Mayhaps jst the ziptie at either end and it has blown off/come loose, or as stated above youve lost presure through a split/break. As it is zero you likely will not hear it. Just replace the whole line, be done with it.

Hey Steve, how ya doing? long time no see....

Agree with all of the above.... Is the gauge still moving like normal, only to read 0 at full boost? If so, then it does sound like you have a split in the line. If you have an aftermarket boost gauge, then just disconnect the standard gauge as you'll probably almost never use. However, if you don't have an aftermarket gauge, then you'll need to find the leak and repair it. Even though the standard gauge isn't the best for an accurate reading of pressure, it is still however a good indication that the turbo is making boost.

Either way, the problem should be dealt with, as even a small boost leak can upset the ECU and other sensors which in turn will affect the way that your car generally runs. The other thing to remember is that over time, the split in the line will only get bigger, therefore becoming a bigger problem....

Not to bad Luke, yourself? I've been really busy and my car is still stock but things should slowly start happening.

My boost gauge stays on 0 all the time when driving. Where exactly should I be looking for this leak???? There is a little black hose about 5 mil across which connects to the rear of the plenum that has cracked before but seems fine now.......

Hey Steve,

If you remember where I live you can bring it to my place this weekend and I'll have a good look at it for you, I have heaps of vaccum hose that we can use if you need it.

Cheers mate :D

Mick

Hey Mick!

Lol I have no idea and I'll be in Sydney till sunday. I may have to take up your offer next weekend if I can't find the problem.....

If it's an issue with the cluster itself i've had dealings with Premier Instruments in Dickson. Top service and pretty good prices; didn't charge me a cent to look at a stuffed tacho.

If you need a replacement though i've got a stock tacho+boost guage. Tacho is stuffed but the boost guage works, may be able to swap them round? PM me if you end up needing one.

I fixed it! The line running from the back of the plenum was snapped off at one end and the other had a huge split. I put it all back together and it works fine  I think ill need a new hose though.

    • I don't. I mean, mine's not a GTR, but it is a 32 with a lot of GTR stuff on it. But regardless, I typically buy from local suppliers. Getting stuff from Japan is seldom worth the pain. Buying from RHDJapan usually ends up in the final total of your basket being about double what you thought it would be, after all the bullshit fees and such are added on.
    • The hydrocarbon component of E10 can be shittier, and is in fact, shittier, than that used in normal 91RON fuel. That's because the octane boost provided by the ethanol allows them to use stuff that doesn't make the grade without the help. The 1c/L saving typically available on E10 is going to be massively overridden by the increased consumption caused by the ethanol and the crappier HC (ie the HCs will be less dense, meaning that there will definitely be less energy per unit volume than for more dense HCs). That is one of the reasons why P98 will return better fuel consumption than 91 does, even with the ignition timing completely fixed. There is more energy per unit volume because the HCs used in 98 are higher density than in the lawnmower fuel.
    • No, I'd suggest that that is the checklist for pneumatic/hydraulic adjustable systems. I would say, based on my years of reading and complying with Australian Standards and similar regulations, that the narrow interpretation of Clause 3.2 b would be the preferred/expected/intended one, by the author, and those using the standard. Wishful thinking need not apply.
    • Yes they do. For some maybe. But for those used the most by abusers, ie Skylines, the numbers are known. The stock eyebrow height for R32/3 Skylines is about 365/375mm or thereabouts. The minimum such heights are recorded in adjacent columns in the database.
    • Hmmm, interesting. Makes me wonder whether there is bias as well. It's the cheapest fuel, so it is used for all kinds of ill-maintained shitboxes which are bound to have issues regardless. Nicer cars tend to require higher octane rated fuel and can't use it anyway. FWIW, the official NSW E10 facts page is decent.
