Impressive results on a mainline dyno there Lee, you should see 265-270 on a DD machine.

Im going back to the drawing board, Wastegate was WIDE open but still pumping close to 20+psi. So ive decided to Go external Gate modded onto my DMAX manifold so i can regulate boost alot better. I could just wack on a .82 rear with a larger internal gate but i want to retain as much response as i can get my hands on so i'm keeping the .63 with looked fairly responsive and going external gate.

Much appreciated to Martin and Mark for the help. Top Blokes.

EDIT: martin seemed to love my setup, i was a bit unsure about the size of the bastard. :D

Cheers Ryan Last time there was only 4kw difference on Aussies DD but either way i'm happy with the power to weight. I must have just missed you today i left at 2.30pm. I'm sure you will get your beast sorted in no time did you run it up on the Dyno?

so what power did u end up making Ryan???

external gate FTW!!!!

ARE U GONNER HAVE A SCREAMER OR PLUMB IT BACK??

Before we could even do any sort of power run i wanted him to check what boost it was running because of previous experience with turbo's like this and wastegates etc, Before the turbo went on i got the wastegate machined out to its limit and i made the dump pipe to clear the massive flap but wasn't enough. Definetly going External gate, With a screamer eventually plumbed back. hehe

I made a custom Bell mouth from scratch, Very free flowing. Ahh well... Just annoyed there is a bit of a delay. I tell ya what, It sounded f*kn awesome on the dyno. Will be an animal once its finished. Was great just driving the car again after 6 weeks.

this subject is pretty interesting.

I swapped the 34 GTR bellmouth style dumps for a pair of short splits (using the -5's) and found that occasionally she'd creep up to 18 or 19psi..........not sure if it's an obstruction issue with the gate.

I was considering going back to the 34 GTR bellmouths with the new setup that's just about to go on.

Gary Cook (Sydney Kid) was telling me not to waste my time with short splits & to stick with a decent bellmouth unless I plan on using the long split style like the Trust setup (approx 400mm splits)..........AM Performance can make a similar setup as the Trust's.

Thoughts guys??

Definetly an interesting subject pete, i wish my camera worked at the moment, i'd take some photo's of the dump pipe i made for this turbo, Very wide, very smooth blend, fairly large dump pipe. Took a couple of hours of heating and bending to get it right. Im really not a fan of the splits unless it had a really really good blend. Usually alot of those split dump pipes have somewhat of a wall to hit before it goes through a tiny pipe.

Heslo, definetly sounded like very very strong power. Curve was awesome. I'll write back to your PM in a tic mate.

yeah maybe the little splits are good for small diameter gates but I think they tend to fail on bigger gates hence why I'm thinking bellmouth more & more.

Is it true the 34 GTR dumps are bigger than the 32 & 33's?

Cheers Ryan!

Pete, I'll be going the long split style. Seen AM Performance work close up and spoken to Andrew and he does some great work and knows his shit. Pretty cheap too. But as always the end decision comes up to you :P

A little OT but.... :P

Pete usually the problem with the splits is the area behind the gate. When the flap opens it tends to block part of the opening which tends to result in slightly more boost or worse case creep.

Shaun was telling me he's had a play with splits/bell mouths on the dyno and didn't notice any difference (power etc) between the two (providing boost is kept constant). The only time the split was beneficial is when the exhaust is marginal for the power i.e 3" for 300rwkw+ and you run a screamer.

Ryan.. Here's my dump. Can be improved upon but can't complain for under $100.

Would prefer a 70ish or 45degree bend with the wastegate section a little longer and merging smootly in to the pipe. Maybe the sharpish push in to the stream of the turbine gas is creating a little back pressure in front of the turbine wheel allowing greater flow for the wastegate, hence boost drop to ~2psi above the actuators rating.

Mine is very simular Joel. That's impressive tho, I'm sure the black paint isn't there anymore tho hehe.

agree with your thoughts on flow and the flap not opening 100 percent blocking alot of the flow into the split pipe.

Home made. ;)

The black paint is actually still there..... On the outside. :D

haha, just razzing ya.........looks like a very good effort.......and welds don't have to be pretty, just have good penetration (well that's what my Dad says, he's a boilermaker)

i love custom items!!! i have a AWSOME customer x-member.... added value to my car!

You like that do ya hehe.

That's right, you could have the prettiest welds but if there's no penetration then its completely useless.

    • HFM BM57 has a "bad" knee point, IIRC. It's not the same thing as the later R chassis MC.
    • The ATTESSA is functionally identical to R34; there were a bunch of JDM models that continued ATTESSA including Fuga/Q70, Skyline/Q50, Cima etc as an option. All with Auto only and I think mostly for snow regions. AFAIK there were no AWD VR30DDTT sold in Australia - it is on my to do list to check regs for racing a LHD car in Targa/ATR/AASA/CAMS events because if I can get the auto to work it would be interesting to run a 4wd car The Ecuteck TCM tuning is the same model as their ECU tuning, they already have it for R35 and Dose's favourite, BMW. You buy "points" to allow your computer to be tuned, buy either a bluetooth (phone app) or bluetooth+USB+Key (phone and PC) dongle, and pay for a tune that will be locked to your tuner ( ). You can also access the tuning software yourself but 1. it is mega expensive and 2. these computers have a billion parameters that intersect, so how could you ever spend enough time on it to get a decent result.
    • Or, is it a case of what it is like owning an R series Skyline? NFI what the previous owner has done or fiddled with... Ha ha ha After reading through this thread, I went on a bit of a research about the Q50/Q60. Now I'm quite intrigued by them! Is the AWD in them more like a WRX where it's always AWD, or is it more like the ATTESSA in the GTRs? By the sound of this TCU tuning, this sounds like a case of someone has made some real software for it, and you just need the right piece of hardware, and then you license that specific vehicle/TCU. Or is this a case of the software will be really expensive so only a few tuners have it, and you still have to pay a license per vehicle?
    • By popular demand.. it was a coil. Got my hands on 1 new OEM coil, replaced with the one that made the less noise difference when I unplugged it while the car was running and started the car up. No stutter and the engine light was gone. I guess I’ll buy the other 5 they have lol
    • No, code 21 is very straightforward. It can only be the things described in that diagnostic flow. In fact it has no way of knowing that the spark plug resistance is out of spec.
