Clutch Rebuilds In Vic For Os Giken Twin Plate Or New Clutch In Vic

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I've already got a general topic about my clutch rebuild or new clutch in the drivetrain:

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Os...ui-t236817.html

And I'm getting some good advice there, but just wanted to know if anyone know's a good place for high quality clutches OR a twin plate rebuild in Melbourne.

Currently I'm planning on giving NPC a call and maybe Jim Berry if I can afford the phone bill :(

But do we have some good places in Melbourne?

I've done a quick call around about getting it fitted, seems to cost about $400 to fit a clutch...

Thanks,

Gareth

Hey mate, I was in the same situation as you. I just went the Jim Berry. Yeh, you might be up for a 30-50min phone call lol, but he is a top bloke to talk to and deal with. It wasnt that long of a wait either. I spoke to B.G.T. in Hawthorn aswell, they were also quite clued up on the situation.

If you can wait and save a lil .. go the jim berry clutch, geenline is great for price but man the waiting time is horrible. Yes Jim does talk alot but its worth the wait. Had my os twin rebuild from him as its unreal, light and eay to use, i had mine built to suit track work more.. so launching is out the window if i want to keep the clutch alive. postage to jim and back is $60 give or take each way and i paid just over 1300 as i have new clutch fork and what ever other bits n pieces jim suggested i should have.

I'm always surprised when people say they've had massive waiting times from greenline. I've never waited more than around 8 days I reckon, inlcuding ordering an OS rebuild kit.

I called NPC and they offered a rebuild price below $800 so that's sounding very reasonable if I was quoted the correct price.

Next problem is finding someone who doesn't mind waiting a week for my clutch to get rebuilt....I might give RE Customs a call and see what they think, but the car will be sitting for a while :)

  • 4 weeks later...

Just FYI for anyone reading, the clutch actually ended up been a Nismo twin-plate, the model before the super coppermix.

And the transfer case was the problem with the slipping, there was nearly 2mm left on the clutch itself.

The clutch is getting rebuilt and I've been offered a transfer case (cheap) and one from the workshop, I've gone with the one from the workshop because I know its in good working condition :D

    • I've looked up the parts number (41011AL501). It's around $700 OEM. Usually our Infiniti G35 here in Canada have interchangeable parts with my Stagea but the parts number are not the same. I have looked around and it seems the JDM 2005 V35 Skyline (which is the same as our G35) has the same caliper but I cannot confirm. And I can't find a repair kit. The inner brake pads drags on the rotor, seems to be rusty piston. Thanks for the info by the way
    • This coupled with 6-9 speed autos with ridiculously short gearing is why these modern shitbox cars always seem so fast off the line. If it wasn't for those things, Raptors would not seem fast. The problem we have is there is a driveability gap between a more gentle take off and a wheelspinning sideways launch. The difference between ankle flex required to achieve one and ankle flex required to achieve the other is about 0.5°.
    • Yeah I think I'm also with the opposite here. It's 'hard to keep up with traffic' because in the real world I'm accelerating with 15% throttle and they are pinning it. It feels like I'm being an overt dickhead at anything above 15% throttle, so the car sounds like I'm being an overt dickhead to keep up with/get ahead of traffic when I'm really just trying to drive with traffic. There would be no issue 'keeping up with traffic' if we used the same level of throttle input/aggression to drive around. People really do just drive around with their foot nearly pinned in econoboxes.
    • To be fair it's the other way around. 300kw is boring in a modern Golf or BMW. They are so competent / well-engineered / devoid of emotion that you have to go stupid fast to feel anything. Whereas the <300kw RB still makes all the right noises and it feels good to drive. Can pull off at the lights with the turbo whooshing and the blow-off pssshing and feel like the coolest kid on the block. Just don't look to the side where you'll see the bored housewifes in their shitbox Yaris/Corolla/Camry that kept up because you didn't go fast at all
    • 300kW is so boring in a Skyline, you'll get spanked by someone's mum's Golf with Alibaba pipes, and an email tune.
