3 hours is a hell of a time estimate for changing a set of coil packs - 3 hours! It might take that long if you did the whole job with your tongue.

About 20mins if that.

$100?! to change coilpacks jeez some mechanic

splitfire coilpacks sit ontop of your sparkplugs.

Just take off the cover in the middle of your engine bay, pull out the black coilpacks and replace with the new blue ones.

Only issue is just moving the cross-over pipe but thats no trouble at all

This is where i got the 3hr estimate, but i have a feeling that part where hes holding the Smirnoff may have impacted the time taken!

if I can do it with my shagged knees, 2m tall bending over bonnet, then anyone can

do it yourself, beer and cone break, and it'll be sweet

worth putting on too, nice product the Splitfires

It is a good 1 and half hours with 34's as i have already had to do it twice.

It is easy, just take yourtime and you will be fine.

Cross over pipe and everything has to come off you will see. A job worth doing but a pain in the behind. lol

The cross-over pipe does add a few extra minutes - my original 20min estimate didn't account for the cross-over pipe as I no longer have to deal with one. Just one of the bonuses of a forward facing plenum. However, I still think removing the coil packs and replacing them is a simple 20-30min job.

If I had never done it before and was using this thread for assistance, it would probably take me an extra 5mins.... spent watching rad32's avatar.

hope ur splitfires r good mate!! ENJOY!!! :P

was a pleasure helping u out and great bloke!

Big up to u mate,

thanx again for not only a speedy & efficient job but also meeting one of many top South Aussies from the forum :P

How much did you pay for your Spit Fires, and where from?

I'll be after a set soon, mine are starting to breakdown and i cbf trying to patch them up.

Access Autoworx in the trader section, think it was $520 delivered...wont find it cheaper trust me!

EDIT- Due to crappy yen & markets they're now $615, boy im glad i bought them 2weeks ago :D

Edited by YDUTRY4

yep and last night i sent him a pm saying i want some for $520 before he raised the price. (must of changed it as soon as i said i want them) then now he didnt reply back to my pm and has changed the price.

    • Depending on how long the car sat it is very possible for injectors to be stuck open or closed, I'd get them cleaned and flow tested. Other than that, obviously when the loom changes and the car doesn't start any more....the loom is suspect so some tracing / comparing may be required
    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
