log=0&data=7 https://datazap.me/u/duncanhandleyhgeconsultingcomau/250813-wakefield-session-3?log=0&data=6 https://datazap.me/u/duncanhandleyhgeconsultingcomau/250813-wakefield-session-4?log=0&data=6 Each session is cut into 3 files but loaded together, you can change between them in the top left. As the test sessions are mostly about the car, not me, I basically start by checking the oil pressure (good, or at least consistent all day). These have an electrically controlled oil pump which targets 25psi(!) at low load and 50 at high. I'm running a much thicker oil than recommended by nissan (they said 0w20, I'm running 10w40) so its a little higher. The main thing is that it doesn't drop too far, eg in the long left hand fish hook, or under brakes so I know I'm not getting oil surge. Good start. Then Oil and Coolant temp, plus intercooler and intake temps, like this: Keeping in mind ambient was about 5o at session 2, I'd say the oil temp is good. The coolant temp as OK but a big worry for hot days (it was getting to 110 back in Feb when it was 35o) so I need to keep addressing that. The water to air intercooler is working totally backwards where we get 5o air in the intake, squish/warm it in the turbos (unknown temp) then run it through the intercoolers which are say 65o max in this case, then the result is 20o air into the engine......the day was too atypical to draw a conclusion on that I think, in the united states of freedom they do a lot of upsizing the intercooler and heat exchanger cores to get those temps down but they were OK this time. The other interesting (but not concerning) part for me was the turbo speed vs boost graph: I circled an example from the main straight. With the tune boost peaks at around 18psi but it deliberately drops to about 14psi at redline because the turbos are tiny - they choke at high revs and just create more heat than power if you run them hard all the way. But you can also see the turbo speed at the same time; it raises from about 180,000rpm to 210,000rpm which the boost falls....imagine the turbine speed if they held 18psi to redline. The wastegates are electrically controlled so there is a heap of logic about boost target, actual boost, delta etc etc but it all seems to work well
    • hahah when youtube subscribers are faster than my updates here. Yes some vid from the day is up, here:  Note that as with all track day videos it is boring watching after the bloopers at the start.  The off was a genuine surprise to me, I've literally done a thousand laps around the place and I've never had instability there; basically it rolled into oversteer, slipped, gripped and spat me out. On the way off I mowed down one of the instructor's cones and it sat there all day looking at me with accusing cone eyes as I drove past. 1:13:20 was my fastest lap, and it was in the second session, 3rd lap.  It (or me!) got slower throughout the day as it got hotter.
    • It sounds like you want what the Toyota Landcruisers have for their roof racks. Wanna know what you end up with? Rust holes in the roof, and water everywhere...
    • Discovered today that if I select reverse first and take my foot off the brake, then select drive, the drive indicator light works and so does the tiptronic gear indicator.
    • Ok so after much research and talking with knowledgeable people I've got my turbo conversion done and it's all running great other than 1 small issue.  Car has remained auto with the na auto and tcm, I've used a stagea ecu with. NIstune board and everything is great other than my gear selection on the dash. It illuminates park, reverse, neutral, 3rd and 2nd. But nothing drive or what gear your in when you pop it into tiptronic.  I'm sure there is maybe 1 wire in the ecu plug I need to move to rectify this. Does anyone here have any ideas?   Cheers guys
