I dont want to lose my pod cause to me its not a turbo unless i dont have that sucking noise and flutter.

You can still hear suction and flutter through a high flow panel filter. The intercooler does amplify these sounds. Sure, these won't be as loud as they would be with a pod but they do get noticeably louder after you install that cooler...

thanks everyone for your opinion i guess ill go wit hiding my frount mount and try with a normal air box see how it sounds if good enough ill keep it if not go wit the pod.

^ Good Job

Although it still looks as if your hiding somthing :)

then again, a cop doesnt have the right to touch anything in your engine bay so technically cant prove if there is a pod under there..

well I better not..

since I'm already at 60% warning due to someone elses power trip issues.

tough break lol.... i nearly got a warning because some fool took what i said the wrong way TWICE, then i got pissed off and replied for everyone to see after night shift at 1am in the morning lol....

I made an airbox for mine, Just outa sheet metal, then finished with crinkle coat so it looked stockish, then clark rubber 'pinch weld' for edge protection. :)

say i had the seet up that duke has,,,,, the box looks legit but i have a fmic thats not engineered,,,, copper pulls me over and defets me for the fmic,,,,, when i take it to get inspected and get the defect removed could they (rta i supose, whoever checks the defected car) then keep the defect notice on because of something that the cop mised,,,,, like the pod or bald tyres or another defectable item????

Haha, yeah, :)

Here in WA your allowed pods but they have to be secure, mine is loose as...

Iv'e got something to secure it with but haven't gotten around to it.

but it's outa sight, outa mind from the police atm, lol

Hmmm, why exactly do you want to keep the pod filter?

I see it as:

Performance? Without CAI it's not so great.

Legal? Well no, prepare for a defect in most states if you've got the intercooler as well.

As per previous answers you could use the stock airbox which will hide it, but you've still got a fair chance of getting defected for it, so it's your choice if you want to play it safe or not.

Getting a black intercooler may help too, but its not exactly foolproof :P

So obviously you dont want the pod for power, the set up your planning to go with will lose you power, the jjr stealth intercooler set up uses the standard ic pipe holes, normally thats where a pod will draw its cold air from, with those blocked all your engine is ingesting is hot air from the engine bay.

He doesn't have to touch anything, thats not the issue.

The officer simply sends you to the EPA and then you'll have to prove to them whats inside it.

keep your stock airbox handy in the shed, lol :D

Just outa curiosity:

Do the cops seriously do that in Vic?

Also, why is it an EPA issue over there?

Over here it's the DPI that deals with you and they only right a list of your defects and tell you to fix them or permit them. It's only if they catch you gutting your cat that they'll get narky but you'd have to really piss them off for them to actually do the paper work to fine you, haha

Yeh they are that bad man, its hopeless.

The EPA is Aust wide, yet the laws they enact upon are only drawn up by our lovely local Gov't. The laws are from 1992, and so out of touch with current cars, mods, emissions and so on that its not funny...

But alas, the police dont care, they dont get paid to :)

EPA is worse than whatever your road worthy body is. I believe you guys can get engineers papers for each mod.

Over here its two tier.

EPA = emissions and anything that might affect them (no matter how ridiculous, like a pod/IC, doesnt alter emissions dick all, but its illegal)

VicRoads/Engineers = modifications/mechanical and so on. Brakes/suspension/engine conversions - that kinda stuff

somebody answer this question who has had experience or knows the law in nsw for it?????

True, I guess you have the time to put stock box back on before epa test, but theres still the hassle of going to get EPA check etc etc.

Pods fine here in QLD as long as its secured down, not flapping about. Mate of mine is getting his car looked over has front mount, high mount turbo, pod, waste gate. Just has stock suspension put in wheels with good tread (borrowed my 9.5 rears and 9 fronts. ) and they let him through fine. Only hold up is that he doesnt have a engine number lol.

You will only have to change it if they tell you to but as long as its secure then it should be fine.

What do you guys think if I get that stealth just jap cooler paint it blak and put blak mesh in the front bar in the opening. I rekon that would be prety hard to see especialy at night and also considering the cooler uses the stock pipes. I dont want to lose my pod cause to me its not a turbo unless i dont have that sucking noise and flutter. what u guys think?

1. Record the sucking noise and the flutter.

2. Get rid of the pod and fit the original airbox and snorkel with a high flow panel filter.

3. Play the sucking noise and flutter through your stereo.

Bit rough don't you think?? :)

    • Initially I thought having a pair of Recaro seats would be a big bonus, it turns out these do get a little uncomfortable on long journeys (my fault, not the seat). I had a look through the GSM Performance website at reclining seats and booked an appointment to visit their show room. I got the Recaro Sportster CS for the R34 from here, was very happy with the service received so of course a re-visit was in order. Unfortunately the two Corbeau seats I had chosen aren't on display but they had 4 other options available. Two seats dug into my back, one dug into my legs and the other was perfect. I also found out that Recaro seats use a larger bolt pattern so some adaption was required. Luckily GSM offer some universal adaptors that should solve this problem. I searched the interwebs for price comparisons and Corbeau themselves were the cheapest at £300 cheaper (for the pair). I asked GSM if they could price match, unfortunately they couldn't. I later received an email saying Corbeau would honour them the same discount, but the purchase was already made. I did however order the brackets from GSM, both arrived on the same day. I started with the passenger side seat, knowing this was going to be a little trial and error. There are 3 mounting holes at the front and 2 at the rear on these JURAN Racing seat rails.  With the adaptor brackets mounted, the allen cap bolts started to push into the seat, NOT GOOD!  The rear mounting holes lined up but there were issues at the front. The holes were 1/2 hole out, so the brackets got a tickle with the drill to modify the holes. The supplied bolts weren't going to be long enough and a spacer was needed to stop the adaptor bars from bending. A local fasteners company supplied be with some nylon spacers and longer bolts (M8x30, although these will be replaced with 35mm long shortly) A before and after I pre-drilled the front bracket before making a start on the driver's seat to save some time. And in no time at all that was in the car too. The all black seats have transformed the interior and these are MUCH more comfortable. The only downside with the new Corbeau seats is I sit a little higher, but I'll happily accept that over discomfort. The Youtube video can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPyttKPktXA
    • All 3 I guess. The car came with the JASI Aero 4 door Type R Full Kit unpainted so this was one thing at the top of my list to complete then I noticed there were body panels parts for this kit so i picked them up along with some black mesh to fill in the front bumper and front side air vents. car is at a paint and body shop atm completing this work. Next I will be addressing the internal bells and whistles, great summer project I can do with the kids.  full interior removal - ,boys car sound deadening - pads and spray ,boys stereo, sound, lighting - Big 3, GTT or bigger alternator ,kids head lining - dye black add star lighting mod ,daughter. That's it for the next 5-6 months. I have some motor maintenance  work i have to plan out. oil filter relocation, gaskets, mounts. beyond that, mind is starting to turn over if i can use a DET intake plenum, block off turbo ports & pipe in a air intake.
    • roller coaster of a ride.
