Boost gauges mounted on top of the dash dangerous when you crash and hit your head on it... turbo timer exposes wirings necessary for thieves to steal your car and it also leaves your car on when you walk off - so it allows easy access for thieves.

UMM interesting

the people at regency didnt even know that i had a turbo timer in the car

so i cant see how it leaves exposed wirings

I have had a tt for a while and never had problems with it

also if you get it all hooked up properly then when the tt kicks in

and you drop the hand brake the tt should cut off which mine does

so good luck trying to get it going

i agree i see more old bombs driven round n cops dont even look but c a nice skyline n bam pulled over i just got of defect n have had many n one of the mechanics there said they get up 2 6 skylines a day!n he said it want b my last n yeah i kno that!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :ninja:

OK so now i know if i try and get my friends in the gov to help i have no support to back me up GREAT. now i know why it will never work!

My friends in Gov said what they need first is a majority to put there hand up/sign a partition(which my lawyer friend has been helping me with) and say yes thats what we want changed, not just me on my own.

I really thought i would of have a big number of people help and make ideas and work together to make this happen.

if you have friends in government, then why dont you do your PETITION the way the rest of the people want to (ie like the ones that wanted the new drag strip etc) and do a PRINTED one and distribute it at every auto parts place etc that you can find around adelaide

/rant

on a side note anyone see the smart car up close? there's 1 at my work with what looks to be gauges on the dash like boost gauge style :ninja: how the hell that get pass safty inspections while they still defect it on the street in other cars

What do they keep defecting you for?

hi guys im fairly new here, shane's the name, but i for one am feeling the brunt of 1 nasty cop from monday! no reason to pull me over want even behind me he was coming other direction at a set of lights which i was turning right at. Looked at my car could only see front end with front mount turned left to where i was turning then waited for me. then procedes to say he has pulled me over because the car sounded to loud?? it must have good ears cause at idle at a busy intersection with trucks. neway cut a long story short did me for 3.2 decibells to loud. straight to regency. so far the bill is looking towards 3 mayb 4gz to get back on the road!

so ne1 that drives around outer habour, port adelaide and wingfield needs to be very careful as this guy and his mate have been defecting all imports. so far i have been able to find 16 in the area since monday.

to add salt to the wound he then tries telling me to take it to 1 place in perticular which makes me think that he may be getting some incentives???

but who knows he's costing me a fortune atm!

hahah join the import owners club of being f**ked over

yeah mate i feel what your feeling atm

i got defected and luckily it hasnt cost me an arm and a leg to get it back to stock

so if you need anything that i got ie stock parts

chuck us a pm as i am going through regency on the 30th of sept

goodl luck with it all mate

so far the bill is looking towards 3 mayb 4gz to get back on the road!

lol any car that is gonna cost 3-4k to get off defect probably deserved to get defected.

i doubt it will cost you that man, unless you have badly bent chassis rails or an unengineerable engine in ur car it shouldnt cost u much, maybe a few bushes and safety issues neatened up, then just find some people that will lend u stock parts to swap over when u go through regency,

OK, Nobody "deserves" to get defected. Much of what we would get defected for is not actually dangerous, but lawamakers would rather make a modification defectable than take the time to consider how dangerous it really is.

I had my skyline 2 months and was defected twice. although it hurt I coughed up the $$$ to make everything street legal (or close to it). TWO THOUSAND dollars later my car has 3 child safety bolts. No turbo timer, it is street legal height, no BOV, and more...

The things I am still defectable for are:

Coilovers (but not too low)

Exhaust

Remote start (if the cops see that it's my own fault)

I don't think we can win this one, I think we'll either make them street legal and boring or run the risk of getting defected. Simple as that. Cops have quotas to make, they see one of us they will just pull us over.

But you'd have to be a sucker to believe that EVERY defect is for a genuine saftey reason, and not due to ignorance on the part of lawmakers or revenue raising.

Some senior citizens sitting in a roopm deciding whether remote start is illegal? What legal ride height should be?

PLEASE!

actually, some cars DO deserve to be defected. we all know what the rules are, but if you choose to slam your car on 22's, have a loud straight htrough exhaust with and atmo BOV, your begging more than Oliver Twist begs for a decent feed.

Well said Damo, you can modify a car in a legal manner, if you choose to make illegal mods then you have no one to blame but yourself.

True. No one to blame but yourself ... but we're still gunna hear about it time and time again from some import owners/members who'd rather sook than make themselves discrete.

    • Sounds like you've got an interesting adventure ahead here with local support if you have trouble! My guess is that, unboosted, you will be OK with a small upgrade like -9. What will happen is that once the stock ECU sees more airflow than it expects it will add a heap of fuel and pull a heap of timing to be safe because it can't understand how it could get that much air without there being an issue. You will see clouds of black smoke and it won't pull hard through the midrange and top end. So, overall it will be a bit frustrating but should be OK. If you are still nervous set the base timing back 2o through the CAS, but it will be even more sluggish everywhere. As said above through...this is not my guarantee your engine won't be blown into a million pieces, leaving you looking for very hard to find parts A better idea is get a computer with logging ASAP, wire in a wide band O2 sensor and a use remote tuner. I've done multiple cars this way and while it is not as good as a specific tune on a dyno they can get it 90% right. I'd suggest if you can afford an R33 GTR these days you can afford an ECU and tune. And if you can't afford that you sure won't be able to afford the rebuild if it goes bad in the meantime,.
    • Yeah it would be nice if someone took the time to put that sort of information together, but there are a lot of variations in looms. I think you are making this way hard for yourself if you just want to get it running....sourcing an SR20 with the right wiring will be a billion times easier than matching the RB loom to an S15 chassis. If you do end up going this way, you just need to trace every wire in the loom with a multimeter, 95% of them will go to a location you can confirm at the ECU.....and then post it up for the next person who needs it
    • Just top it up with water, and keep a general idea of how much you added. It is normal for water to be pushed into and pulled out of the reservoir through the cap, and it should not be more than half full or it will be likely to overflow when hot. Any decent mechanic can do a pressure test of the cooling system to confirm if you have a leak. Keep in mind if it is only leaking a little and when hot it may well evaporate before you see it hit the ground
    • I'd ask the shop what they used and use that. Mixing coolants is sometimes OK, sometimes not, and you have know the details of each coolant to know whether it's a good idea or not.
    • Is it alright to top up with just another green coolant?
